In my opinion, Ricardo Lopez is the most technical, most skillful, and smartest fighter that i have ever seen. He fought the top guys of his weight division during those those days. This man was a complete fighter. He has the power, speed, great head and waist movement, great timing, great accuracy, and very good technique. Lopez was just the closest thing to perfection that i have ever seen.
Jonathan Santos Salvador Sanchez was also a phenomenal fighter. One of my favorites as well. He also fought the best in his weightclass, for example Lopez,Nelson, and Gomez. R.I.P Salvador Sanchez.
Did he fight Mark "Too sharp" Johnson? No. That was the Floyd Mayweather at Lopez' weight... I like Ricardo Lopez, btw, just clarifying... Just like Tyson never fought Riddick Bowe and Leonard never fought Aaron Pryor... Be careful with the "He fought everybody" thing. . There are only like 3 people in the last 50 years you can say that about... Ali, Duran, Cotto.
And integrity and sportsmanship in and out of the ring. He could have been a trash talker with talent to back it up, but he chose to be humble and that's why his place in the boxing hall of fame is well earned, but also well deserved.
Also his humbleness puts him even higher. He's now a sports commentator and a motivational speaker that says that we are all star dust and we can reach our greatest potential if we try hard enough
naturalselector85 You don't know nothing about boxing or you're less then 40 years old and never saw the great Ricardo Lopez either way that is ridiculous!!!
Ricardo Lopez is the best pound for pound boxer of all time: *52-0 professional record with one draw (38 KO's--73%) *37-1 amateur record (some say 40-0) *21 Title Defenses spanning 11 years *WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF Champion *Most consecutive title bouts without a loss (26) *One of three champions to retire undefeated *Only champion to retire as an undefeated amateur and undefeated pro *More undefeated fights than Mayweather and Marciano Plus the best boxing skills you will ever see (both offense and defense) and a really humble guy with no ego.
+truthsave Fair enough, but remember, Mayweather had 6 amateur losses while Lopez had none (or maybe 1 when he was 16). Also, Mayweather only knocked out 53% of his opponents while Lopez had a 73% knock out percentage and Lopez is only 105 lbs! Lopez was an aggressive fighter who was not afraid to mix it up in the ring and didn't rely on his defense to win on points, like Mayweather. Finally, Mayweather, to his credit, had titles in multiple weight divisions but would have be virtually impossible for a little guy like Lopez who is only 5'5" and 105 lbs.
primovid I hear you Ricardo López was a hell of a fighter, Mayweather.was a aggressive fighter earlier in his career but I think he saw the effect of getting hit to much, first hand from his uncle and father and he turned into a defensive fighter and that Make's sense to me...lol That five weight division is very impressive to me. Do you know why Lopez didn't go to the Olympics ?
It amazes me how Ricardo Lopez never lost like it seemed like he's from the future since nobody could give him a challenge accept that 1 draw Ricardo may been better than any boxer in history of all weight classes
This guy did everything right. The perfect boxer puncher. His technique was flawless and textbook. A young juan manuel marquez reminds me of him. Both trained by nacho berestain. The only difference between him and marquez is that he didn't get hit as much as marquez. But both flawless boxers. Viva el finito
For those of you who have seen Hajime No Ippo and want to find where the creators got the inspiration for "Ricardo Martinez'" and his boxing style during the fight against Date Eiji, it can be found in min 1:05. In the manga/anime, at the start of the third round, Ricardo returns to his original boxing style and supresses Eiji Date with a barrage of punches. Whenever Eiji wanted to make an attack of his own during that barrage of punches, he would quickly get punched in the face 2 or 3 times by Ricardo. This is very similar to what we see in min 1:05
"El Finito" ="The swift one" Is a perfect example that shows that being a great technical boxer doesn't mean you have to be a runner or be a boring fighter.
***** Fino literally means something "of high quality" but in Mexican slang we also use it to describe something or someone swift ... either way you're way off lol
***** Dude,El terminador or El Acavador means "the finisher" you're not even Mexican so you don't know our slang. You have no clue what you are talking about. lol
***** Don't believe everything you read on the internet they got it wrong on wikipedia ..."el finito does" not mean "the finisher" fino=of high quality el finito=the high quality little one or the swift little one (in slang) the finisher=el terminador or el acavador
What an amazing fighter this guy was beautiful to watch. He could do everything in the ring. His downfall was he fought at minimum weight straw weight and things like that so u didn't see him much. But you know he was special because in today's Era of boxing u never those see weight classes on ppv undercards today. And I remember ricardo lopez being on the undercards of some big events.
jose soto you're right ✅ 👏 Lopez was in two unfashionable weight divisions THAT'S why he never got the recognition he so thoroughly deserved one of the greatest fighters of all time 😀
chavez is my favorite boxer of all time, but finito is the best boxer that ever lived in my opinion, gives me goosebumps juat watching him. i met them both.
Now this here is the true definition of the so called "sweet science"... Not like the fighters now a days that land two jabs per round and run circles around the ring.... 70's, 80's n maybe early 90's golden age in boxing...
Most complete fight ever great defensively and has good power, good body shots and could put together good combos a true great if he was a heavyweight he would be recognized as one of best ever
YESS thank you!! when reviewing a lot of Finito's great fighters one develops certain defensive and offensive patterns he executes brilliantly and then you go watch fighters like Marquez and other Berenstein's prospects and you see the similarities of the style. If Marquez is a professor of boxing, Finito Lopez has to be the muse that inspired the professor.
Have you guys watched the anime "Ippo No Hajime?" Your comments kinda reminded me of a piece of dialogue during the fight between the main character and the Mexican champion, Ricardo Martinez, which was a character inspired on Ricardo Lopez. In this piece of dialogue, they highlight how Mexican punches reach farther than you think and catch you by surprise....It's funny because the japanese creators actually thought the same way as you do...."How did he hit him? He was so far away from him!"
Asesino217 Thanks for mentioning it. Hajime No Ippo is a pretty cool Japanese anime. I like the fact that the character Ricardo Martinez is a boxer with integrity and sportsmanship, just like Finito Lopez was in and out of the ring.
MrTachyon3000 Did you know about the anime beforehand? I also think it's pretty cool :) And though he doesn't appear much, Ricardo Martinez is my favorite character :) He humiliates Ippo in the sparring and he destroys Date Eiji (the latter is one of my favorite fights in the anime)
Asesino217 Months ago someone mentioned it and I checked it out. I suspect some anime fans watching also find out about Finito Lopez there and then come here to see his boxing.
YO! I just watched a interview with trainer Robert Garcia and he said he was possibly Mexico's best fighter, I heard Mayweather even mention him before so I decided to watch him.... Whoa this guy is extremely underrated! fuck one of the best Mexican fighters? he is probably one of the best fighters PERIOD! If you want to be a technically great boxer I can honestly say look no further than this guy! pure skillz!
bro, i couldn't agree more.. He is my favorite Mexican fighter of all time. beating Chavez. Guys like Chavez, and Sal Sanchez, and even Carlos Zarate; these guys were tough, just naturally built tough( in the case of Sanchez a lot more gifted than Chavez and Zarate) so they could never really heir any of their teaching to future generaions however, Finito lopez, he was not only built tough, but he had incredible knockout power in his hands. He was so technical both defensively and when letting his hands go it was beautiful. His defense can still be seen in some of Berenstein's up in coming fighters.
I agree I have him at number one. Mexico has a bag of fighters that can be at that spot thou. Ruben Olivares, Chavez, Finito and Sanchez man! Sanchez was a beast too.
his technique is just amazing.. his punching even those that missed were so crisp...non of that awkward punching going around... true master of his profession.
And people think Floyd Mayweather's record is impressive.. lol funny thing is mayweather isn't "undefeated" he's actually been defeated 6 times in his amateur boxing career.. haha as for Ricardo Lopez he's never tasted defeat, not even in his amateur career.. one of boxings goats that's for sure..
Esta bien chingon este video de uno de los mejores pugiles de toda la historia del box tenia rapidez, mucho punching power,y era un excelente técnico para mi fue un boxeador casi perfecto, ojalá que algun dia México de otro gran campeón como el finito lopez.
Lol we know now at least ippo will have a chance later when he gets better as the manga continues because ippo even fought a guy that date never wanted to face and ippo defended his Japanese featherweight title against him
many that never made it to the list but it amazes me Heavy weight boxers were rank before him and this guy is a featherweight and no. #1 is Joe Frazier
I respect Mayweather's skills but he would have been destroyed by the likes of Aaron Pryor. El Finito would have probably had difficulty being a much smaller man but he was still far superior to anyone Floyd has ever faced.
Great fighter no question. Robert Garcia says some very complimentary things in an interview when he is questioned about Rigondeaux. The only thing I don't understand is why people can't look at a great fighter from the past without bringing Mayweather's name in the conversation. Can't you just appreciate this man's skills and leave it at that.
soloM81 My bad man I meant to say that I saw an interview where Robert Garcia said in his opinion that Ricardo Lopez was the most skilled Mexican fighter ever. That's obviously his opinion and people are free to disagree but that has nothing to do with Rigondeaux so my mistake for typing the wrong name. Must have had Rigoneaux on the brain lol.
He's great for sure but I personally think the greatest Mexican we ever saw was Salvador Sanchez that mans stamina and chin was just crazy we will never see it again and only fought to the age of 23 sadly passed away RIP sal.

