The most powerful U.S truck engine that exists at the moment is the Cummins X15 Performance, which has 468-668 ft. lbs. of torque less than Scania. If a truck that long is lifting with 200+ hp less and up to 668 ft. lbs less then it’s only because of insanely low gearing, not engine specs.

    The most powerful Scania engine for sale right now has 730 hp and 3500 nm or 730 hp and 2580 ft.lb / sq.ft.
    Sweden generally allows trucks with a total weight (trailer, cargo and truck together) of up to 60 tons, but there are exceptions where a weight of up to 80 tons are allowed, while the weight limit in the US, as I understand it, is 36 tons.

      +Isak Johansson The trucktrain in the vid is about 24 meters, so yes they may need to be. And Sweden has about the most loose rules in Europe concerning truck lengths, height and weight. It´s road trains that aren´t necessary in Sweden.
      Also, the main reason we don´t use Kenworth, Mack and other unnecessarily big semis, is that in the US they count the allowed length of the truck from the start of the cargo to end of the train, but in Sweden we count the allowed length all the way from the front to the back.

To prevent wheel lift like this the rear rear axle is pressed down. We have a serious problem with sentral european semi trucks coming to, in my case Norway, with the turntable to far forward. Interesting design for the tractor to wheel up like that. It would have been impossible if the 2 rear axles where suspended from the same rigid frame. There has to be some kind of joint system allowing vertical flex between the leading and trailing rear axles. For this to happen, a few conditions have to be met: 1)Lead rear axle is the drive axle. 2)Tralier hitch must be directly on top or behind of flex system or else the cab would have easily swung right or left..

      american trucks are used in US, canada and Mexico. (pop. 580 million people)
      Euro-tucks are used in south america, africa, europe and asia, aka. rest of the world (ausses make their own trucks with US-names) (pop. 6.8 billion people)
      Check out trucking in Amazonas jungel if you want to se what eurotruck's used for in the real world
      The reason SCANIA dont sell trucks i US is that SCANIA only sell trucks with SCANIA-engine, US truckers want their 50's CAT-engine in everything.

      It's hard to realize but sadly you only have to listen to any trucker out there driving a Scania or Volvo truck. Compared with any US made truck .. there's lot more satisfied customers with almost any truck made in Europe. This because we build for all conditions .. and we don't use cheap crap materials. The only company that can build engines in US is Ford .. and I've yet to hear them building a real heavy truck.

    • @chuckdodge4766
      @chuckdodge4766 9 лет назад

      Dreem Walker I think you are forgetting about the Cummins and Cat. Those are real serious diesel engines made to do just about anything you can imagine with them. Cummins is used in everything from pickups, to generators, to semi's and im pretty sure they even put them in ships but don't quote me on that. They put cat engines in trucks bulldozers, as in the big monstrous suckers that literally rip earth apart (go look up a cat d16 lets see a Volvo or scania engine do that) huge dump trucks (go look up the cat 797 dump truck) once again lets see a volvo or scania engine do that. Yeah Volvo makes a good truck like greg Huntley said but you still cant beat a cummins or a cat. And as far as more satisfied drivers in European trucks, have they ever driven a Peter Built, kenworth, international, freightliner or a mack? Proabably not. We in America import a lot of things and of all things to import don't you think we would import European trucks if they were better as much as we ship? Plus our trucks don't look like someone punched it in the nose and performed emergency plastic surgery with an exacto knife. Our trucks are a statement. You roll up in a great big PeterBuilt triple axle with a cummins and chromed everything people notice and a lot of people will compliment. Have you ever been complimented on your scania? I seriously doubt it.

