Pumped about your setup. Have you thought of using usb vs coax into the minidsp helix? It’s a neat feature of that vs the cdsp 8x12. Thank you for the deep dive I hope you find the time to post your thoughts on the setup. I am interested in the 360 view, audio quality, and dvr. I hope android doesn’t mess with the output even over coax or spdif have seen some setups that the internal dsp does still effect the signal out of the digital outputs as well.
Hey Derek, the DSP I have is a MiniDSP Harmony 8x12. I was looking at Helix options, but they don't support DIRAC or FIR filters. Being an audio junkie, these were important to me in a high-end DSP. Both the Helix options as well as MiniDSP support USB HEC audio. My MiniDSP supports up to 6 channels. You're correct that Android doesn't always like to play nicely at the OS/root level with digital audio outputs, so we'll have to see how that pans out (I'll definitely be doing a future video). If I can get the 6 discrete channels out via USB, I plan to route them to 6 virtual/digital ins on the DSP, which will feed the following outs (ins 1/2: front 3-ways, ins 3/4: rear fills, in 5: sub, in 6: blank). This way I can have separate control over fronts, rears and sub on my HU, closer to what you'd find in a stock system. This will be in addition to presets I can select from via the Harmony DSP wired remote. For a deep dive into the specifics of sampling rate and others pros and cons of USB HEC audio vs coaxial or optical digital audio out, I posted a thread specifically about that on DIYMA. Ive just bought this same unit and the dvr dashcam that comes with the rear camera, the thing is that the rear camera that comes with dashcam is for recording whats going on behind you. So can it be installed along side the 360 system 🤔
Interestingly, there's another store, EKIY Global Store that sells a KK3 with a different UI, appears to be same owners as the Official store that sells the T7 (Joying - ugliest imo), there's a 3rd store EKIY AutoRadio that yet have another model T900 with different UI (Teye's inspired*)
I wish I didn't find this out: EKIY Global store, sells the same units under a different type name for a lower price. So now I'm asking price difference back from EKIY Official Store.... I ordered D7 from official store, which sadly hasn't arrived yet. But just find out, in Global Store they call it KK2. But of course it's the same.
Some other brand models reverse plug must plug in unit even if you don't connect rear view camera because the short two yellow wires are some kind of antenna I don't remember but you will loss WiFi or Bluetooth connection or will be very weak.😅
Ekiy using Joying Firmware which is quite poor you can't even turn on button lights via menu system ,wireless CarPlay has constant cut offs and CarPlay screen gets pixellated overall I do not recommend anyone Ekiy ...wish Teyes CC3 was a bit cheaper seems like its the most polished FYT unit so far .Thanks for the video P.s Orange ILL wire to ACC if you would like to turn on the Button LEDs :)
Thanks for the tip. So the only way to get button backlight on is by hardwiring the orange ILL wire to ACC? I may install a switch cause I have some laying around. Honestly, I'm not too worried about lighted buttons, but it'd be nice to have. Also, don't care about CarPlay at all. Apple is notorious for not playing nicely with other operating systems or platforms, it's one reason I don't own any Apple products, and probably never will. I wouldn't expect any less from Apple regarding a generic Android based HU. That said, I would like Android Auto to work, at least eventually (firmware update) to extend the usable life of the HU (even after it's antiquated, it can function as a gateway for a brand new phone running all the latest and greatest). I've heard great things about the Joying HU, so that could be a positive if they're using Joying firmware....it could certainly be worse than Joying. I understand Joying does lots of updates and is kind of the "name brand" of these FYT HU's (along with Teyes). I'd like to avoid having to root this thing if I can, so I can probably live with Joying firmware for the time being. Unless you have other suggestions that work? I've heard it's very hard to root these new HU's.

Hi, great video, I have a question. I managed to tight GPS antenna too much and hear crack. it is working but i would like to solder it back. do you know how to do it? is it difficult? Also is it difficult to open the EKIY unit?
Hi mate. I have a similar android unit installed in my Ford Fiesta MK7 2009 model. I bought it from a seller in aliexpress, its not EKIY but from my research the looks and the UI is excactly the same. Everything work fine except the steering wheel buttons. I did some troubleshooting and to sort this out i need to check the wirings. Unfortunately, the unit didnt come with installation instructions and wiring diagrams and the seller does not reply to my messages. If you have, could you please share with me any installation manual and wiring diagrams? Thanks is advance.
Sorry man, I don't have any. My unit came with practically zero documentation, it was all online. Sadly, you may be out of luck if the seller won't reply. This is one of the big reasons to go with a brand like EKIY who, at least currently, has excellent customer service and will answer this kind of question. I'm guessing you could message EKIY and ask how to do it on THEIR head unit, and there's a strong chance that procedure/wiring MIGHT work for your implementation, but it's risky. If you connect the wrong wire to the wrong place, you could easily screw something up. ECU's are expensive. Sorry, wish I could be of more help. Good luck!
I know this is a year+ old, but hope someone will see this. I have been messaging back and forth with EKIY about installing a 10" T7 8G 128G in a flat panel in my RV. They refuse to work with me in any way and have asked me not to order. They claim their unit can't be mounted in a flat panel and won't even answer my questions about mounting locations for the cameras, extension cables, how many TPMS sensors can be supported, etc. I'm glad they helped Mr. Kolpack, but they have been completely unhelpful with my proposed installation.
I like how you live in your own world complete with your own take on words @evankolpack. 🤣🤣🤣 Not a very useful comment, but I stayed to the end of the video. I'm now headed outside. 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Evan! I bought this HU for my renegade but the firmware came with a birdseye app called 360 panorama, and is not working with my car's stock rear camera... Do you know if I can connect the rear camera alone into one of the pins in the birdseye plug? And if so, do you know which pin do I have to use? Thanks a lot 👍👍
As long as your rear camera uses the same format (I believe these use component video, which is usually a yellow RCA plug) then you should be able to do exactly that. EKIY should be able to tell you which pin is for the rear bird's-eye camera, but it should also be on your wiring harness too. You should have one pair of wires + a trigger wire labeled in the online manual as for the rear camera.
Did you hook up the trigger wire to the correct place on the main harness? Verify it's getting +12v for your reverse lights? On my implementation the reverse trigger wire is right next to the main 12 +/- wire, but check yours.
@evankolpack it was installed by professional radio installer and they said they did connect it with reverse tail light . My worry is that ekiy and even Saab unleashed RUclips video said the rear dash cam can do both reverse trigger on screen and recording, this may be not be true but I looked at another android unit mekede dashcam rearwhich also claims it does both. I wanted to get wiring diagram
I've just installed a similar unit on my 2010 Venza. But.... When I turn the car on (not the engine) the unit is working. But when I hit the ignition the unit powers off. Do you know what the issue might be? After I saw the problem I disconnected everything but the power cable (second harness with RCA, 4g, GPS, etc.), to test and the problem remains.
It could be many things, but I'd obviously verify 110% that the IGN power is wired correctly and actually receiving voltage. I'd also verify that the ground pin on the unit has a good low resistance path to vehicle ground on the body/frame/engine block. It could be some other external system causing it to shut down, but most likely it's a power and/or wiring and/or ground problem.
@@evankolpack Thank you Even....I was looking at IGN power and wondering if some harness/adapter wires were wrong...But, I heard back from EKIY saying the steering wheel buttons wires are going to two plugs and I should cut one of them. Thanks for your reply. Appreciate it!
