    I am watching your lectures regularly. Simultaneously I am taking the help of textbook for improving the knowledge in subject area.
    I promise you sir that, with this video lectures I will explore the knowledge and try to transform the same to my maximum students.
    Also, inform to the students about the link.
    Thanks for shearing the video lectures.

    Thank you for uploading the lecture on Level of Service.
    May I request you to elaborate or clarify the following:
    1. Distribution curve of speed difference (SD). How intersection of normal curve and histogram gives the maximum observed SD for highway.
    2. Plot between Gap value and Cumulative distribution of Non-Followers. Possibly, an equation between NF and CG would also be useful.
    May also like to see that in the solution of example as per HCM(2016), ATS by graph appears to be 55 mph, giving PFFS=91.6% or LOS of B.
    Kind regards

    • @SatishIITR
      @SatishIITR  3 года назад

      Thanks Mr. Gupta for watching the video. My response to your comments is given below.
      1. US HCM defines a follower if the gap between two vehicles is 3 sec or less, and a vehicle moving in free flow condition is this gap is more that 10 sec. It does not consider speed difference as the criterion when defining a follower. In Indo-HCM, we included this parameter also because we observed that vehicles with smaller headways are also moving freely and they do not intend to overtake the leaders (we called them happy followers). Therefore, SD and gap both must be considered. The intersection point of histogram and the normal curve gives the minimum and maximum SD range for a highway when the vehicle can be called as following. During development of the Manual, we found that the vehicles that were travelling within a SD limit of -4 to +10 km/h and a gap value lower than 10 sec are the followers. I hope it answers your query.
      2. NF is not Non-Followers, it is the Number of Followers, and it will depend upon the traffic volume on the road. The equation proposed in the manual is based on CG values, although it is not a parameter in NF equation.

      Ashwini Ji, Sorry, I missed last part of your question in my answer. It is difficult to read ATS correctly from the graphs at a small screen like a laptop and therefore always recommended to calculate it. Graphs are plotted using these equations only. The value shown in the example problem is correct, I rechecked. Thanks for watching.

    Also How to use curve enveloping technique for capacity determination

    • @SatishIITR
      @SatishIITR  Год назад

      Yes, I am making a video on method of capacity estimation from field data. It does not matter whether it is two lane or wider road. Method remains the same. will upload soon.
      Envelope curve technique is not a good technique for capacity estimation as it always overestimate the capacity.

    Great information prof... my question is..is there a specific period of time to observe traffic before determine LOS.?..

    • @SatishIITR
      @SatishIITR  2 года назад

      LOS should be determined during both periods off-peak and on-peak. Peak period LOS is an indicator of traffic loading on the highway and should be considered for upgradation work.

    Dear Sir, really good lecture and very easy to understand. I have one question.
    1) how to understand v/c >1? Could you please explain when 'v' will be greater than 'c' since the capacity represents the maximum flow?

    • @SatishIITR
      @SatishIITR  3 года назад

      Thanks Anshuman, V/C ratio cannot be more than 1. If it is being shown more than 1 then it will only mean that the capacity is not estimated properly. Capacity value taken from the standard guide(s) may create this type of situation.

    Sir, how we will find "Level service" at mid blocks for Indian urban roads ?

    • @SatishIITR
      @SatishIITR  Год назад

      LOS on Urban mid block sections are defined in diffreent manners in the different documents. INDO_HCM defines in terms of v/c ratio and Percent of free flow speed (PFFS). Some documents define in terms of delay particularly when signal density is high.

      two manuals are different in many aspects but not for two-lane roads. The analyses of other facilities like intersections, roundabouts and multilane highways are different