    • @dreem1walker

      Chuck Dodge
      You sadly are not aware of the circumstances and politics around import and export of goods between countries?! Any expert in macro economics will tell you that in order to save jobs, countries like the US have and will always do what they can to support jobs staying within national borders, even if it makes supporting businesses and production of lesser quality products - but covering it by repeating the false sense of quality "made in the US". I can tell you that it has been misused over here as well. Jens of Sweden did us all a very bad favour selling cheap quality Chinese mp3 players with a designer shell around it. But if you start talking about true hardware like tools and inventions, as well as research and education in advanced technologies and medicine (for example), any professional within these areas will confirm that a very great deal of the true top advancements .. has it's origins form Sweden. Per capita, we also have more inventions (not single patents but the basic concepts) than US can ever match - without stealing and copying just as bad as they accuse China for doing). The industrial espionage done by US companies .. equals only by China, that's a very unofficial but well known fact amongst companies around the world. If they ever try to break into the US market .. either pay for boatloads of lawyers to protect your patent as long as you can, or make partner with a US corporation .. and cash in fast cause within 5 years .. expect to be betrayed and sold out.
      I could reverse your questions by asking you: Why do you think nobody outside the US uses trucks (not super heavy ones now) made in the US but rather European brands (expect in asia)?

    Ancient technology, what a lark. You guys do realize that North American trucks are just as advanced as yours? We're using SCR/EGR technology to meet similar emission standards. Our multiplexing communication speeds are similar. Believe it or not, we have actually had ABS technology for trucks since the 70's and has been mandatory since 1997. We have RSC and ATC systems on our trucks (available as an option, not mandatory as of yet). We also have automatic 18 speed transmissions as well. The only thing you guys have bragging rights over is you get a few extra ponies. If we wanted to match your HP, all we need to do is have the ECM reprogrammed and we'd have 700HP too.

Personally I prefer American brands being that's what I grew up around. I was in no way trying to talk down the European trucks. I will say though that live tandems (6x4) and tridrives (8×6) are a must have in the part of Canada I live in due to the large loads we haul and the conditions. Sometimes the trucks are diff deep in mud and you need three drive axles to get you through.

    Volvo Trucks' got more power

    • @bob9507
      @bob9507 9 лет назад +7

      No they don't. Volvo's most powerfull engine would be the D16K750 engine. This is a 6 cilinder engine of course, since Volvo does not have any 8 cilinder engines, and produces 552kW with a max torque of 3550Nm. Now these numbers are not pulled from my gut, but from the official Volvo Trucks website. Let's head over to Scania's official website.
      *Scania R730*
      Now, this beauty has a *8 cilinder* engine, or the Scania DC16 730 16Litre 90° V8. This engine produces 537kW with 3500Nm (2581ft/lb) @ 1000-1400rpm. Now, an engine is not more powerfull when it simply has more horsepower. The Scania is more powerfull because of it's 8 cilinder engine.
      Why don't do the comparison yourself? Take a 550hp 6 cilinder car and a 530hp 8 cilinder car (Both turbo charged, same class.) Exactly, the 8 cilinder would win. Simply because 20 horsepower difference can't make a difference against 2 more cilinders. You got more 'hands' pulling on the crankshaft.
      Hope this clears up alot for you.

    • @Ultrakillerism
      @Ultrakillerism 9 лет назад

      But doesn't Volvo also make a 750hp engine? Problem is that they sell the truck only to mines, not to any normal trucking company.

    • @sniperlif3
      @sniperlif3 9 лет назад +11

      Bob
      Your comparison is flawed, if a V-6 makes 20 more HP its more powerful no matter how many cylinders it has. If a v8 has 2100 torque and a v6 has 2200 torque, the v6 wins. If a 8 cylinder and a 6 cylinder produce the same power figures I'd choose the 6 cylinder, better fuel effieciency and the fact that the 8 cylinder is only 75% as efficient in terms of power.
      Hell in your comparison not only does it have 2 more cylinders, but it also has 3Litres more space in all of the cylinders. You are looking at about 72% efficiency vs the volvo D16 that only produces less torque.
      More cylinders only allows for more power, but companies like Scania dont take advantage of the power availability so their engines all run at around 55-75% efficiency while also burning more fuel just to move the same distance as other companies.

