Adam Savage's Airplane Cockpit Prop for MythBusters!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 фев 2025
- Adam shares one of the many props he loved building for MythBusters--a speed build of an airplane cockpit that exemplifies the joy of a quick and dirty build. It comes from the episode where Adam and Jamie tested the different plane boarding strategies to find the most efficient boarding process, which you can watch at: • What's the Best Plane ... Special appearance from Adam's dog Maggie!

Who’s your furry shop assistant Adam?
new zealand is in level one and have no cases at all
just ask weta to tell you more
I actually just rewatched the final season today, the reunion episode specifically. Do you ever watch any on the old episodes and reminisce? Then I rewatched the first episode. I had forgotten about your short hair and earring.
End violence, end labels.
All lives matter.
Did you study the fastest way to DE-board a plane? I've always wished that they would let anyone with an aisle seat who does NOT have anything in an overhead compartment (and the person(s) next to them if they don't either) to zip right off the plane before anyone else is allowed to stand. Would be difficult to enforce, though.
The last scene is just pure joy. Thanks Adam for being yourself.
fucking love adam
Cropdusting 🤣
Both Adam and all of the "passengers" seemed to enjoy that immensely.
❤️❤️❤️💪
"I made a spaceship in my parents' guest room closet."
And they said, "Adam, you're 52 years old. Please go home."
That's what I like about this channel, telling everyone to keep appreciating what you've done (created) in the past, even when it's not the best of the best, but it can be something that brings back good memories or something that brought you where you are right now and still relates to you to day but probably in a different way than it was back than.
The drawing on the panels look just about the way 'Ed, Edd and Eddie" is drawn.
I can almost see all the lines wiggle a little bit. =)
Yes! Or Calvin and Hobbes,
@@josephbarrett6528 And Dr Katz
I always giggle uncontrollably watching that "turbulence" scene 😂 So glad you threw that in at the end!
"Always"? How often do you watch that?
6:38 "Im gonna keep this forever" - Adam whenever he sees literally anything
Just had a random thought. Adam is going to be the most awesome grandpa ever!
He will spoil the kid silly. But he will also teach the kid tons of common sense.
5.5 years? It feels like 100 years since mythbusters was on TV. :(
Buy the DVDs. Or try Hulu. Is it still on Hulu?
Koloth Yes, it is.
Omg the one min clip at the end was amazing!
That was great. You could actually see the years peel away and you became your 12 year old self right in front of our eyes. Very touching. And don't ever worry about your dog photo bombing your videos. Knowing that your dog loves you lets us all know that you're the good guy we all thought you to be. And she's adorable.
Adam throughout the years you and jamie have inspired me to show my innerself and to build so much and now my own success is to put my hand to anything and to not be afraid to try at least one new thing a week..thankyou
It has been really fun to see a celebrity you admire be them self, enjoy there company and look forward to the seeing them again. Adam, thank you for continuing to share who you are! Was so excited to see you create a platform for all of us here on RUclips!! Thank you!
What a wonderful example of the pure childlike joy in creating something which likely opened a door to further exploration. Thank you for sharing your time with us.
This was one of my favorite episodes, simply because it was about the airlines. Adam, if you ever want to tool around in another simulator, come on over! I even told Fon that if he needs a cockpit for a shoot, I am always available! Love the prop, and how much fun you had shooting that episode! Blue Skies!
It takes a lot of experience and skills to know what level of simplification is needed to produce an ultra fast project.
You build my childhood and expanded my possibilites with your immense charisma, knowledge and this one of a kind Adam-Savage-style. Cannot express my gratitude, thank you so so much, wish you all the best!
It reminds me of LEGO control panels.
Adam mentioned that his favorite pieces from his childhood LEGO building were the printed control panel 2x2 slopes, so it's not surprising that the aesthetic is similar.
Man that clip at the end is incredible. You can tell Adam is just loving that moment.
Mythbusters was the best thing on TV for a long time. It was like being in science class at school, but you liked the teachers and the lessons. I really wished HD was around for that first cement truck explosion. That was epic.
