- The 2015 BMW R1200R was designed to be great everyday urban transport but comfortable and capable enough for long distances with a passenger and luggage as well, and a reasonable dirt road wouldn’t be a problem either. It’s your basic Roadster, the most direct descendant of the first Boxer BMW built nigh-on 100 years ago.

This bike is one of my top picks on my short list of purchase candidates for 2015.

The ease of maintenance on those heads would be a huge plus as well. I'd actually prefer a Guzzi in that regard, but this is a close runner up.
Motorcycle Extremist same here
Motorcycle Extremist Me too!
Does this guy actually get all expense-paid trips by motorcycle manufacturers to give the same generic info as a brochure...? How did it handle? How was throttle response? How was the front end compared to traditional BMW telilver suspensions? How was the seat? Did it feel like a GS? Did the ESA make a marked difference with settings???? Please let me have a go at being a Motorcycle.com video dude!
yeah really...my mom could have done a way better job, haha
hankgs Well, this is what you call a teaser. That's why it says "read the full report at (link) " when you click "more". Nobody would send John Burns to Spain for a 30 second spot.
+hankgs Yea, agree this is a BAD review
should have titled the video 2015 BMW R1200R Accessory Launch.
Beautiful
This guy could make any bike boring !
I really like the aim of this bike, there's nothing really like it on the market that offers that low grunt and can be okay on the highway. I guess one could say the super duke, but that's gonna blow on the highway, where-as the 1200 boxer has been proven in the R1200GS to be fine for highway riding many times over - the cruise control would also help A LOT with that, as would the heated grips. Really think it's kind of off in a world of its own comparatively and I like that.
Also glad that BMW is putting heated grips and cruise on all their bikes. Bikes are switching over fly by wire slowly but surely, and if you have that then cruise control is literally only a software update, feel like not enough manufacturers are putting that on....heated grips are just nice if you ride year round like I do. They make a world of difference.
Look forward to a full review of this bike.
This guy gets it. This bike is on my short list.
I'm not sure why you review gents don't show us some braking and standing start in traffic video too. Its lovely throttle on handling video, but shouldn't a review also include some stop start low speed dynamics? Just a thought.
anybody know why most sport motorcycle manufacturer makes the front fender too short ? It will make engine compartment dirt so bad. anyway, this is vey nice bike...

where is this place?
Like FZ1 bike. Style
Låter för mycket! Går det fortare om man kör ett spett genom ljuddämparen? Too moch noise. Too much noise! Does the speed increase when a metal-bar is shoved thrugh the muffler! I am not impressed!
It's a launch alright.....
Just so uninspiring visually
I like the aesthetics, lol. It's subjective, I guess.
EDIT:
Well, mostly like the aesthetics*. I wish they didn't ditch the round headlight that it had last year, not a fan of the tear drop one.
If you want a good looking naked, go Triumph, Ducati or Aprilia (Tuono)
But as uninspiring as they may look, little can keep up with a BMW R1000R on a twisty road
And that boxer engine has tons of character
JackSwatman I think it looks pretty great. Especially with the lower engine spoiler. Its a naked so there's only so much you can do stylistically. Reminds me a little of Ducati Streetfighter but w/ 50/50 weight distribution.
+
Its not an ugly one
Is it possible to make these boxers sound like anything other than a weed whacker with aftermarket exhaust?
Too much Electronics..
I think it doesn't have any of that stock, the heated grips are add-ons, as is cruise control, as is the drivability modes, as is the active suspension.
does it have character or is it as tame and boring as the guy doing the review?
Old mans bike
A bike for old men to take to the mountains and blast squids....
meow larry The look on your face when an old man passes you easily on a BMW will be priceless.
meow larry I prefer "thinking man's bike", personally. There's something to be said for arriving at your destination without being all crippled up with sore neck and wrists. And... I'd like a dollar for every R12R that surprised the shit out of some kid on a Gixxer. Having said all that, I sold mine (2009), it was buzzy as hell on the highway. The new engine may be a big improvement, might have to find out.
meow larry You might be right. I am 42 and love this bike.
Peter Jowett I sold my 2007 and still regret it. I didnt notice any buzzing on mine though. In any case I plan to get cruise control on the one i buy.
A rich mans ride for sure. I don't like the style or all the electronic gizmos it has. To much stuff to break
Has this been your experience with motor cycle electronics? (not trolling, it's a real question.)
Yes it has been. I'm only 27 and prefer to not have electronic adjustable suspension and stuff like that.
If it breaks, dealer will fix it ! Relax
Jacob James As the owner of a restored 4o yr old cafe I prefer the new technology more than the old reliable stuff. I test rode this R1200R the other day and was blown away by it.
+Tim Jones thanks dude, how old were you when you started riding?
