Technically it's not a belt that he uses up there. He uses a mixed voice and I find that in a mixed register you can't crack and my theory is is because you are already using the falsetto with your chest voice. I feel that cracks are just your chest quickly switching to your falsetto because your chest can't go any higher

I don't know anything about music but was wondering if someone could tell me why it seems like bruno "strains" (not sure what other word to use) at the top of his range but his falsetto notes seem to just come out easier would falsetto be harder to hit just curious
Falsetto is easier to hit as you are using more of your nose than your mouth to form the notes

She should learn to keep an open throat above C#5 because most of his belts from D5 and up are strained and tense. But other that that he sounds great and is an amazing singer
RyderC Daniels I personally think the tense belting starts as low as an A4 for him, he just has the ease and light lyric sound for it to not be as noticeable. He has such a high voice that his upper fourth octave belts should be much better as far as resonance goes
MikeJMCarey93 yes I agree the tension does start a lot lower the around A4 & Bb4 area. But he isn't vocally trained so I guess I wouldn't expect his technique to great.

I personally dont think its possible to hit chest over a4 without squekimg it out. Only "unconstrained" higher would be falsetto and head. If you have a good example of someone who does it better pls tell me so i can listen it

Med Sing he's not a leggiero and his agility is only slightly above average. He is a light lyric tenor. Leggiero is a classical term that is basically the male version of a coloratura soprano. A leggiero basically has unparalleled vocal agility throughout their entires ranges being able to do complex vocal runs, riffs, trills, flawless transitions, & their ranges must be completely connected. Bruno Mars is just a slightly agile light-lyric tenor, his lows are weak, and belting becomes tense/strained above C#5/D5 notes. Nothing about his voice says leggiero at ALL. Brian McKnight, Avery Wilson, Tonex, and even Stevie Wonder a PERFECT example of what a leggiero Tenor sounds like not Bruno mars hope that helps.
RyderC Daniels Thanks for this amazing reply. I completely agree with his agility which is nowhere near the level of Brian, Tonex or Stevie. I enjoy him a lot as an artist and his tone is extremely pleasant and unique, however he is not what I would call a great vocalist. On another note, would you classify Wanya Morris from Boyz 2 Men as a leggiero? He is one of my biggest influence, his tone is somewhat dark in his belting register, mostly because of his mask / cry placement, but can easily reach resonant, bright and powerful E5 as well.
Med Sing Yes Wanya Morris is definitely a Leggiero Tenor and a very skilled one I might add lol. Also I like Bruno mars's voice as well and I agree he is a great singer but as a vocalist he could use some work.

In terms of lyricism and experimentation, The Weeknd n Frank Ocean are definitely better. But in terms of vocal and performance, that's where Bruno shines. Bruno makes very simple songs that are even better live. I think that is his charm.