    • @fochan9254
      @fochan9254 9 лет назад

      sniperlif3 The V6 wins? You're not even taking weight into account. And why the fuck would someone care about the fuel efficiency when you are driving a fucking €130.000 truck. I've seen a R730 and 750 race. I know the actual truth, so i'm not even going to get in to this conversation.

    First of all, Scankia doesn't rule anywhere. I have driven many trucks in my life from Western Star, Petes, Kenworth a piece of crap Volvo/vulva and a couple Freightshakers. Every European engine I have seen has been a weak piece of junk that was only good as a boat anchor. You dill weeds in Europe have unrealistic false pride. This stupid stunt even if on purpose is still stupid. It ruins the drive train. Bad on wimpy engine, transmission , driveshaft and is hard on the rearend. As for pulling power, I have known many people in the heavy haul business and every one of them has had a Cat under the hood and it was either a Pete, Mack, WesternStar or a Kenworth. I myself have always prefered my KW 900L. As for all wheel drive, yes they do exist... DUH. Look at logging and oilfield trucks in the U.S. I drove a KW T800 with 3 drive axles. Never twisted a driveshaft and never lifted the front up in the air. I would have been fired and unemployed if I did a stupid stunt like that. Btw Mercedes is a piece of over engineered junk. The Cats have been used worldwide for a reason. Low end torque and reliability in stress situations. You people in Europe are so often quick to put down and insult the U.S.A. in all we do like a bunch of ignorant little children. Grow up. Stop showing your ignorance.

Volvo VT 880 engine ranges up to 625hp, which means it's is badass f*cking truck i mean, but the same Scania you see in the video has a 620hp V8 engine, and this truck is the Scania 5th series (aka Scania R1) and it went into production in 2004. meanwhile Scania has made a newer Scania R2 (aka Scania 6th series, Scania R2009 etc,) and it's engine ranges up to 16,4l 730hp v8 engine, which is a beast!and european Volvo engine ranges to 750HP 16l l6 engine. i know that Mack Titan is also a very powerful truck and it's engine ranges up to 605hp 6 cylinder engine, but that ain't close to Scania V8 730hp engine i mean. and even here in europe we have trucks that have more than three axles, like V.D Vlist (google it) has more than two Scanias that have 12x4 axle configuration what can stand up to 350 tonnes of weight. american trucks are really really cool, but european truck are meant for work, there i said it. you americans have very long cabs because you don't have total length limits, only trailer length limits, which is for us, europeans, odd. and that's because shorter trailer = less cargo =less profit. yea i know that for longer voyages you connect more than one or two or three trailer behind you cabs, but that same thing can european truck do too, like in finland where that is very popular and in australia where volvo is one of the leading truck brands on the market. yes american trucks should be fun for everything else but hauling cargo, they have a lot of room, not in salon but alot of room in sleeping area, what european trucks lack. they have very robust suspesion, what should be a pain in the butt when it comes to shitty roads, european trucks just swim over holes in the roads (thats why latvians buy european trucks ;) ) . also american trucks could never drive in places that european trucks could, like in norway, which is one of the most dangerous places to drive a truck, have you seen those roads where truckers in norway have to drive? yes you can have your alaskan "ice road truckers" but please, come on, let them come to norway, well yea there is not very many places where you could sink through ice, but the mountains make it dangerous. engine weaker than 580hp could not stand that. end conclusion: i'd say both european and american trucks are all good and badass and it all comes down to where you live and what you want, there are some european trucks in U.S . there must be a reason why, but ofc they are very rare cuz for you americans everything have to be robust and big. ain't nothing wrong with that ;)

    I disagree, Volvo is and always has been the king of raw hauling power.

    If its only on the highway, they handle it fine, ive got a FH16 ontop of a Kenworth C509. We pull quite alot of triple RT's with tanker trailers and the occasional quad. The FH16 goes pretty decent, it is infinitely more comfortable and gets slightly better economy. They arent much chop on dirt tracks though dust and mud gets in the wiring loom and stops the truck pretty quickly, its why we use C509's for remote track work, it just keeps on going and going, and its less sensitive to bad fuel.
