I am so happy you made this video. I cross list everything to Poshmark and I don't get a lot of sales. The fact that they take 20% makes me not want sales there. I wasn't sure how the posh apps work or if they're worth it so I'm glad you experimented with it. I don't share my closet because I don't have time for that junk and I'm sure as heck not going to pay for an app AND lose 20% of my money. I look at Posh sales as a bonus since I maybe get 5 sales a month there. Most of my stuff sells on eBay.
I would love 5 sales a month on Poshmark, but yeah I’m just now crosslisting enough to where that may be a thing without paying posh more for this “promotion”. I’m with you though on just treating posh as a bonus and I may remember to share once a week
Thanks so much for providing these stats! I buy and sell on Poshmark but have never wanted to use the Promoted Closet feature for one main reason: The promoted items NEVER match my search! I search for sleeveless, and the promoted items are long sleeve; I search for wedge heels and the promoted items are flats or sneakers I definitely won't be giving in to this scheme, and your video just doubly confirmed that for me! Thanks so much!
I think Poshmark has a younger demographic of shoppers that is looking for newer, trendy items from brands sold at Anthro, on Revolve, etc. Trendy shoe brands like Dr. Martens, Birkenstocks, etc. People who sell more vintage items or clothing from more mature brands tend to do much better on eBay! I am a very casual reseller and definitely sell more on eBay than Poshmark due to the type of items I sell and the fact that I don't take time to share my closet lol
That’s interesting since Vintage is my best performing category on Posh, but I understand. I would probably do better if I made a stylized closet on Posh showing how vintage incorporates into a modern trendy wardrobe.
@@B0BBuys I think its smart you don't put a lot of effort into Poshmark though- if you are selling on mostly on eBay, might as well just focus on that!
@@B0BBuys I sell primarily Vintage items (clothes and hard goods) on Poshmark (Canada and US). Poshmark is my main platform, but I guess I should be moving over to Ebay and Etsy if Vintage is more successful there, sounds like I could make a lot more money hahaha!
My best selling brands on Poshmark are Talbots, Chico's, and Soft Surroundings. I believe it has to do with developing regular buyers. My buyers know I have good sources for these brands, and most are repeat buyers.
I've only been on the platform for a couple weeks. Mostly sell on Ebay. Just got offered to promote my closet so thanks for making the video. I do use the cross listing software which is the only reason I started selling on the platform. I've netted 16 sales so far with a 250 items store so I'm pretty happy so far. I really can't imagine how much it would be worth it to promote when you are already paying 20% fees. It seems like you could promote on Ebay and get better results rather than promoting your closet.
So I am just getting back into the Poshmark game but it seems like people are mostly shopping the live auctions where they’re literally giving the items away, like selling for 3-5 dollars. I don’t get it! Am I missing something? Poshmark takes $3 for any sale under $10. That’s $0-2 for people selling at $3-5 not including the COG as well as the time put in. Am I missing something because I don’t get it.
I cannot speak for the live auctions on Posh, since I am very happy on Whatnot, but the fact they didn't budge on the $2.95 selling fee on their lives is wild to me.
You're not missing anything, and I made this mistake in my own first live show. I think newer Live sellers buy into this idea of "Low Starts" (I certainly did), not realizing that you need 1. a sizeable viewing audience who want to compete against each other and 2. items worth having the large crowd battle over it to drive the price up closer to its resale worth I've seen several shows where sellers have watched in horror as only one person bid on their LV wallet or Free People top and it sold for only $3 - 5 🤦🏾♀️ Fortunately for me, the buyer who bought my top for $3 didn't complete their sale, so i was able to list and sell it later for $20 😅
When you look at the total sales volume on Poshmark, those live sales are less than 1% of sales. I don't know why they are promoting them so much, but my guess is they are testing the waters to start a separate live selling app.
20% and paying $29 promotion for two weeks would mean Poshmark would produce some crazy sell/through rates to justify that cost. I’ll stick with my 3% eBay promotion and just wait.
With PM promoted closets, I’m thinking Posh is going to promote, so I don’t have to by sharing my closet. So it doesn’t make sense that you still have to share while paying them to promote also. Especially when they have the highest platform fees.
Highest platform fees are cancelled out by providing 5 pounds of shipping for one price - and free Priority Mail shipping supplies. Plus, they back up their sellers better than any other platform. For some, that is worth 20%.
My PM has been dried up for quite a while now. I never use promoted listings on any platform and I share my stuff all the time. I also cross post by hand on 6 platforms. Ebay seems to be better for me now. Things seem to go in cycles for me. I am just trying to sell my possessions now so my kids don’t have to when I die. I don’t buy items to sell very much. I am just trying to get rid of all my stuff.
With all Poshmark's money grubbing, I'm curious to see what will happen now that Mercari has rolled out zero selling fees. My sales have doubled on their platform and its a perfect place to move stale inventory. Also, the times I tried promoted closet I placed value on collecting additional "likes". They were people I could send an offer to... I don't think its totally worthless but close.
I have tried the promoted closet a few times at different times of years since they started it. While I see a big increase in activity in my closet I have not seen an increase in sales. I currently have 750 active listings, I do not use a bot for sharing or sending offers or whatever, and I don;t find it takes a ton of time to share a few times per day and to send offer to likers a few times throughout the day. I manually crosspost some items to eBay but not everything, my poshmark sales have been far better than my eBay sales over the past couple of years but I think that is because I don't list consistently on eBay, I tend to use eBay for longtail items. I have just resigned myself to the fact that Poshmark sales are slower in the Spring and Summer, that has been my experience since I started selling there in 2016, my sales from Sept through the end of Jan more than make up for it.
In my opinion and experience: I have been selling on Posh for 3 years. In Canada Posh doesn’t support a sharing app of any kind. I use only Posh and I do pretty good on Posh (knock on wood). I sell on Posh US as well and I have no issues sharing to the 4 parties a day even when I am out doing life. It’s harder to do everything i need to do on my US closet because I don’t have the US app but I do manage to get it shared 4 times a day. I send offers when I am connected to the internet and share other people’s items. I don’t use posh promoted and I am not any kind of ambassador (should be by now) but I don’t care to even though I try. With Posh it’s all about just working the system. The more you post and share others items the better it is for the seller. It probably feels like you just set eBay and forget it but from what you have said eBay isn’t that either.
eBay is more set it and forget it. There is a big difference to refreshing your listing once every 1-6 months vs 3-4 times a day. Etsy is the most set it and forget it out of all the apps though.
@@B0BBuys the “parties” are different each day. The first one in the morning is for brands that are trending. The second is usually specific to items that are trending at that time. The third is a live show and that is anything. Fourth is kids, men’s, home, plus size, petite or electronics. The fifth is everything in your closet. Yes Posh is high maintenance. In watching Lori Tata and Courtney Common Tags both sell more on Poshmark than on eBay. But that could also be because of their following. I hate the shipping program on EBay and it’s even worse in Canada (our postal system is more expensive). Shipping items to the states with a cross border shipper is hard enough.
Thanks for this! I tried the promoted closets for 2 weeks as well and had 3 sales. But I wouldn't have netted much - maybe $10? - if I'd been using my one money. I started with Posh because it seemed easier and added eBay after a year or so. Now I make more on eBay - Posh has been pretty slow for the last year or so. I do think those live shows, plus Posh' poor search function are really tamping things downs. So sad....
