Pluto actually got promoted from "Smallest Planet" to "King of the Kuiper Belt" so I'm fine with it not being a planet. (Yes, I do know that Eris is more massive)
Haha i agree with the classification to demote it, but i think internet historian had the solution, teach there's 8 main planets, but also all the kuiper belt objects.
This seems like a question you could tackle: By the definition of a planet that Wren gave, is Neptune not a planet either? Pluto's orbit intersects with Neptune's, so they are both in the same "neighborhood" celestially speaking and Neptune hasn't swallowed up all the Kuiper belt objects either, so does it not also fail the planet definition test?
Actually, the discovery of Pluto in 1930 turned out to be an incidental finding as the perturbation in the orbit of Uranus that needed to be explained by a ‘Planet X’ would require far more mass than Pluto. So it wasn’t based on the calculations. It was just chance it happened to be there. Kinda even more interesting when you consider how freaking big space is and how small Pluto is.
Taking note that the actual size of pluto in this situation is not very important (to see it). It would have looked as a star anyway, the important factor was more the angular size of our view considering the 4 pi steradians of the total optical sphere :)
I was going to point that out too, though it was irregularities in Uranus' orbit that led to the discovery of Neptune, and irregularities in Neptune's that led to the discovery of Pluto. However, it turned out that mistakes had been made in the observations of Neptune, meaning that there never was a planet X. Pluto was discovered because of a scientific mistake.
Mike Brown, the man who discovered Eris which kickstarted Pluto's demotion to the rank of Dwarf Planet wrote a book called "How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming" which is a hilarious name.
I’m surprised this video didn’t give a shoutout to Mike Brown considering he is currently looking for a massive planet for the same reasons folks were looking for Pluto.
Fun fact: Charon was named after the ferryman of the same name, of the river Styx in greek myth, *but accidentally so.* The guy who discovered/named Charon wanted to name it after his wife, but make the name sound more "science-y." This is likely why both the pronounciation KAI-RON/KAIR-ON and SHAIR-ON are deemed acceptable, as the former is literally the name of the greek mythological figure and the latter is what the discoverer intended.
Hate to be both the nerd emoji and the know it all, but the pronunciation KAI-RON would generally be better better attributed to the centaur Chiron most known for training Greek heroes such as Achilles and Jason. Also, feel free not to respond to this, I don’t care, for some reason I just had to correct someone on something meaningless. Nothing personal.
@@cameronritchie4073 It would seem that way if you only look at the english spellings of the names. If you look at the phonetic form of Chiron, the "ron" part is denoted with a schwa sign, making it closer to "ren". To make it even more confusing the word that the name quite literally is ("hands") in greek isn't even pronounced with a hard K sound, but sounds more like "h", and the ron part there does sound like "ron". There's always going to be instances like these when you have two languages with alphabets that don't line up neatly referring to the same thing. The fact that the names are very similar doesn't help.

Your videos are absolutely amazing Wren! So inspiring! I learned something new and was amazed by your mastery in VFX, and what a great storyline! You are a true storyteller! Hello from Italy!!
I loved this video! I've never been emotionally connected to Pluto and I was glad this video wasn't trying to refute the reasons Pluto isn't a full planet Instead you went beyond that, covering WHY it's not a planet, and even emphasized that it's wonderful despite not being a normal planet. Great work!
Seeing videos like this always makes me wish we had just as detailed and beautiful pictures of every other dwarf planet, they all have interesting features to explore and I want to see them all. If I had the opportunity to somehow visit each Kuiper planet I'd take it even if it meant never coming home.
we only just recently got good picture Pluto, the one before where little than computer enhanced small fussy blobs, of colour? if we had the picture we have now, I think writing Pluto of as planet would of been much harder to do? even if it not a plant, it has historical merit, from when mankind spotted in the sky, and named it? it still a place in the sky?
These types of videos from you guys are always incredibly directed and paced, it's also always highly educative, imaginative, and inspiring, amazing job!

So basically, people have thought about Pluto as our little Solar baby since its discovery, and love it like a baby. And now it's _officially_ our little Solar baby? We went from merely fostering this cutie to finally adopting it for good. YAY!!
These videos are genuinely the best thing about corridor, not to diminish any of their other work because that's all amazing too, but these informative videos are just next level and easily some of the best videos that have ever been a part of RUclips!
This video is the perfect example of taking an otherwise slightly boring topic and making it into an incredible emotional journey for the viewer. Well done!
This is honestly such a phenomenally made video, not to mention really emotional. I adored Pluto, still do, and could never accept its unfortunate demotion, but this video gave me a whole new appreciation of Pluto *aside* from how cool having a ninth planet is.

