I think this was totally spot on. There is a ton of books and other modern sources that present Wicca as the end-all-be-all of witchcraft. It makes me really happy to see this being thoroughly defined for people.
And worse, those books have been teaching for a while that Wicca is the end-all-be-all of witchcraft to people and those people are teaching other people... And now you have Wiccans assuming we are all doing witchcraft wrong because we don't follow their path.
I was curious about that because I thought it was strange how hard Wiccans distance themselves from satanism. A Wiccan online was saying how they were tired of people thinking they were a satanist and I just pointed out that both religions have a horned deity, use spells and magic and use a lot of the same symbols. A bunch of Wiccans on there just said I was wrong and that I needed to do more research and telling me to shut up without any further explanation. I never said they were the same at all, I get that one is more about loving nature and the other is more about loving yourself but I really don’t get why they were so offended that I made the comparison. Ik I’m on some dear diary shit but that was just strange to me. I didn’t think I was being offensive or spreading misinformation at all and what was more frustrating was the lack of any actual explanation of why they thought I was wrong. I did do my own research and reached the same conclusion. They are religions that are similar in practice but very different ideologically.
So...go figure - I made this comment and then went and had a dream that night that I was speaking to the child me and she told me that Freyja wanted me to reach out to her. I had very little knowledge of any of the deities so I had to look her up the next day. And it made so much sense. So now I've done a 180 and am looking into how to work with her 😏
I once looked up Pagan to mean “Country Dweller”. I refer myself as just Pagan, as I don’t have a specific religion, and am more of an eclectic witch. I believe in all things; mystical creatures such as dragons, unicorns, ect. Even the Fae, and any god or goddess.
I'm a baby witch, and I wanted to learn witchcraft. Mind you I didn't know about Wicca and Paganism. But I only told my mom want I wanted to do and she handed me a book from Scott Cunningham titled " Wicca a guide for the solitary practitioner." And I started studying it yesterday but I started searching about witchcraft it's self a couple days ago. I now understand the differences. I'm still a baby witch but I feel like i'm falling into the eclectic witch path were I have no religion. :)
Yes I love this! I'm a norse pagan but I've recently started getting into witchcraft. I feel like some people think that means I'm straying from my religion but I definitely don't think of it that way. They had their seers which are basically witches just by a different name. I love that you've put the correct information out there!

yes! One of my biggest pet peeves ever is when someone acts like satanism is demonic or evil or involves some sort of blood ritual its crazy how so many people are so uneducated and make assumptions and assume its the truth

Typically followers of non-Abrahamic (followers of the God of Abraham: Judaism, Christianity, Islam) religions. I've seen Christians who practice witchcraft, though it is not so common. It is a practice, not always connected with any particular religion, though it can be. Wicca was an effort to reclaim the traditional practices of the 'old religions' and attempt reclaim the word 'witch.'

I love how being a witch and pagan doesn't mean having to have gods-goddesses-deities or follow certain practices or dogma. Love the green shadow on you, btw. Also, out of interest the Oxford English dictionary pronounces wicca witch-uh (which can denote the male and wicce, witch-eh, as the female).

Like, for example if you do a bad luck spell on someone and that person has bad luck for a few days, how can you be sure that this is your doing and not coincidence? I'm sorry if I sound . . . stupid, but I'm curious about that.
This is the only time that I have ever heard this explained it so rationally. Hindus, Buddhists, Taoists, people who practice Santería or Voodoo would not identify ourselves as Pagans though many might and this fact is lost on a lot of people.

When I was in the US Marines in back the the 1990s, I knew a lot of guys into Wicca, and who were magick practitioners. I was an atheist then, having left my LCMS upbringing behind. Pagans are in the most unexpected places! My own pagan journey was a long one, myself having come to polytheism over time this late in life (primarily, though not exclusively Hellenic).

I am just starting out on my magical journey and came across this video as I am reading alot of books and it seems like most point to Wicca following a deity/god as mentioned. I do have a book to read on just the deities and gods alone to see if any resonate with me but it is good to know my magical journey has multiple paths and I am letting my intuition guide me. I consider myself pagan witch but am not religious and do not follow deities. My beliefs and practices revolve around the earth and the cosmos.
