I love this composer! I found out shortly after first discovering his music that he actually lived the final years of his life at a beach that my family has gone to since I was a child many, many times on the Oregon coast. Nice playing!

I've been binge-watching your latest fantaisie impromptu videos and I finally got the polyrhythm after months of trying... the feeling of mixing both hands together and getting the sound right for the first time ever is indescribable. Your playing is very inspiring and I hope to hear Hungarian rhapsody No2 from you so I can watch it 10000 times😁

i've been wanting to tackle it, but the hardest thing i've learned so far is waltz of the flowers with its intro haha or arabesque and reverie, do you think it'd take me longer than that?

@@Lyth It can be tricky sometimes, especially the 4:3 polyrhythm. But just practice each hand individually until your muscle memory gets it so you don’t have to think about it. Start with the left hand arpeggios, get that figured out and then start with the left hand melody line!!!

@@Lyth Jim is correct... I would say try not to have any expectations especially if you're beginner/intermediate. Personally I've started learning piano 10 months ago.. at some point I decided to try to learn to the melody alone and spent well over 3 months just repeating it till it go so natural...(as a beginner I had 0 expectation to do polyrhythm for another couple years ) but then I decided to focus solely on left hand exercises so I said I'll do the left hand alone which I've done for over 1 month of just that...then out of nowhere I had an urge to just combine both and see what happens... I just couldnt get it right for weeks as a semi beginner but after so much focus on the piece/practice and listening to different interpretations you're bound to eventually get it right. Most importantly try not to set strict expectations and make the process enjoyable! Best of luck

@@Jimbarleyy practice hand separate is not an effective strategy for polyrhythm, it takes forever to master each hand then joining hands together at the correct tempo, you have to ensure you play lh alone and rh alone both at a certain tempo by practicing with a metronome and then practicing hand together, meanwhile things will be much more easier if you line up mathematically correct rh subdivision with corresponding lh subdivision for simple polyrhythm like 2:3, 3:2 (6 subdivisions) or 3:4, 4:3 (12 subdivisions) then practicing hand together from the beginning knowing already which turn is rh, which turn is lh or rh lh together...
For complex polyrhythm, you can just line up rh and lh in a similar way without considering about math and practice, stuff like 11 against 6 or 22 against 11 in a Chopin's Nocturne aren't something to be expected to play mathematically correct 100%

Beautiful piece played, as always, exquisitely. It’s great when you discover composers and pieces you’ve never heard of. I love to follow the written score. I used to love doing that as a child when having piano lessons. We didn’t have podcasts then of course but my dad had a tape to tape Grundig recorder and I would love to listen to recordings and follow with my music books. I just wondered, does Emilie have piano lessons with you Paul? XAngela