@@graxo3752 I'm pretty sure you meant "Michael Jordan", but coincidentally the average 5-yo is 42" tall...
“Michael Jackson,” 💀💀💀
Was looking for this
Annie is *not* ok 💀
Yooooo
I loved this video! I've never been emotionally connected to Pluto and I was glad this video wasn't trying to refute the reasons Pluto isn't a full planet Instead you went beyond that, covering WHY it's not a planet, and even emphasized that it's wonderful despite not being a normal planet. Great work!
@9:57 I just love my Air Jackson's 👟 - named after that famous basketball 🏀 player 🤫
Keep up the science related videos!
Combination of VFX and science is awesome.
Soo wholesome 😊 great vfx guys. I clicked on this expecting it to be something silly, but instead got a mature, educated, masterful work of art!
These types of videos from you guys are always incredibly directed and paced, it's also always highly educative, imaginative, and inspiring, amazing job!
At 0:34 I noticed Wren's shadow's not matched to his feet for a tiny sec... and the only reason I was able to pick that up is all this excellent content Corridor Crew's been dishing out. You guys are phenomenal!
This video gives off heavy captiandisillusion vibes and I LOVE it
Oh man what amazing storytelling. Wren you need a freaking award for this. So damn engaging. I didn't want it to end. I can watch 3 hours of this.
Dude, imagine if Wren and Corridor were given a proper budget to do a full-on science show like this?
@@Dargonhuman i know right. That would be awesome.
Shoutout to Graham Norton and Michael Jackson 😂
"Tell pluto it's not a planet
And he'll probably keep spinning in the same old way
On and on, every day"
-Watsky (Fireworks)
9:56 wrong mj buddy 😅
7:50 This really puts a new perspective on the phrase "one does not simply walk into Mordor"
😂
Step 1: build space elevator from Pluto to Charon.
Step 2: simply walk into Mordor
Didn’t expect the feels…
This is a beautiful video, Wren. Thanks for making these and can’t wait for more!
Absolutely love the Jeremy Johns "Now it's a party" reference made me laugh out loud
Wren needs his own science show. Seriously, every time he does this, its interesting and captivating.
This type of video format is really entertaining. Dare i say better than most others that you do. Love it. For this one, the writing and street telling is just plain awesome 😎
So basically, people have thought about Pluto as our little Solar baby since its discovery, and love it like a baby. And now it's _officially_ our little Solar baby? We went from merely fostering this cutie to finally adopting it for good. YAY!!
9:57 "Micheal Jackson" 💀
Really love these series of mindful videos. Keep up the great stuff
These videos are genuinely the best thing about corridor, not to diminish any of their other work because that's all amazing too, but these informative videos are just next level and easily some of the best videos that have ever been a part of RUclips!
he went through the 5 stages of grief denial 0:33 anger 2:31 bargaining 9:43 depression 11:51 acceptance 13:27 XD
These kinda videos are so fun yet informative. Looking forward to more of these!
Dang i teared up when you rammed all the other bodies into pluto thus changing it into something totally different. Just gotta accept it as it is.
Can we please acknowledge how perfect the lighting of Wren is when he is ON Pluto itself. Pefection.
Wren, your videos are always my favorite! I show all of your videos in my science classes. My kids love them ❤
Such a great presentation. So much energy, excitement, and wealth of information in a great format! Love you guys!
Not only did you go full super-villain mode and blast Pluto, you also gave us a redemption arch. Incredible work, I love this channel
Absolutely amazing video!
It would be amazing to see you make a dedicated video to each planet in our solar system!
Childhood nostalgia trigger: y’all remember when Arnold took off his space suit helmet and his head just immediately freezes💀
You mean from the magic school bus??
And recovers with just some sniffles
For some reason, that freaked me out so much as a kid, watching his head immediately freeze like that.
Core childhood trauma
Yep
Thank you so much for sharing your passion and excitement for space and space related things, Wren.
Visually stunning AND amusing. Not to mention educational. Thank you!
Wrens' enthusiasm for learning makes him the perfect host for these educational videos.
This video is the perfect example of taking an otherwise slightly boring topic and making it into an incredible emotional journey for the viewer. Well done!
There is honestly nothing boring about space. The more you learn, the more fascinating it becomes!
This is honestly such a phenomenally made video, not to mention really emotional. I adored Pluto, still do, and could never accept its unfortunate demotion, but this video gave me a whole new appreciation of Pluto *aside* from how cool having a ninth planet is.
Man Wren is unironically a good actor, those last few minutes got me emotional. I've never seen an educational video being so fun to watch, well written and obviously the VFX are stunning. I hesitated for a while to sub because I was suspecting this channel to be a content mill (8 videos per month is kind of a lot, right?), but damn man, now I'm in.
"It even has a heart, unlike you." That's chilly.
Pluto will forever hold a special little place in my heart ❤️ I teared up a little toward the end. Thank you for this, Wren. Thank you.
this video has a special place in my heart. its well made that most of the cgi works in the movies are no match, and an educational video for people can understand easily and make them curious to learn more out on their own. thank you guys for making this video.
"Clearing the neighborhood " is one of the funniest things I've heard. Love it❤❤
This was utterly delightful in every sense of the word. Thank you for sharing your passion for knowledge with us, Wren!