The technique Finito uses can actually still be seen by Berenstein's fighters. Including Juan Manuel Marquez.
Ricardo "Finito" Lopez is a legend. The "Greatest Strawweight and Light Flyweight Champion Ever" according to the Houston Boxing Hall of Fame, which is a voting body composed entirely of current and former fighters. But don't say Mayweather is a backyard fighter or weak. You don't have to put down one legendary boxer to uplift another. Finito is a legend, and (even if you don't like his overly defensive style) Mayweather is too.
Much respect for Ricardo Lopez. Hes a great fighter, very good boxing skills and very good footwork. But i dont think he's undefeated. He was viciously knocked down by a dynamite overhead right hand by Rosendo Alvarez in the 2nd round of their first fight. Ricardo got hurt many times in that first fight. I think that first fight shouldnt have been a draw. I think Rosendo Alvarez should have won that first fight.
Aún que les pese a muchos ,el finito ,el mejor boxeador fino ,y además ponchador, nokeaba, con un puro golpe ,lo que no acia ,ni Chaves ,para mi el mejor ,FINITO
I agree, what do you think about Salvador Sanchez another one of my favorite fighters
totally agreeeeeeeee
Jonathan Santos Salvador Sanchez was also a phenomenal fighter. One of my favorites as well. He also fought the best in his weightclass, for example Lopez,Nelson, and Gomez. R.I.P Salvador Sanchez.
Darknightdriver1 I agree two of my favorite boxers of all time.

