Belize is beautiful but expensive. The internet connection seems like a rip-off when you can get your own Starlink connection for a lot less (after the initial setup costs). I love Corozal except for the long distance to the reef and good diving spots. Cato is good too with almost the same problem.
My folks lived in Belize for 10 years and I visited once, so I’m not an expert but here are my thoughts. Belize would be nice in your younger, active retirement years and then come back home when you start getting really old, say 75+ and need regular medical attention. You DO NOT want to be poor and live in a small village with the locals and not be able to defend yourself, because the bad guys will eventually find out and rob you. They had an elderly neighbor lady who was home sitting on the couch watching TV one day, and some bad guys just walked in and grabbed the TV and she couldn’t do anything about it. Don’t put yourself in that type of situation.

First of all, a great video explaining all the potential issues as well as what to plan for. I am subscribing. Now to Tall Knight below. I have been to Ambergris Caye, it is filthy, terrible roads, crowded but fun. I would not live/retire there for anything. Love Belize though, looking for Placentia or some place like it.

There is only one public golf course in Belize, it's a 9 hole course and it's expensive. If your a golfer, Belize is not for you. Actually there is another course on one of the cay's but it is also expensive because you have to take a boat to get there. Maybe they are making more but I would check it out before going there if you want to golf.
I recently retired and like Belize- but my checks don't come up to the amount required in the Belize retirement program. I have lived and raised my children in a poorer state in the USA. Costa Rica has less requirements, a stable government, and a cooler climate. I guess I'm a little old to learn Spanish, though :)

Are there frequent hurricane's or tornadoes that happen yearly? What is the crime like throughout the country? Thank you for your time answering my questions. Great part of the Guatemalan province of Belice will come back to Guatemala soon almost 60% of the Land..Guatemala has the support of Canada, the US, France, Belgium, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Italy and other European countries on this matter.
If you move to belize, is tgere a loophole where you could just cross the border with guatemala or mexico and get your passport stamped stay for a day then come back in to avoid having to spend $100 on a visa?
@Shawn Afshar. We actually came back from Malaysia after being there for 18 days, it was pretty sweet but we are going to head off to other Southeast Asian countries in the near future to check them out as well. It's really hard to say still, everyone is different for what they prefer. Latin America is close by but I prefer to be able to speak better Spanish before going. Europe for us, as beautiful and comfortable as it is, seems to be on the pricier side than Southeast Asia. As our networth grows larger, we may stay in Southeast Asia, then move over to Europe at a later date. Not sure yet, we are at a transitional stage right now of research and exploration. Our plan in the near future is in visiting as many countries as we can, for longer periods, a month or more at a time. @Marilynn Kennedy. Thank you! My parents are about the same age and they love nature, especially the water. They like taking those walks, I've learned from them that sometimes doing those simpler, non-touristy things are just as enjoyable, as long as you have good company!
Hi Marilyn! I just spent last week in Belize. I rented a car, drove to Corozol and San Ignacio visiting the many Maya Ruins. They had easy walking trails. Climbing the ruins is optional. One tour, Lamanai, consists of a river boat ride to the ruins. There was a 74 yo on the tour, he appeared to enjoy it. Though he didn't walk the entire tour, he was still able to reach the Jaguar temple. Very impressive pyramid! I didn't see much of Corozol. I went a little further to Consejo Shores, a small development with lots and some homes for sale. It's on the Chetumal bay, very beautiful, some expat retirees live there permanently. This is very close (half hr drive?) to Chetumal, Mexico, where one can go shopping like in the US. They have Walmart, Sam's club, Applebee's, etc. Hope that helps?
Sorry about your experience in Belize, but as far as I know personally Belize is very safe. Yes there is hot areas but so are other places with hot areas.

Matt the culture sucks in Belize and the government and police are corrupt. There’s no middle class so mostly poor people. Poor people lack empathy for animals for the most part. There’s lots of stray dogs and they treat them like rats. Medical is so bad here. I can go forever on the medical because of an experience I had about medical but I don’t feel like typejng that much. Belize is super super boring after about 1 month. There are far many places better and cheaper in the world to live. Mexico, Costa Rica to name a few.
Is there crew in Belize? Olivia Jade may get some nice pointers on how to be a rowing expert in Belize if crew exists there, lol!! Olivia, her mother Lori Loughlin, and father may be forced to leave America and go to a country like Belize!

The Guatemalan province of Belice..Belice is a province of Guatemala. Guatemala will win this by far because actually all that land belongs to the Mayans from centuries ago; English pirates just came later... Easy case for the ICJ in the Haag or Hague; otherwise Guatemala should get back his Land back one way or another... Belice should be thankful The Republic of Guatemala is letting them stay at least in 4,000 kms2 of the Guatemalan territory... God Bless!

They make the mistake between "Cayo" and "Caye Caulker"!
So that's why they showed a picture of The Split (Caye Caulker) when he was talking about Cayo. I thought that was a bit strange.

I lived there for a year. I love the people and the country. I guess they got rid of the corrupt police and cracked down on the criminals in the last 3 years since I’ve lived there....time to go back.
