Great talk, Bianca! Every step counts, even if some donc live a zero waste life. And you are right: as consumer you has always a choice to NOT BUY even if its sometime hard to see when you go to the shops. And moreover: to write to the companies that we dont want their products anymore. Every step counts. I started to bring all the plastic back to the shop just to show them that I am not ok with all that plastic. You always have a choice.

If any entrepreneur opens up a grocery store chain with no plastic packaging, she/he will have me as a life-long loyal customer. I am always looking for grocery stores where I can buy food items of non-plastic packages. I hop stores to store with my eyes zeroed in non-plastic Iterms I want to buy. I have to tell you it is not possible to shop free of plastics. Our government must impose taxes on plastic merchandises and plastic packages, before it is too late. Wake up, America!

I live one year and a half here in UK and I am disappointed of how much plastic we use! In Greece I had more zero waste options and choices.

Yeah moving from Italy I definitely noticed that in the UK single use items are much more common, as are ready meals and plastic packaged goods, but I think that things are moving and slowly changing, so I'm feeling positive:)

@@thetitinis8156 Spero che la gente capisca un giorno che il futuro si trova nel semplice e modesto modo di vita! Non e' facile (per me cambiare il modo di essere e' un sforzo che non ha ancora gli esiti desiderati) ma speriamoci! ;-)

we need our job which is apropriated to this lifestyle. If i work for instant noodle company or I'm a marketing agent, how i live 2-face life? If i need to ship my products for far distance customers or export for developing my business, how i package things without plastic?

I think that doing our best should be celebrated and that we should focus on our successes rather than on the things that we cannot change! I don't think that trying to live a sustainable lifestyle while working for a company that isn't sustainable means living a 2-face life, I think that the result of your efforts and the little changes you are able to make are still worth it!
Regarding shipping I have a company as well and ship plastic-free both direct orders and wholesale orders, I use paper tape, cardboard boxes, and plastic-free protective packaging, for what I sell protective recycled brown paper is enough, but there are also compostable packing peanuts, paper pulp protective packaging (the "shaped" one, like the one that is used for computers etc and that is usually made of plastic)
Luckily more and more options are being developed every day and I find that it is usually possible to find a plastic-free solution to most shipping issues!
If instead you were referring to the outer packaging, I have to admit that as I make cosmetics food packaging is not my area of expertise, I know that some companies use compostable packaging, but I find that it's not an ideal solution, I think that getting in touch with a company that sells food in sustainable packaging or with a consulting company might be the best way to find the perfect solution for you!

Absolutely possible. I am on board for a zero waste planet stores and life. I am excited to be making a difference. And my wallet is getting fatter by each week I go zero waste.
The average amount of zero waste followers savings annually is about 5 k.
    Go zero waste!!!!

Ummmm really. Bea Johnson is the queen of the jar and zero waste. Just saying nothing she said is any different than what Bea has said or what Lauren has said. Literally word for word.

This kind of stuff is funny because they never really tell you the true cost. The true cost is that this type of living requires it to be a lifestyle. It consumes you. You sacrifice comfort in fear you'll undo everything you've achieved in the last whatever amount of time. It will then become an obsession. You'll do it for so many years before you get burned out and realize you really haven't done squat in the grand scheme, but you managed to make your own life miserable in the process. Way to go!

I have a more easy-going approach to zero waste living, I do what I can when possible (so depending on what I have access to, my economic situation, my mental health etc). Honestly moving to a more zero waste lifestyle has only made my life happier, I feel good about knowing that I'm doing positive things and having a positive impact, and when I can't or won't do things "zero waste" I just know that that's okay too!
The important thing is to focus on the successes, which are so valuable as we don't live in a very zero waste friendly society so being able to do things better deserves to be celebrated, and "forgive" yourself for what you can't or are not comfortable in doing:)
There's no need to do everything, I think that a world in which everyone does a few things is more desirable than a world in which there are a few perfect individuals that have no negative impact at all!
