@@bartuce6806 You're right. But, he is playing the tom for convenience and maybe doesn't own brushes. Lol! Sounded good, though. Great tune. He did a good job.
I am a beginner drummer and only know a few songs. But I wanted to learn this song, and I know this isn’t a tutorial video but I memorized every movement you did and now I’m happy to say I know how to play the full song ! Thank you so much !
This song was the theme song for our wedding. I'm trying to learn it to impress my wife. Great video, great cover and thanks for the help... btw, I'm a rocker but I absolutely love jazz, saw the Glenn Miller Orchestra last year and it was amazing.
Yeah. Joe is an excellent technician, and yet he DELIBERATELY did not put too much drumming "gravy" on this-- as some drummers tend to do. There is no reason for him to try to overplay and upstage the vocalist! We already know that Joe is a fine player. He is not trying to prove anything. He does not need to. As a singer as well as drummer, and drumming instructor myself; I really appreciate Joe's impeccable taste, thoughtfulness, and overall true musicality. I applaud him. Joe Nocella is a superb player by anyone's judgement.
Hey Joe! Thanks for the kind words. As you said, I just play for the music, not for me. A good drummer should always drive and compliment the music. I picked up a gig next month with a Billy Joel tribute band - Cold Spring Harbor band. Looking forward to it. I just did a quick lesson from the Ted Reed book for my students. As a teacher, you should appreciate it. Check it out - ruclips.net/video/j_ALjPj928k/видео.html
Excellent . Serious good groove and jam session . Next one on my list to learn after watching your version. Nothing better than listening to Frank on a Sat. night.
Thanks! I like the way Irv Cottler went back and forth between the rim click and snare hits. I'd like to do more Sinatra tunes..Hopefully they won't get blocked the way Warner Bros blocks Led Zeppelin..
Fantastic. Great knowledge of the song. Every little note played at the right time. It is the third time I watched always delighted. Congratulations man.
i love the way you kinda scraped the snare drum between hits, whether it was intentional or not i use it in my play through a now and it’s a nice touch
It's something I do sometimes just to swing along in time. It's nothing I've given a lot of thought to but I'm glad it helps you. Thanks for watching & enjoying my playing!
Wow! Great feel, technique, dynamics. Who needs a 10 piece kit? If its swinging , and you are laying it down and staying out of the way, your job is done! You make it look so effortless.
I met Irv Cottler in 1973 once at Murrieta Hot Springs, where he was vacationing. I was playing a gig there. He was really nice to me. He invited me to Vegas to hear Sinatra as his guest. I wish I could go back to those days because I was seeing a really hot chick then!
This is from the second Sinatra-Basie studio collaboration (It Might As Well Be Swing). This is actually Sonny Payne on drums. Cottler is on almost all of the non-Basie stuff though and one of my favorite drummers!
Irv Cottler, Joe Morello, Buddy, Louie, all the greats were my inspritation for playing drums. They were all really nice guys. It seems drummers in general are pretty nice people. It's probably because they are happy that they are doing what they love to do..I saw Sinatra at Radio City and Atlantic City. He was great as always.
Hi im a high school student doing a project non-profit i was wondering if i could use your video in it it's only 4 minutes long it would really help me out
Nice and smooth. I never knew that song started on the tom that way. Interesting.
i think its played with brushes on the snare in the original
@@bartuce6806 You're right. But, he is playing the tom for convenience and maybe doesn't own brushes. Lol! Sounded good, though. Great tune. He did a good job.
He should purchase some then 😂

Glad it helped you. Good luck with your drumming.
Get used to it brother, not a lot of drum tutorials for some reason. Nice to start being able to learn stuff by ear though

At 1:17 there is a hit that doesn't seem to sync up with the video. I have watched video this over and over and I can't get enough!!!! Great job!!!!

Good Job
Very smooth. Great sounding cyms..... 🤣
Thanks
Wow that was amazing what snare do you use? it sounds so good!
Thanks. The snare is a 6.5" Ludwig Black Beauty. All of the equipment is listed in the description.
you are correct sir..I changed the description. Thanks
Thanks! ..same to you
I prefer it as a lounge song, not a big band extravaganza, but thanks for the upload. I needed to see the drum BPM.
thanks!
thanks alot
Does this song had like no bass drum?
It's a jazz tune, so the bass drum is feathered, meaning it's more felt than heard
Perfect! Can you provide sheets of this version?
I do not have sheets for this tune..
Tremors make magic. Keep tempo. Keep the band going. There is a backbone.
I would have used the floor tom for the TomTom buildups.
I hear you but the recording sounds like a higher pitched tom.
Bro, what arrange it is?
In all due respect, it doesn’t have to begin on Tom, could ride on the hi hat into ride and rim shots. Good play for this Gentleman.
If you listen closely, the beginning sounds very much like a brush on a tom. It's not a snare. It's not a cymbal. It's not a bass drum. It's a tom.
