Great Point., and of course there is more to African Music. That was the VMAs an American show, not global show. African music does not have to hit an American audience or global audience to be great music or popular. Afro Beats is American colonize genre, which occurs when you try to make popular music. @@TinyTalks2Much your right, but also proves my point. ‘Mexican food’ is water down food from that country. Mexican chefs created the food to appeal to Americans.
Old white Americans want to simplify everything for their consumption. Trying to get recognition from country like America that fails to recognize true identity is foolish.
People in America that actually love music do not identify African music as simply afrobeats or African Music. We call it music.

Your point about Tems saying Afrobeats is from Nigeria is exactly what Tyla was trying to educate the "establishment" about.. You completely missed the point.. Tyla' s sound is Amapiano inspired... Her winning an Afrobeats award and saying the win is appreciated but bittersweet at the same time is based on the above point... African music is indeed diverse.. Tems explained this and also did Tyla. Amapiano is from South Africa and Afrobeats is from Nigeria. You can't group the two under Afrobeats... They are not the same... Tyla also acknowledged the nominees in the category as to say, i know i won but shout out to the real Afrobeats artists... Hence "bittersweet"

That Tyla take is a perfect example of what cause the beef with Americans and everybody else not just Africans. This girl makes music in a complete different genre, she does not need to adapt American ideologies to be accepted. Joe literally just went off on this girl talking so much shit as if shes doing something to hip hop. Its like Americans cant grasp the concept of a world where black people outside of the US dont see whatever Americans have going on as the ultimate goal. Ice can say afrobeats is not his thing he dont care for it, but the moment other people say yea i dont really fuck with your culture like that its war. People dont end up in america to be black people literally go there because thats where the industry and resources are. The major labels and infrastructures. @jaccl4539 11 часов назад +1

@@freddylloyd8083 You're incorrect on numerous points, and I understand your confusion. The short answer is your incorrect. The nuanced point is that you're pointing out how people identify but misunderstand the distinction.
Your conflating a term including a group with being the group.
Being colored does not imply being exclusively black in any country. I believe you are misinterpreting the colloquial term "people of color," which is not synonymous with "black."
Colored is the accepted term for Asian, black, or mixed-race people.
Furthermore, since 1807, there has been a distinction between negro, mulatto, and person of color.
People of color served as a rallying cry and an identity, symbolizing the collective of all those who would face enslavement and thus require legal protection.
In South Africa, the term "colored" does not refer to black people but rather to people of mixed ancestry.
The problem with your argument, sir/mam, is that you don't understand what you're talking about respectfully.
I can also continue with the historical use of negro to be colored to AA to minority back to AA, but it seems unnecessary at this point.
Even MLK made a distinction between negro and colored.
If this was a discussion about slurs, your argument would have more credence, but that's a different sidebar all together.
I say all that to say no matter what country or timeline we look at - your argument doesn't work.

I love his music and think his albums are great (all classics imo) but i dont really play them alot. These group are so ignorant when it comes to understanding African music. Tyla is so spot on. She literally talked about African music and these idiots are saying Afro beats. Afro beats is ONE of MANY GENRES in Africa. Amapiano is another genre that originated in South Africa. Water is NOT an afro beat song and should not be in the Afro beat category. Its disrespectful actually. Tyla is not an Afro beats artist. She is just an Artist. Just because an Artist happens to be from Africa doesn't mean they are automatically Afro beats artists. If Selena gomez or Beyonce had made the water song with the exact same beat and lyrics, do you think the song would be in the Afro beats category???Joe is literally upset over his own ignorance. Like you cant comprehend Africa has various genres of music? That would be like grouping every American artist into a rap category and just call them rappers just because they are American. Tyla actually pointed it out gracefully. Even Tems is not an Afro beats artist. They have way more range than that. Like didnt they listen to Tems album? The entire panel needs to go and educate themselves on African music. Afro beats is not an alternative name to African music.

Idk it just seems Joe is just Xenophobic, if it isn't Black American music then they aren't allowed to step in this country, but American music is allowed to spread Globally, what a contradiction. That Usher segment was some weirdo shit, whining is common in a lot of African countries, but now consent is out the window because somebody is famous? People can have self-respect and control.
It just looks like a lack of understanding of African culture, Tyla was just doing some silly banter that you see from West Africans as well, yet he somehow saw that as insulting Americans, and he doesn't know the distinction between the music from different African cultures. Afrobeats is mainly West African with a majority being Nigerian, and some from Ghana, she is bigging up South Africa with their Amapiano, and she is the first to hit it really big from her country, why is this a problem? This is weird behaviour.
I've not seen her cause any problems, other than a misunderstanding that doesn't translate well in USA due to cultural differences, she just does her own thing most of the time.

From the audio, Tyla sounded like she was actually cool with whoever she was asking to hold the award. And they are from a much more collective culture - in South Africa that shxt would probably be nothing. Anyway….. Her song didn’t open the door for African music - in this current wave.. Ckay - Love Nwantiti and Rema - Calm Down were big way before Water. Tems also. BUT She is right though, everything isn’t Afrobeats. South Africa does have it’s own music.. Amapiano, Kwaito, Gqom, etc. So, she is correct, she does show that African music can be mainstream beyond just Afrobeats. The Tyla segment was a really hard listen it’s been hard to listen to Joe when it pertains to foreign cultures he sounded very ignorant today and I was happy the cast made him stand alone in that and checked him
Tyla is 22/23 and Joe on his big platform calling her a b**ch and spouting that he don’t like her (it’s clearly cause she’s Indian) his son is the same age and was on here saying show grace to young artists.
Tyla is an African woman and millions of fans on the African continent she is acc a big deal whether you Americans (Joe) like it or not - she isn’t an afrobeats artist which is what she says in her acceptance speech but you guys (Americans) force all Africans into the afrobeats catergory and somehow that’s her fault for pointing out where you lot messed up?
