    I do all my sharpening by hand only because there is just something satisfying about the sound of the knife on the stone and its also quite relaxing as well

    One of the Most important rules of all, COUNT YOUR PASSES! That is one of the CORE rules on any sharpening medium! If you don't count your passes your bevel will be offset and cut biased to one side and you will never get a clean slice!
    A a little tip aswell, Alternate your strokes after you formed your burr on both sides of the knife! Alternating 2-3 times on 220 and then alternate the Purple belt untill the burr is gone!

    Awesome bigred thanks for sharing. I was actually just going to sharpen my fillet knife this weekend and I was thinking about using the worksharp sharpener but I didn’t know if I should, so this was really great of you to share as this perfect time. 💪👊

    I do a lot of handsharpening, but flexible blades like fillet knives are a pain in the a**, this is so much easier! Razorsharp in just minutes, I say great job JB.

    Thanks for the video. I really appreciate it. I also bought the leather strop belts on amazon for the MK2. I have read somewhere that you want to leave a filet knife a little toothy and not take it to a polished finish. I have 6 filet knives to do. I guess I will try it both ways and see which he prefers. If anyone knows the right answer to that question, I would be grateful for an answer.

    • @BigRedEDC
      @BigRedEDC  3 года назад +1

      I have always went to the 6k grit with very good results. Trying it both ways and seeing which one you like better is a good start!

      @@BigRedEDC I did two filet knives and two cheap EDCs and used the super strops. You might want to check them out. Worth the 17 bucks for the 2 pack in my opinion.

      Awesome Ross! Thanks for the info!

    • @AYellowPepper
      @AYellowPepper 3 года назад

      Yes! If you dont work up the grits past 600 you will notice a significant increase in "Agressiveness" and "Stickieness" on the knife, it basically has a micro serration!
      The worksharp mk 2 does this if you only do 1-2 passes on the purple belt after using the brown ones and then strop!

    • @Rossco1869
      @Rossco1869 3 года назад

      @@AYellowPepper Thank you for the tip. My next go round I will give it a try. They apparently use the filet knives for processing deer and other meat as much as they do fish.

    @BigRedEDC I've got the older version of this sharpener. I liked it a lot, except that I found it scratches-up the surface of the blade, presumably from grit particles coming off the belt surface onto the face of the knife. I've heard many other folks had this issue. I can't see this new version of the sharpener correcting the issue. What is your experience?

    • @BigRedEDC
      @BigRedEDC  3 года назад +1

      That has been an issue for sure! I use the blue painters tape to cover the blade if I am doing a nicer knife! Also, they did cover the angle guides with leather to reduce the possibility of that happening!
      Thanks Thomas!!

    • @AYellowPepper
      @AYellowPepper 3 года назад

      They added leather pads to help with this a bit, but most importantly is that you frequently brush your tool! All of worksharp tools are big dust producers!
