  • This is typically how most people clear land down here in the South. In this video we have pawpaw's Cat 953 and Cat D6C. Thanks to everyone who is subscribed, and also future subscribers for taking time out your day to watch the videos that mean a lot to me. I want to give a special shout out to Grumpy OldGrinchGoat for everything you have done for my channel. I think you're the one to blame for the increase in views, and watch time so I would like to personally thank you for that my friend. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all. I hope it is a special one!

    I first met that 85 Bulldozer Operator when he was about 16 years old and I was about 6 years old. I am 73 years old now and I will attest that his Bulldozer Operating skills are ok just don't try to out dig him on a Ford Loader and Backhoe. I loved watching these old videos and you should be proud to have had him as your grandpa!! Odell Gwinn was one of the finest men in Gaston County. I enjoy all of your videos and subscribed.

      Hello Mr. Robinson! It sure is heartwarming to hear others speak fondly about my grandpa who I looked up to so much. You are definitely right about him and his backhoe, nobody could out dig him on that. Thank you for the kind words and subscribing.

    Yep this is how finished lots are are cleared and graded in GA. By finish I mean lots that are platted with utilities but were never cleared/graded.

      Exactly! Nothing like the smell of tress being cleared along with the diesel aroma on top of that ;)

    I always liked those vintage Fleco ROPS's on old Caterpillar bulldozers. BTW: I still see Caterpillar 963's with grapples used for pioneering (aka clearing) along with hydraulic excavators also with grabble attachments.

      Thank you for your comment Mr. Beaullier, and I agree I like the old vintage look of Caterpillar bulldozers also. One thing I must ask is where is it do you live that contractors call clearing pioneering? I have never heard that before.

      pioneering is a term used in the building of roads its basically the roughing out of the road way through heavy brush and timber

    What a cool video! So the operator of the dozer is 85?! Mad props to him, must be one strong dude to keep dozing at his age! Keep up the good work

    You must still be wet behind the ears if that's your idea of "old fashioned".

    • @CATJOHNDEERE
      @CATJOHNDEERE  5 лет назад +2

      You can say that. However you must be new to the construction industry or just not apart of at all if you were not able to recognize clearing land with a track loader is a thing of the past in some areas of this country...

    • @jeremyhenderson163
      @jeremyhenderson163 5 лет назад +1

      @@CATJOHNDEERE Actually you would be incorrect, I'm fairly seasoned to "forestry" and "deforestation",it's simply your use of misleading terminology. The use of machinery (in general) is not a rare thing today, thus the use of machinery (in general) is anything but "old fashioned". So using it in the title of this video is in fact misleading.

    • @CATJOHNDEERE
      @CATJOHNDEERE  5 лет назад

      Mr. Jeremy I not quite understanding what you're saying. The reason for using "old fashioned" was because of the specific models of the equipment used to clear the land. Newer operators have joysticks, air ride seats etc... These two machines are dinosaurs compared to newer machines especially the bulldozer.

    • @jeremyhenderson163
      @jeremyhenderson163 5 лет назад +1

      @@CATJOHNDEERE I understand what you are saying but you didn't translate that in your title, you used it in a general sense as though using machines were old fashioned. So anyone looking for videos ( like I was) of how to clear land like the old timers (no grid,no modern tools or equipment,etc.) will come across your video because the title is misleading.

      He just meant 18th century old fashioned. Anyway, thanks for the video. I'm about to tackle a little clearing myself.
