Peace is only a pause before reloading. In this senario, Earth would need to enlist the help of Other Races being abused by the Galactic regime.

I would make the excuse that the Earth needs to consolidate the competing nations into a single, fully governing organization before an answer can be given to the Galactic Council’s ultimatum. Dare the Council to attack a planet that acknowledges not being ready for membership. All the while build defensive capabilities secretly, hiding offensive capabilities even more. Delay. Delay. Delay. Using the time to focus globally on 100% industrial productivity, logistics preparations, and military training.

submit or die doesn't seem to work with us does it? well unless your french but they can be forgiven all their best fighting words are the worse ones in others languages such as surrender, retreat and my fav. parlay. yes they created attack too but the word means stick in frankish so take it for what it is for the frenchies.

So the only time damage to infrastructure was mentioned is after the battles. During the battles which seemed to only take place in space damage to earth's infrastructure was never mentioned. On the contrary, we repulsed the attack and then attacked council ships far from earth. Consistency matters

infrastructure of earth can refer to complexes and such in orbit even those on the moon or mars could be seen as part of earth's infrastructure. also if you want a full bodied sci-fi story read a honor harrington series book by david weber.

No mention of Terran colonies, so a single-system civilization fought off a galactic power consisting of AT LEAST a dozen star systems? I'm not buying it.

And yet the American colonies did so against the British Imperial Empire with just farmers and fishermen

No. The British Empire in 1776 was maybe 5x the size of the American colonies in terms of land area. The British forces in America also did not significantly outnumber the Continental Army in any single battle after 1778. Further, the British military was not significantly more advanced technologically than your 'farmers and fishermen' AND were fighting at the end of a supply chain that took weeks and sometimes months to traverse. Lastly, Earth's counterattack had to cross BILLIONS of miles of essentially empty space and the GCs didn't see them coming til the last minute? Tripe and hogwash.
This story is just badly written. Likely Chat GPT or some other bot.
You've been listening to too many 'humans are space orcs' stories.
