PSVR will also be 500 dollars. Highly doubt they are going to let the money stand on the table when you look at the Quest 2. Yes that's stand alone. But they also practice anticompetitive practices by keeping things like RE vr exclusive it's dumb.

    • @Mitsirugi0308
      @Mitsirugi0308 2 года назад +3

It really seems unnecessary to have taken this approach of "just raise the price lol". As you said, you would think that their market projections for PSVR2 and the new controller sales would help mitigate the damage. Alternatively, something like a bundle with some game becoming standard with a 40 dollar price increase would've been another lazy way to hide the cost increases. It's not like they'd even have to provide a physical copy. Just include some download code in the box for a digital edition of a game. I guess they'd rather deal with the bad PR.
I wonder if part of the reason they don't care is because they have no difficulty in moving the few systems that are produced. If they don't immediately end up in the hands of an actual gamer, then a scalper will grab it anyway.

If it wasn’t for game pass and massive studio acquisitions I don’t think this would hurt sony too much, but there are now a number of reasons to go Xbox over ps5 this gen. With Sony not being able to get far out of the gate due to the economic climate, the stars might be aligning for Microsoft to take this generation.
The business model should really be to make the money back on software.
I also couldn’t agree more that Sony should have been more creative if they are adamant to make a better return on the hardware. If they chucked in 12 months of ps+ essential or a game like horizon of gt7 they could actually spin it that that they are adding value to base cost. Barmy.

Now Sony is alienating their customers with a price hike. I have been loyal and fan of sony consoles since 1. While I am turned off from ps5 with this and will skip this gen unless sony starts being reasonable again, it wont make me get Xbox even if it gets nice exclusives. Xbox S does not have a build in disc drive. That is a dealbreaker for me. So new gen ps5 with disc drive was the only one I cared about. But that has become way to expensive. So I'm noping out of this gen alltogether and will just entertain myself with my ps4 backlog. There are a lot of amazing games still to play here.
If console gaming ever goes 100% digital, I'll nope out of consoles alltogether as well and make the jump to PC. The only reason I stick to consoles is because it has physical media still which I am fond off. But if it does away with that, PC it is.
My point, I honestly doubt PS5 rage will influence Xbox sales a lot. I of course can be wrong, but I feel like a lot of people who wanted the PS5, especialy the disc version, wanted it for reasons that Xbox can not bridge. If anything, I think it will just result in fewer ps5 sales. If people jump ship I think it's more likely they jump to PC or Switch (if they dont have those already) or even go retro and start looking into older consoles again.

Sony has done so many anti consumer moves this generation and their fans do not seem to care and will justify any move the company makes. They don't care Sony charges more for titles, they don't care that Sony won't let developers put their game up on sale when they want to discount it for consumers, they don't care Sony banned download codes in physical stores to keep an absolute monopoly on digital titles. They have a monopoly on their own marketplace. Both Xbox and Nintendo do indeed have their own marketplaces, but they do not have a monopoly. You can go to a physical store and still purchase a game code through the store and directly through Xbox or Nintendo, this allows businesses to create competition and incentives like even a 10% discount to get people into a physical store, that competition and type of promotion save consumers money. I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Playstation 5 for either SKU, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

So, it's actually not possible to walk into a store to buy a PS5 presently. I have seen the OLED Switch and Xbox Series S in stores, but not the Series X. And as I mentioned on a different video, scalpers are pretty bad here, too. Some online electronic stores have the Series S, but Series X seems to be temporarily sold out in most places. It seems like we'll just have to wait for 6 months to a year to see if these systems become more readily available. Also, the sales of games has been affected because people have such a difficult time finding these systems, so game sales are suffering to an extent as well.

It really feels like Sony has completely turned on Japan, at least in regards to PlayStation, and that really sucks since Japan is kinda Sony's home country which would kinda be like me saying that the US has always been the worst country in existence even though I've literally never been outside of the US in my life. I get that the US is probably Sony and PlayStation's biggest individual market, but the regions they're increasing the price in combined have probably made more profits from the PS5 than the US alone has, and it just seems like a slap in the face to those regions, especially Japan. The worst bit to me is that they're doing this and yet other than God of War in a couple months and a remake of a 9 year old game that most people who are interested in have already played, the whole last third of this year seems really sparse for Sony so far, and if they want to announce more games they'll have to do it before mid September if they want full hype cycles. The only exclusive game we know of after GoW is technically Forspoken but that's a third party timed exclusive that most people aren't too excited for, and the closest there'll be to a first party exclusive is FF16 which considering how 7 Remake has gone with its PC ports and console exclusivity.
Another thing is that it feels like Sony has a cycle in place now, with the PS3 they were way too cocky coming off of the PS2 and thought they could rule the world and then were devastated for most of that console generation, the PS4 they were humbled and made a great value console with solid games that killed the Xbox One, and now they think they're better than Xbox (not mentioning Nintendo, not only is the Switch a completely different ball of wax but it looks like the Switch is on track to be leagues above everything else with the potential of beating the PS2 for best selling console ever) and are being way too cocky again and now the PS5 is being messed up in all kinds of ways, whether Sony caused them or not. I can't help but think this is something of a pattern, although this is only the second time this has happened so who knows at this point. If it happens again it's absolutely a pattern and Sony needs to fix that.

I bought a launch PS5 for 1849 of our currency here in Poland, but the cheapest you can get it now is like 3400. It's in a bundle with 2 games, but that's still almost a 100% difference. Now that USD is much stronger the $70 game price translates to ~75 via direct conversion atm, but depending on the day it used to be $90-100 before the Ukrainian war. The '$60' games that I bought in the PS3 gen cost 189 here, in the PS4 gen they used to be 249(while still being @ the same price in the US), and now they're 339-359. The $10 price hike translates to an increase of ~17% in the US, but it's + ~90% compared to PS3 games, and + ~36-44% compared to PS4 games, here.
And they're surprised that every single PS5 Sony exclusive has underperformed, when that's the state of PS5 gaming outside of US? I certainly couldn't justify buying $100 games, so I haven't bought a single one since launch, and I've survived on PS+, my backlog, and PS5 upgrades, so far. Guess what, though? Sony has a solution for this, too - their digital games no longer go down in price as time goes by. You can find them on sales every now and then, but the savings are usually miniscule (10% max). And PS5 upgrades for Sony exclusives? They're behind a '$10" paywall now, while everyone else gives them out for free.
This is my last Sony console, and I still have a PS3, a PSP, a PS4, a PS VIta, and a PS5 at my home, all in working order.

It doesn't help that you can't just go to a store and buy a PS5 in Japan. Most stores you have to wait for a lottery, but a ticket and then hope you get called. Some stores even have necessary qualifications to get along with a lottery. Things like needing a store card with a certain amount spent at the store. Upping the price along with how difficult it is to get one without softening the blow with a free game or a year of PS Plus makes it really hard to want to buy one out here.

Right now, if you enjoy mostly playing Japanese Anime Waifu games, you either get it for the Switch, but if you want that high performance experience, you have to get a PlayUStation 5 or a high end PC.