Def need to do more of these. Even if u don’t plan on displaying the prop/build. It’d still be really interesting to see all of the old mythbusters stuff. U could go into a little detail of how it was built and the thought process behind it.
Love the channel. As a fledgling maker I’ve learned a ton watching ur vids. Thanks!
That last scene was incredible. You look so happy. Like an adult finally doing what 10 year old them always wanted to do. Playing plane pilot with hundreds of people.
Definitely a reason you're one of my heroes. Super humble and still finding joy in the little things throughout the years.
I’ve come back to this video and watched that last clip so many times this year. It’s a perfect little pick me up for a year like 2020
17k hrs in commercial cockpit. Retired off of 767. This segment is a smile-good. We used to have great times in the cockpit, up till the mid 90s. Oddly, once they started boarding from mid-plane, it was a detractor for us. We could no lounger do the meet/say goodbye easily. By the early 2000's the job got to be a drag.
Thanks, Adam.
Final note (from the epilogue of the video): I'm not sure I want to be on an airliner where the pilot is in an ejector seat!
Probably the reason they aren't used and not the cost
@@TheNewton That and you'd need to redesign airliner cockpits pretty significantly. Last thing you want is an ejector seat in a cockpit with a fixed roof.
@@jasoncoates1835 some military helicopters have downwards ejector seats
@@TheAechBomb Ha! I guess the second to last thing you'd want is to eject upwards from a helicopter...
@@jasoncoates1835 Oh, those do exist, see for instance this test of a Ka-52 ejection system: ruclips.net/video/H9Qt5CCVqP8/видео.html Those helicopters have their rotor blades attached with explosive bolts or frangible nuts, and they are detached just before the ejection seat fires. Probably still scary as hell, but then, probably any ejection is...
I loved the Mythbusters efficiency episodes that came later in the runs. For the last few years, there has been a major debate raging about my county here putting in a roundabout, and to this day, I still seek out the Mythbusters episode that demonstrates the benefits of a roundabout over a four-way stop.
They're much more efficient, but if they get overloaded they can gridlock (terrible use of that word)
You must follow the rules, don't enter unless you're exit is clear and give way to the right (left in your case)
I can see how it'd be terrifying for Americans though.
Is your roundabout light controlled?
Also have you seen the magic roundabout in, er, Bristol I think it's in?
Season 12 episode 14
They didn't even test Archer & Cermak & Princeton, or Columbus & 87th & Pulaski & SW Highway in Chicago, maybe those are the 2 most efficient intersections
They took them all out in upstate NY about 20 years ago. Now they're putting some back in the oddest places, and there are several minor accidents per day. They even put 2 on a route with a 55 mph speed limit. The 18 wheelers can't turn that tight, and they have to let the trailer roll over the raised center.
I’m so thankful that I got to volunteer on that and it also made me smile immensely seeing that cockpit.
Just started watching myth busters over from season one one of my favorite shows of all time grew up watching you and now I get to continue watching you on RUclips I love it
not all episodes are worth rewatching though. Especially the segments with Kari and stuff.
Love the joy of simple things. As he describes how he use to make things like this as a kid I instantly recall the times I made a plane myself from my bunk bed with a stereo as the control board and a pedastal fan of course as the prop. A kid with a dream.
Great story glad to see your still making content after all these years I used to watch the myth busters all the time.
Mythbusters ft Maggie in a guest appearance! ♥️
Great episode and a great build. I know what you mean about "12-yr-old- self". My cousin and I were close and from ages 10 to 12, we built stuff in his basement. His dad has these ladder/trellises and we would use as the the basis of: Spaceship, airplane, submarine, big rig. And we would make controls out of cardboard, calculators, and general stuff. They all were filled in with our imaginations and it was awesome. Play that kids today don't get.
Oh and for the record, every "play" of each build ended in a "crash" -- that we somehow survived and then we'd make the next build.
Keep these videos coming -- stay safe and healthy.
Adam. You are the most wholesome human being i have ever seen. I have never met you in person but i have met you in a dream. It was best cup of coffee with the most wholesome company i ever had. I will remember that dream as silly it was. Try to keep busy in shop and try not to get injured too much.
