Seems to us that the Post Office should have held the item for him and he could pick it up at the Post Office.

I had that problem eBay backed me because it was a insufficient address. You had gas money, packaging and time invested in sending the package it is on the customer for having the right address. I would have blocked him as well.

  • @lisakay6742

You resend the package with the same label in the same packaging with a notice HOLD FOR PICKUP then he will get a notice to pick up at his local post office. Or he can fill out a form with usps to hold his mail if you are unable to. The USPS will likely help you if you go there in person. They should allow you to resend it with the hold for pickup notice at no extra cost! I would email the usps at least to ask them. They respond really quick, usually.

As a new seller, this just happened to me, haha. ebay should back you on this, and this is usually why most sellers do Buyer Paid Shipping. It's the responsibility of the buyer to make sure their address is correct or in a deliverable location, if not then it's up to the buyer to contact the post office and set a hold package to pick it up. Otherwise, the post office will send it back to the sender, and its the buyers issue that they messed up with address.
You have two legitimate options, 1: is what you did, refund minus shipping, relist, and they repurchase with correct or better address or 2: You can send them an invoice for a new shipping label and resend the item.
With buyer paid shipping, we protect ourselves, but if it was free shipping, we would eat that 12 dollar shipping.
I opt for option 1 as it's safer for me as a seller to resist and restart a new order within eBay. It sucks for the buyer, but you did your responsibilities by shipping based on the buyers' account details.

Just as a point of good information - I will only ship to Apartment or Office Building Addresses with a SIgnature Required. It costs the customer a few extra dollars... but the package either has to be signed for upon delivery, or... if the carrier could not deliver it, they'll leave a note for the buyer and the Local Post Office will have it available for them to come and pick up. (or they can arrange for it to be delivered when they are available to sign) It saves all of the types of problems you are dealing with ... especially if people work during the day and are not available to accept packages. I hope this helps for future shipping to Apartment or Office situations.

If the Buyer forgot the Apartment #, then that money is lost when it comes to the PO. The PO views it as the Customers Fault. If he forgot the Apt Number, it's his fault, and you are 100% correct to not refund him that.

If you block him, he cannot re-purchase it. I don't think that that is fair either. I shipped an item to Great Britain and it got shipped back to me. I did refund the buyer and the buyer did re-purchase even though it took almost three months to get the item back to me. It was a 3 inch miniature lace draped doll, very old. It turned out that the private postal service....eBay does not go with the Royal Mail, the most reliable mail service there, but contracts with a private shipping contractor that does not have a good reputation. The postal worker was a lazy one and put it in his truck to deliver and never did, just took it back to the main distribution center and said he had made 3 attempts to deliver. The buyer had had trouble with that guy before. Anyway, the buyer eventually got her order and is very pleased with it and with the extra mile I was willing to go.

USPS claims that packages will be del8vered in '2 to 5 days' if shipped with Ground Advantage. I have had several packages take 7-12 days because the USPS loses the item. No big surprise, since the USPS commissioner remarked, arrogantly, that their prices would increase while quality of service woukd decrease.

(In my 'umble opinion) I would vote that - unfortunately - it's the customer who would be responsible for the shipping charge because of the bad address. It could be that eBay does the customer a favor and refunds the customer without charging back to you, but who knows? I've had something similar happen before to a customer and eBay covered the loss to the customer. The upside if you get negative feedback is that at least it's just a "pie on the face" thing and (from everything I've heard from official eBay people, not "on the internet") won't count against your rating as a seller. They're seeing the feedback system as an old dinosaur that they used to use but they don't any longer. *My question is: "So why not just turn it off!" And if all else fails, the feedback scrolls off your account within 12 months anyway. Best of luck with that one!

I always setup my returns as buyer pays shipping, I do it as a deterrent from those that just have buyer’s remorse. I don’t think you’re in the wrong but do agree I’d feel bad for guy. I have had rare situations where something has broke in transit which is the only case where I’ll eat it, and just refund everything.

  • @LeePaste
    @LeePaste Год назад +1

The returned package is definitely NOT on you. First of all, "Insufficient Address" is not the same as "No Secure Location Available"! 2 totally different things. Insufficient Address means there is something wrong with the address and it can't be delivered to the address on the package. No Secure Location Available means just that.... No where to leave it safely (without the chance of someone stealing it). Saying all that, what the PO should have done if there was no secure location available to leave the package, they should have left a slip (inside the persons mailbox) saying that the customer had a package, but it couldn't be left "safely" and they need to contact the post office to receive it, whether that be in person or on the phone. "On Route" means that the carrier for that day (most likely not the regular carrier) has left the package on the route's desk or under the desk so the clerks will know where to find it if the customer comes in looking for it or calls wanting to know where they're package is! Again, YOU ARE NOT TO BLAME!!! You did nothing wrong, and you should not have to pay the postage...the customer needs to hash it out with the Post Office!!! Great video!

I had an order once that the customer did not receive. I checked the tracking and it said they refused. They insisted they did not. Eventually the package was marked "Return to sender". When it got back, I saw all these different notices attached or written on the box. For some reason the post office took it upon themselves to forward to package to a completely different person and address. Said person opened the package and apparently wasn't interested. Luckily when the package got back to me, the toy, Johnny Lightning Back to the Future Delorean, was still in the same condition as it was when it left. I refunded the customer and relisted the item. Eventually it sold again so all is well.

Between the buyer and I we decided to see if the post office would resend the package back to him at the same address and then he be there at the time it would be delivered😮 it worked out he, like your guy said he had had many packages delivered to that address before. They did allow me to send it back to him at the same address for free so that maybe something you want to look into

I mailed a couple of cards to my sister-in-law who spends the winter in Florida. They got returned to me with “No such address” written on it. I had mailed many items to the same address previously and she received them. I took a picture of the address and texted it to her. She said I had the correct address. I don’t know why they returned it. It’s a puzzle.

NY USPS is the problem... I've heard nothing but nightmares about packages being sent into crime ridden areas so bad that would make a third world nation thumb their noses upon if offered a trip there... Others might have a vicious dog warning (this actually started last year) and it's in that neighborhood... It's a weird enough area that if you don't take the right exit...you could be lost for months...
