Mitch, the easiest way to check a straightedge is to use it to draw a full length "straight" line, then rotate it 180 degrees and draw another line over the first, in a similar manner to checking a square. Any deviation from straight will show up when the two lines do not exactly overlap.

+Tom Baker You're quite right Tom, and that's a really quick check you can make. It's the level of precision required which will determine the best method - Drawing a line, knifing a line, feeler gauge, light gap. Cheers, Mitch

+Poe You are clearly a connoisseur of woodworking video ;-)
I know that many are put off even starting a RUclips video that is over ten minutes in length, but hopefully those that find this one interesting might seek out the originals to get the full blown experience. Cheers, Mitch

I've really enjoyed all your video's. They have all helped me especially the plane restoration video. I now have four planes that work very well, a delight to use. My latest plane a Stanley Bailey No7 and bull nose plane both bargains. If I want to know something I check to see if you have covered it. Busily building a split to Roubo!

+Mike Biggs Thanks Mike, I do remember you being one of the early subscribers. I'm glad you're achieving tool success - it makes such a difference to the experience. Whenever you find I haven't covered something, send me a message and I'll add it to my list!

I have seen the originals and didn't find them boring. But I suppose younger generations are used to fast cut and entertaining shows. I really enjoy taking time to dig deep into things. Of course if you can cut a video shorter without loosing any information, then it is good practise to do so.