Good stuff,Adam. I so remember that episode. One of my favorites since I love a/c's and used to work around them. Thanks for the heads-up on "crop dusting" ! Now go feed Maggie. lol
I love how happy you are, you are a real amazing role model! I'll watch more of what you do!
Pupper!!!!!!
I love that boarding time experiment! Kinda exemplify of the law of the Universe where what seemingly is random is usually the most efficient.
I really LOVED IT, Adam made a Time Travel Machine (the cockpit), all my life I was convinced that it was impossible to travel through the time... but Adam showed me that it is possible! It is possible to connect the present to the past, and he created this device. A magic device. Congrats, you are a great myth Adam!
adam savage seems like such a cool guy to work with, he consistently has only good things to say about people and projects hes worked one and has such passion for his work. what a cool guy, I'd love to sit down with him and talk some day.
when Maggie jumped on his lap i thought I was seeing double - dogs and owners looking alike “confirmed”
Hope she got a little treat on top for having had to wait a bit.
I suppose groomers are closed right now also.
I look forward to their food blogger collab channel, Maggie Savage's Tasted.
I’m still hoping Mythbusters will be back. Man I loved that show. Adams enthousiasm is sooo fun to watch.
As good as MB was sometimes things need to end so that new growth can take place. I'm enjoying Tested as much or more because it's just a whole lot more personal and relaxed.
So cool. I must have missed that episode way back then. I will check it out now.
Love Mythbusters and so cool to see fun speed builds like this! Also, really enjoyed the history and story behind this piece.
The child-like delight of creating something simple but full of so much meaning, both abstract and personal, is the essence of making
I work at GE Aviation, it's completely true that random seat assignment is best. That's why Southwest generally has less expensive tickets as they do random seat assignment, the quicker they can board the more turnover they can get and the more flights they can fit into a day. which results in more revenue... loved the episode I remember watching it as a kid and honestly is what pushed me into Operations Finance.
Adam please never ever stop being you! You are one of the best humans on this blue ball we all live on :)
Still one of the joys of my life that I got to participate in this episode
So much fun, such great memories from your show! Remember that Frank Abagnale (Catch Me If You Can) managed to fool lots of people pretending to be a pilot. Of course we were all much less sophisticated back in the 60's!
And that is why we create: for the joy it brings to ourselves and others. Stay joyful and keep creating!
I flew Southwest for the first time, and they have an ordered boarding process, but you pick your own seating and I actually really liked that. The only people who really don't are the people who are at the end of the boarding line or the people that show up late... then you have those people who sit right next to you even though there is still plenty or seats elsewhere that they could have chosen
Dear Adam & Jamie, you probably wont notice this comment but if you do, I want you to know that I grew up watching Mythbusters all my life and your show is what sparked my interest in mechanical engineering and design. I have now been accepted to all three colleges ive applied to and am persuing a masters in mechanical engineering and design. Thank you. Your show genuinely changed my life.
Loved this and the display, but what I remember as being the best and fastest way to load a plane with passengers (and cargo) is from the back to the front, which makes perfect sense since no-one has to wait for someone to sit down or store their carry-on bags.
I was a volunteer on that Myth. It was so much fun. Thank you for sharing this.
Love the end sequence!!!
Hands-down, this was my favorite MythBusters episode, just from the setup and experimental design alone.
Lovely! Nice. Show and tell about Mythbusters is always good stuff.
This reminds me of the "set" builders on video game motion capture shoots. If a day seems speedy, these particular set builders create tangible sets out of plywood and 2x4s in less than an hour so scenes can continue to be shot throughout the day. Not only that they have to meet certain dimensions based on not real life objects and spaces created in a computer, so when actors touch things like a hand rail in a scene it lines up with the 3D models in the game. They are a wonder to witness at work. And the results often end up similar to this build, and then the actors get to actually play make believe in the scene.
I remember that episode. Thanks for showing your Airplane Cockpit Prop from MythBusters , Adam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That last bit is the reason why I love Adam savage he will always be funny.
Adam, you are very conscious and in touch with your feelings. Great video!
