What a sweet and generous man Mr Griffith was. Giving all the credit for the shows success to Don Knotts.

Andy Griffith was at a ripe old age, but I was still absolutely heartbroken when he died. He'll always be one of the greatest.

Andy Griffith was such a talented man and a smart one too. He knew that Don Knotts would make Mayberry successful. That is the sign of a genius and a great man when he can take a back seat to someone else and not let egos get in the way. That is why the show lasted for nine years.

Oh.. if people were still kind and generous today, what a different world it would be.

Sheldon Leonard was the nasty bartender at Martini's Saloon in "It's a Wonderful Life" giving out wings. The two main characters on "The Big Bang Theory" are named in his honor.

Isn't it interesting that when you listen to Andy talk he gives all kudos to either Don or the other Mayberry characters and when you hear Don talk he gives all the credits to Andy.
But what do you hear from actors these days but self adulation and what they themselves contribute. Big difference!

I too remember when i heard that he passed...i was on a Northbound Amtrak Train in New York state to Montreal. During the spotty wifi, i got glimpse of a newspaper article that the ambulance had been dispatched. The next time we had wifi, i read that he had passed. I will never forget it, both the train and the article.

Andy loved being a straight man (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I think Andy Griffith is absolutely right. The first couple of episodes it looked like they wanted to make him the comical character, but when he became the straight man to the comedy of Barney, Floyd and later on Gomer, Goober, Ernest T. Bass and the Darlings, etc. along with characters who were in between funny and straight like Aunt Bee, Opie, Thelma Lou and Andy's different girlfriends, the show really hit its stride. Also, I know a lot of other fans of the show didn't like the character of Warren. But I really think that since Don Knotts had to leave the show due to his movie contract, they should have kept Jack Burns on as Deputy Warren. Know what I mean? huh? huh? huh? Sure you do. LOL

TAGS is the GOAT show. I never get tired of it. I'm only 31 as well. I didn't like Andy's character that much in the first 20 or so EPS. Losing Don was a killer. Andy acted like he was ill all the time in those last 3 seasons. Warren was to annoying though. If they toned him down it might've been better.

Justin Lecroy I agree. If they had toned Warren down a bit I think it would have worked out better. And also, the scripts were written for Don Knotts, not Jack Burns. Don would have been terrific in the scripts that season, but I have to admit I did think Jack Burns was especially funny in the episode where he kept on sleepwalking. I really don't think they gave it enough time for Jack Burns to develop the character of Warren. And it just seemed odd that Andy Taylor was the only lawman in the town of Mayberry, although Barney and Warren weren't exactly top notch cops...LOL.