The most complete boxer ever. Super speed, super power, super technical, steel chin, steel hands, and Mexican.
And integrity and sportsmanship in and out of the ring. He could have been a trash talker with talent to back it up, but he chose to be humble and that's why his place in the boxing hall of fame is well earned, but also well deserved.

Ricardo Lopez most definitely top 10 boxer list of all time. What a amazing boxer.
Absolutely!!!!
not even close lmao...not even top 100
naturalselector85
You don't know nothing about boxing or you're less then 40 years old and never saw the great Ricardo Lopez either way that is ridiculous!!!
naturalselector85 fuck u fucking hater he's definitely a top 5 on my book!
Rodageado he fought bums in the weakest weight class
Lopez was the package -- skill, power, speed and ring generalship. Best I ever saw
Mi boxeador preferido junto con Pacquiao, saludos de Chile, con cariño!
+bastian smith saldaña Saludos desde México, hermano.
mexicanos siempre con huevos viva mexico cabrones
Look at that foot movement and balance, it sets up the punches so well, everything stems from the good foundation. LEGEND.
Ricardo Lopez is the best pound for pound boxer of all time:
*52-0 professional record with one draw (38 KO's--73%)
*37-1 amateur record (some say 40-0)
*21 Title Defenses spanning 11 years
*WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF Champion
*Most consecutive title bouts without a loss (26)
*One of three champions to retire undefeated
*Only champion to retire as an undefeated amateur and undefeated pro
*More undefeated fights than Mayweather and Marciano
Plus the best boxing skills you will ever see (both offense and defense) and a really humble guy with no ego.
He was undefeated in his amateur career as well dude
agree
Taking nothing from this fighter but Floyd Won world titles in 5 division. And this guy had a draw so not in my opinion.

He went to each country to fight the best in his division
And never lost
If Lopez had of been a welterweight or a middleweight, my goodness the world would have know his name. What skills...a perfect craftsman.

