오이는 여러가지 종류가 있지만 많은 오이 중에서도 노각(늙은) 오이라고 불리는 우리나라 토종 오이는 수확하고 남는 것은 그대로 두면 노란색의 노각(늙은) 오이가 된다.
봄에 모종을 심은 오이는 8월이 되면 그 수명이 다하여 더 이상 수확을 포기 할 정도가 되는데..
6월 중순 정도에 씨앗을 파종하고 7월에 모종을 이식하면 가을까지 수확하여 식 재료로 사용하고 남은 것을 두면 노각 오이가 된다.
오이는 수분을 많이 필요로 하는 작물이여서 주기적으로 수분을 공급해 주어야 하는데 수분이 부족하면 오이 모양에 변형이 생긴다.
텃밭에서도 하루에도 주기적으로 물을 공급해 줄 필요가 있다.