Those last few seconds are amazing
I'm an aerospace student so the first thing I noticed on the cockpit was the absence of a six-pack (the six main dials that almost every plane has), but for the amount of time you spent on it it still looks really nice. With the amount of research you guys would do on mythbusters, I'm sure you would have made the panels much more accurate if you absolutely had/wanted to.
The crop dusting had me rolling 😂💨
Ditto
I loved the final sequence!
That last scene made my day!
When my boy was at cockpit age I made something this with him and one never forgets. No two cockpits are the same and I love them all.
Hey Adam,
Can't beleve it's been 5 years. I miss Mythbusters so much. I went to the Liberty science enter in New Jersey and saw the Porsche that you reversed the body on. They also had the pull the table cloth from under the china.😁 I remembered how to do it, I was there for about an hour memorizing people how I could do it again and again. Why saids you cant learn anything from TV especially from two insa e people 😁😁. Thanks for the memories.
The crossbow build was one of my favs
That is one of my favorite episodes of mythbusters ever!!!
Finally i've been waiting for a closeup of this
Finally
Damn I must have missed that episode!. Very funny Adam, thanks for the story and the surprise laughs at the end. Reminds me of things I've built over the years that I've lost track of and wish I still had. I built a model of Mariner IV back in the 70's for a school project that I forgot to take a photo of. Balsa, some custom blue/black/purple paint and a magic marker for the fine lines and I had a set of pretty convincing solar panels.
Still watching the reruns!!! Thx
Thank you for being you, an inspiration on so many levels!!
Adam never change! Greetings from a fan from germany.
Dear Adam savage. I don't know if you will ever see this comment but if you do i want to let you know how much i love you and mythbusters. This show and tell episode made my day and made me cry that mythbusters is not on air no more. Just reruns . Thank you Adam savage for staying by our sides these last 5 1/2 year later of mythbusters being canceled. 😊😊🥰🥰😥😥😥🤘👍🤣🤣
It is truly a marvelous build. Verily this is the epitome of child-like wonder! Fantastic!
Awesome!!! I totally get it, been building cockpit sim's since I was a kid.
I’m so glad I stayed for that last scene
Very Tom Sachs-esque! I love it!
Definitely reminded me of a Jean Dubuffet sculpture.
Still have not seen all the Myth Busters but those I've watched are great!
oh man when all of this is over we need a small get together of adam and jamie for a show and tell of their most treasured time / item on the show i think it would be fun.
Thank you for posting again. I want to ride my onewheel, but the kids are playing in the streets. They always win!
the last clip at the end was pure enjoyment
Just joined your channel as this just pop up on my iPad loved mythbusters so will enjoy watch you
i build a cockpit myself once, it was 2 feet deep with 12 roosters...
As a former waiter (20 yrs) I can tell you wait staff also crop dust. Mostly for those tables that won't leave (campers). I used to eat 2 boiled eggs an hour or so before close just to prepare.
"Crop dusting"! Oh my God...! LOL! Flying will never be the same for me. I'll never be able to look at a passing Flight Attendant with a straight face again! That's priceless!!! LOL!
That's why window seats are at such a premium.
As always, Adams Enthusiasm jsut makes me smile.
I'd love to see a show and tell on that woodworking bench behind you. Very cool
I love this. Thank you Adam Savage for sharing I really enjoyed the story! 😊
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the adorable Maggie and her wonderful wagging tail? She is perfect. Would sit this pet someday, 10/10.
24 Seconds in and this is already your best video to date.
This cockpit made me smile even tho i didn't get to sit at it =) Good job!
It obviously needs to sit on the floor near where you work, so you can sit at it from time to time and have a smile.
I thought this was from the birdstrike episode! One of my favorites! That launcher was incredible hahahaha
I thought it was from the hair cream explosion one, but that one had actual readouts and I think Tory built it.
I remember that episode so vividly. Actually, i remember just about every episode. Hated to see Mythbusters end!!!
"crop dusting"...i laughed out loud..! lol thanks Adam. :-)
I honestly think your hair looks great. I’m really digging it! Also lovely dog cameo
Thank you for these videos they have made lockdown so much more enjoyable And why I bought the Lego space station lol stay safe and look forward to the next build