Finito Lopez was not a brawler, he was a boxer. It's just that he had hands of steel.
That is the real TBE bro.
0:57 did you fukin see dat omg counter uppercut? wtf genius
+Vin K Not only dad, it looked like it had a delayed effect XD
+Ch1Frequency he didn't even know what hit him lol
V K beautiful!
Finito Lopez is Marquez's sensei. Both badass fighters!
He has some awkward as hell punches. The uppercut at 1:35 took me by surprise its almost like his arms stretch.
I know what you mean. Some punches I couldn't believe hit their target, because he was pretty far.
Have you guys watched the anime "Ippo No Hajime?" A COMPLETE FIGHTER - "EL FINITO" Ricardo Lopez Trained by Legendary "NACHO!"
He was trained by Cullo Hernandez first! The last by Cullo Hernandez!
Akuma X Lol! Correct name and spelling is Arturo "Cuyo" Hernandez. Culo is the other word you are thinking of
He's real Master was Arturo «El Cuyo» Hernandez: the best Mexican trainer of all time.
+xXP1LLZxX "amateur" lol how many UNDEFEATED amateur's do you know? We talking about the pro's.
AHMED HERSI still my point stands, mayweather can't be "undefeated" if he lost six times..
xXP1LLZxX Are you a troll or just ignorant? Undefeated as a PRO not as an amateur.
AHMED HERSI everyone is always saying he's undefeated, yet they don't even know he lost six times before..
xXP1LLZxX TROLL.
ricardo martinez from knockout anime brought me here! :)))
what a class act, a true champion, wish boxing had some like him now
un maestro en el ring
Awesome and definitely in the top 10
Esta bien chingon este video de uno de los mejores pugiles de toda la historia del box tenia rapidez, mucho punching power,y era un excelente técnico para mi fue un boxeador casi perfecto, ojalá que algun dia México de otro gran campeón como el finito lopez.

Finito Lopez a master boxer in the art of combat, the best Mexico has ever produced,
even Ippo and Date did not win against this guy! So gooooood!!
Lol we know now at least ippo will have a chance later when he gets better as the manga continues because ippo even fought a guy that date never wanted to face and ippo defended his Japanese featherweight title against him

AWESOME
beautiful style
Undefeated as pro and amateur the master of distance control
So great he was made into an anime/manga -> Hajime no Ippo -> -> character name Ricardo Martinaz
A true surgeon ATG
This guy was undefeated as a ammeter as well
and whats the song! sounds like a remix.. sorry for comment spam
Can't you just appreciate this man's skills and leave it at that.
what does Robert Garcia have to do with Ricardo, why are you talking about Rigondeaux
soloM81 My bad man I meant to say that I saw an interview where Robert Garcia said in his opinion that Ricardo Lopez was the most skilled Mexican fighter ever. That's obviously his opinion and people are free to disagree but that has nothing to do with Rigondeaux so my mistake for typing the wrong name. Must have had Rigoneaux on the brain lol.
JediKnight1007 OK, but don't do it again....
This man had the hardest left hook ranked #2 by Ring Magazine right before Joe Frazier that says a lot
Fucking master! Best Fighter Of The World of Lighter weights
He's great for sure but I personally think the greatest Mexican we ever saw was Salvador Sanchez that mans stamina and chin was just crazy we will never see it again and only fought to the age of 23 sadly passed away RIP sal.
The thing about Sal Sanchez being better than finito, i disagree is that sal sanchez had his career tragically shorten, so we don't know how he would've done or handled the furture success and fame that came with beating wilfredo gomez.
on the other hand, you have Finito who did manage to complete his career, and we can say with certainty that he fought the best, never once losing. The technique Finito uses can actually still be seen by Berenstein's fighters. Including Juan Manuel Marquez.
thanks man, would love to see you do a maidana video!
this guy retired undefeated, champion and better record than floyd mayweather jr.
n much better style.. that was good offense rythm with beautiful punches
fought bums his whole career
0.56 es hermoso ese golpe!
How does he jab without moving his shoulder? It's impossible to see it coming.
Right on
dude had one hell of a left hook
Ricardo is the best ever People
finito=the test of the best
Puedes poner donde Rosendo Alvares lo TUMBÓ por favor
La mejor tecnica la mexicana.
Who is here because of IPPO!
I would've let the original comments, the video is good though.
I could give it a try !
Nice
Whats the song playing through this?
Ya Boy - California soul (Lincoln Lawyer Remix)
Pacquiao vs Lopez? Who wins ? ( in the lower weight class obviously)
i would have loved to see his sparring sessions
Much respect for Ricardo Lopez. Hes a great fighter, very good boxing skills and very good footwork. But i dont think he's undefeated. He was viciously knocked down by a dynamite overhead right hand by Rosendo Alvarez in the 2nd round of their first fight. Ricardo got hurt many times in that first fight. I think that first fight shouldnt have been a draw. I think Rosendo Alvarez should have won that first fight.
