I Met her in Kroger in Versailes Kentucky. My Mother was her vintage and said, that lady looks like Kim Novak, and it was her. She was very nice and easy. She was buying vegetables, told us her husband was a horse vet. Really really nice and then she was still beautiful...

Wow, I'm blown away by her authenticity and sincerity. Probably one of very few actors who has always been in touch with their true self. I have an entirely different admiration for her after seeing this. She isn't just some kind of phony narcissistic attractive actor. So well-rounded , intelligent and so talented.

I certainly couldn't have guessed from watching her flims, that Kim (Marilyn, but I guess that name was already taken) was a hippie! This was made 55 years ago! - and she'd already tired of Hollywood. Thoughtful and insightful, she was also wise. She could dance too - watch her with Frank Sinatra in 'Pal Joey', but ... she had no realy training for acting, singing and dancing as she didn't really know what she wanted to do?! Incredible. And boy could she paint! 4:59 : O For a time, she was surely the most beautiful woman in the world and yet such ordinary parents, she looks nothing like her mum. You have to believe that someone sprinkled something on her at birth and gave her gifts she initially struggled to deal with. Pyewacket (the Siamese cat in Bell, Book and Candle) was I think given to her at the end of filming, and lived with her here : )

When you have persona like Miss Kim Novak magic happens on and off camera.
There is a vulernable quality that to this day seems unmatched.
Yet she unmatched as a modern day witch capable of making illicit decisions for which she won my heart.
Kim Novak creates magic in a graceful way Every time I have ever seen her.
Her portrait artistry is a revelation and leads us to the inner sanctum of get soul.
It seems Kim Novak is a rare genius on many levels.

With one of the most laid back, understated acting styles that intrigue and delight, coupled with her beauty Kim Novak makes for me a mesmerising performer. I just viewed for the first time her very first film, The Pushover (1950), and her movie persona was already on full display. She seems the opposite of say Bette Davis who had a high octane, in your face acting style. There is never any mystery there. You always know what's on Bette's mind but with Kim you can never be quite sure. I am so glad she was never seduced by Hollywood's fame and money but lives a full rounded life with many achievements and happiness. A rare outcome for an inhabitant of that town. She is up there with some of my other favorite actresses such as Audrey Hepburn, Lee Grant, Emily Blunt and Louise Brooks.

Years later when a girlfriend and I had read about her marriage to a veterinarian, we were able to get his office phone number and called on a Sunday afternoon. In her day she could run circles around today's actresses not only in beauty but in talent. Gull House had some damage done to it during a storm several years ago, the girl who lived there at that time with her father is a photographer and actually posted pictures of the storm before making a run for it. Since then it has been resold and they are renovating and making part of it an art studio. My understanding is that when Kim bought it a storm had also damaged it before she bought it, the storm happened on her birthday, so she took it as a sign and bought it. That place has a power all its own, the rocks, the ocean, the energy vibrate through the house, as one person who took a tour when it sat empty once said of it. I know it's private property, it was when Kim lived there,....but it will always be the house of Kim Novak, no matter who lives there.

yes, we like her for the same reasons. I think I must drive her nuts on Gull House, I am always talking about it, she said she would put up more pictures sometime. I also asked her if that bear in the living room was the same one they used in 'Boys NIght Oot' and although briefly, she did answer me by saying "Yes, same bear." Course I was just elated to get a response!

I am a bit older than others here, will be 75 this month, so first saw Kim when she first began acting, and I've never looked back. I do keep tabs on her FB page, but don't usually comment. I am fortunate to have two of her prints, "Vertigo" and "Horse Heaven", both of which I love!! I will probably end up with more, as there are several others that keep calling to me....Lol! Rod, thanks so much for this.....what a treat for Kim's loyal fans who still wish she never gave up on Hollywood! Good thing for her, she did, however. Also, as a recluse of sorts, I certainly understand why she did.. It has been a difficult and sad loss, however, for those of use who still and will always love her!

I hadn't see this about Kim and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is rather dated but still is historical. Kim Novak is one of the best actors in history. Not only in Vertigo but Of Human Bondage, she was utterly captivating. She was the main character in Vertigo with dual roles. A weaker actress could not have carried it off, but she made it believable.

Kim Novak on her friends in Big Sur : " ...they love you for what you are, not who you are. " The comment by this beautiful and multifaceted woman is quite notable for it shows us what the the 19th Century philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche really meant when he subtitled his iconoclastic autobiographical work Ecce Homo : How One Becomes What One Is. There is oftentimes a misunderstanding by scholars, critics and teachers as to why Nietzsche used the word ' what ' instead of ' who ' in the subtitle. Watch this short bio on Kim Novak and find out for yourself. An extraordinary woman, indeed.

Thanks for the upload ! This is a series (Hollywood and the Stars) I was unfamiliar with and am glad to have found it. Like millions of other guys, I've had a crush on Kim from the get-go (shall we day when I was 8 or 10 years old -- now 66!). I was fortunate enough to be in Hollywood in 2012 at the TCM film festival when Kim had her hand and footprints enshrined at Grauman's Chinese Theater and later saw her interview with Robert Osborne. One class act ! I will ALWAYS love her !!

Jim Stark Vertigo wasn't a hit when it first released. It's grown in popularity over time. And this was a positive piece here, so of course no mention of any scandal. I think Kim was fortunate to be born with a mind of her own. It saved her from the downside of Hollywood and she's lived her "true self" kind of life. Monroe's death really scared her. She said that in an interview many years later. I'm sure it did make her question what she really wanted...Is "Jim Stark" your real name or are you a James Dean fan? lol.

It's not sad its unbelievable that a person or group of people or country goes to that extreme to control the lives of another human being and threaten peoples lives if they don't conform to their demands that they put fourth and telling free people what's acceptable and what's not, to take and have that much control over another human being is evil and diabolical but many things were and are done in this country that go unquestioned and unpunished or anything done about, people just went and go along, but its a new day and generation and many are revolting now which is or should of been expected to happen.

@@summertea545 perhaps she said it to downplay more controversy and go on with her life and make her living after all she knows certain people wouldn't like hearing the truth and she knows how this world is and how the system works so naturally she probably would deny it however that relationship and events surrounding it was common and world knowledge during that period, it was written about and Sam even acknowledged it in a past interview, ( buy his autobiography) also its normal she would deny it because really why was it so important for certain people to know in the first place? She didn't do anymore than Liberance or Rock Hudson or Marlon Brando Cary Grant Randolph Scott Loretta Young and many many more when it came to keeping their secrets in the closet, Hey its not just the Hollywood way many john Q publics have done the same thing and worse, get real😳 and really who cares does it offend you that Sam was her lover once upon a time?, oh well that's life.
