I don't think he's one of the best, I most definitely disagree. He was good during his time but for him to get any recognition he'd have to put his body through hell. He was not known for his in ring savvy

I wish this interview had gone on for longer this was just an insight into a truly humble down to earth honest and caring family man, I have the most respect for Mick Foley out of any wrestler for the fact that he has given so much to the wrestling industry so selflessly and doesn't have a bad word to say about anybody.
He’s one of the first wrestlers I met and absolutely one of the kindest. I watched him drop a duffle bag on the way to his car, dig through his gear for a sharpie marker all to sign autographs for strangers in a parking lot. They had a marker but he realized it was washable and wanted to do them one better. Anybody else would’ve just signed and kept moving or said “sorry I’m in a rush” and moved on. He’s the real deal. Very nice and articulate. I’m sure I don’t agree with everything the guy thinks politically but that doesn’t matter. People are individuals and he’s a very articulate guy.
Mick is phenomenal. He was never really hugely athletic (well he never looked it) yet he could put on a great match and take serious bumps while also portraying brilliant character/gimmicks and on top of that he is extremely intelligent and a brilliant writer. Oh and he's an extremely nice guy :)
I love him so much. Believe it or not, my favorite angle of his was being Commissioner and having DEBRA as his Lt. Commissioner. They complimented each other so well, and made such a great team ! Mick would be a great team with anyone though, he's such a stand up guy and talented athlete and performer.
Lord. Hogan will never be gone. If he can get back in the HOF after everything he's done. He's life..... brother. And yes I know this was done years ago
"Are entertainers like you protected enough by the sport? That, my friends, is the million-dollar question, and if anyone in wrestling had bothered to take it seriously at this time, Benoit and his family would still be alive. You know he's an amazing nice down to earth person when even Jim Cornette says you're the nicest guy in the wrestling business and Cornett hates everyone when even Jim says he's first class human being that's saying a lot about the person Mick Foley is
After hearing what he says here it's crazy to think of the matches he was in after it. The Street Fight with HHH at Royal Rumble 2000, the Hell in a Cell with HHH at No way out etc.
Mick has always said he doesnt LOVE to get hurt. He LOVES to entertain. He doesnt LOVE pain, he's not used to it. It's about doing whatever it takes. To leave it all out there. He loves wrestling. He loves his fans. He's an amazing humanitarian. Giving so much to benefits and childrens hospitals
You guys that believe that this and the HIAC match at No Way Out 2000 were depressing disappointments are looking at it the wrong way. Mick did retire from full-time competition and road traveling. The note to keep in mind is that the wresting industry is a never say never place, and this has been established many times by different performers. Foley didn't go back on his word as badly as it is painted to be by some individuals.
Sometimes I just ask myself why he put himself through so much abuse. I mean yeah as a fan I liked seeing it but as a human being its almost like he didnt need to put himself through so much. I respect the hell out of Mick Foley and thank him for entertaining me for many years.
its almost depressing to watch this interview knowing the future, that mick wouldn't retire. to hear what he was experience and now knowing that he has put himself through twice as much. Just like the wrestler it becomes and addiction and nothing else they can do.
he said he would not be a regular (week by week) wrestler. He had some matches, he had a little run in TNA and that's it. But when you love this business so much you can never actually retire. When you love something so much you will never let go 100 percent. And i must tell you he had good matches after his retirement. See the matches against Orton or Edge. When you retire, in that moment you say it's for real, but after a period you start missing it. Only if you have passion.
funny thing abt this interview where Foley talks abt retirement or close to it.. and if i remember correctly he did sort of retire.. but couple years later he has even more of a hardcore match with EDGE where Mick goes through a flaming table at WM.. and another one with Orton where he goes through HELL with tumb tacks and barbed wire tables... non the less Foley is one tough SOB..
If he is this articulate with words while being cognitively on the decline due to extreme stunts and headshots, he would be as smart as Stephen Hawking or Niel Tyson DeGrasse if he didn't enter the magical world of Pro Wrestling
I wonder if he's going to be writing more fiction. I hope he isn't wrestling now because if he became permanently injured, such as brain damage or something, the world would lose a really nice guy and an excellent novelist. He has a way with words and character development that I think most writers should envy. However good an entertainer he is, he is an even better writer
That King of the Ring 1999 match between Foley and The Rock, was the only match that I got personally offended. It was too F’d up. Even ECW never pissed me off that bad. I genuinely was upset at the Rock, because you could tell Foley was getting f’d up for real.
You're actually quite wrong, Mick has stated in quite a few interviews that he doesn't love pain, he is just willing to push himself so much further to get a reaction from the crowd.
That's not the real reason why. The Benoit double-murder-suicide happened in 2007. WWE went PG in 2009. They were also PG before the Attitude Era. They went back to the PG direction because they get bigger advertisers like K-Mart and Mattel now when before their biggest sponsor was Castrol GTX.
