I think the one of my problems/issues with This is Us is that all 3 kids perceived Jack to be the perfect dad. Kate was the peak of it. In Katoby for their argument, Toby pointed out that the reason Kate wasn’t happy with him is because he isn’t Jack Pearson. Now I’m not siding with Toby as he still had his flaws, but after all that he went through (heart attack, losing weight, going out to San Fran away from the family to help provide, etc.) Kate still wasn’t happy with him. It was a mix of her own issues as well as her having a borderline terrible perception of what a partner is: comparing to someone else and placing them higher praises of them than they truly deserved
Jack is indeed a dream dad. I wish I had one like him. Not going to lie, but he made me cry a couple times, because I grew up without a father. My single mother was and is an absolute gem, but a father is an important piece too. I grew up facing body negativity like Kate and being bright (and having panic attacks) like Randall. Life could have been different with a father like Jack. This Is Us is an incredible and well written drama. The cast is talented. The characters well fleshed out. Of course, I'm talking about the good traits of Jack. No one is perfect and he was suffering due to his alcoholism notably.
Emy Pierre-Louis. I lost my father when I was 12 and I wish I could have had what the Pearsons have. I see the show as a shinning beacon of positivity and inspiration for people to try to achieve as much as we can, as well as learn from their mistakes. I want to do a lot with my life, I want to write stories that are great like these and start a business that'll be able to provide like Jack and Rebecca wanted. Most of all I hope this show will give people the strength to try and be better than they were before and I love the earnestness behind every storyline. I hope this show will help you as it helps me and it will always be there to remind everyone that it's never too late to be good and anyone can overcome anything with the right support. :-)
My father abandonned me at 12 yrs old... its comforting to know that im not alone and reading you. Thank you for sharing! I wish you lots of goodness and love 💕
My favorite moment of the show is the reveal about Tess. It is a culmination of the positive impact of fathers spanning multiple generations. It's Jack's legacy passed through Randall onto Tess, who devotes her life to positively impacting others. How beautiful.
Honestly, the way Milo portrays Jack so well that it has touched so many people. Jack lived in such a way that people feel his presence and spirit and feel that he’s missing for so long, despite all his flaws. It’s such an inspiration.
So well done and so true! RIP Jack Pearson. He reminds me so much of my own dad especially with the way he handled Randall’s panic attacks. My dad does the same for me sometimes when I have them. Also the way he tries to shoulder everyone’s burden with his own. My dad does that all the time and it effects him so much. But I know it’s because he wants my sister and I to be ok. It makes you realize as a woman that you want a partner who holds undying support, love and loyalty to you and your family. That’s what I want. I am so privileged to have the dad I have and he doesn’t even know it. That’s what makes This is Us so hard for me because of the realization that he won’t always be around and will become a memory. It’s a hard fact to swallow at times but makes me appreciate the current times I have with him and the memories we make with my mom and sister each day. I’d also love it if you guys did Rebecca because she’s an incredible figure that I think often times gets overlooked because of Jack’s incredible character.
I am so glad to hear how your dad managed your panic attacks similar to how jack did. He sounds like a good man trying to make his family strong and happy, although hopefully not too much to hurt himself. Life is imperfectly perfect and people who care deeply for family and don't try to belittle anxiety and other mental health issues are so important.
Why did I click on this video? I was crying the whole time. Jack Pearson is a hell of a father and a beautiful character. Not because he's perfect but because he's trying so hard to be a good man and a good father despite his trauma
I've never seen This is Us, but I clicked on this video anyway because I love your content and channel. So...now I'm over here tearing up over a show and a guy I don't even watch. Isn't that crazy? You always do such an amazing job with these episode. You have an awesome way of immersing your audience and I definitely think I've just been convinced to binge watch this show on Hulu.
It used to be on the NBC app for free. I didn't watch the first season but keep seeing it everywhere (and by everywhere I mean RUclips)! So I ended up binge watching it a few months back and haven't missed an episode since! I'll tell you know though, get your box of tissues ready! Practically every episode will make you cry, sad tears and good!
I like Jack as a character, but he's so perfect. like said in the video the dream dad. But as a character, Rebecca is more interesting. She struggles, shows vulnerability, makes mistakes, constantly asks herself if she is a good parent. She's more real. I would like an analysis of her.
I adore Jack with all my heart, but yeah, I do have to say that Rebecca has tended to be SO underrated. I had my frustrations with her in season 1 as well, but this season has made me love her so much, and realize that she is really an *amazing* mom who is determined to be there for her kids no matter what, and an amazing wife too
xTLtokio I think it's interesting how we see perfect moms (self-sacrificial, private in struggles, positive influence) all the time but the perfect dad is so alien to us
He’s not perfect. He struggles with a lot of things and he really has to work hard to be the man he is. Remember Dr. K said he would keep coming to him for advice because he was so afraid of messing up. Then there is his alcoholism. He is far from perfect but he is a genuinely good man, and an exceptional husband and father.
@kcohere33 But even his struggle of alcoholism had no really effect on his children, yes, they had ONE conversation with Kate, and Kevin seems to have inherited his gene for alcoholism but this arc had no consequence, they could using this plot (for me), to show that yes, there may have a fews cracks in the relationship between Jake and his children, and that's okay, Jake can fail with them sometimes, that wouldn't make him less "perfect". You can be the best father in the world, but you'll never be 100%. This idea of Jake struggling to be a good person, being the best father it's very little explored, 90% of the time the series spends its time reaffirming how good husband and father he is. There's no denying that the series idealizes Jake's figure. What makes Rebecca so interesting. she actually fails in some way that affects her children, she actually made mistakes, and she's STILL a badass mom. btw: going for advice, was never shown (only once in the first season), it's like the show telling me that Jake wasn't perfect.
What do you mean it had no effect on his children? Rebecca kicked him out of the house because of it. Do you think you mean he should have been abusing them or going on drunken benders or something? He didn't do any of those things because he was struggling to contain his problem for his family. It seems like you think he should be acting like a bad father at times to show his struggle, but that's not who Jack is. He doesn't need to be over the top with it. You know just from his interactions with his loved ones and friends how hard he is struggling. Its like Rebecca said, the fact that he is so great a father coming from the horrible father he had, he's a miracle. But he and Rebecca are very different people in the way they deal with things. And don't get me wrong, I think Rebecca is awesome and a wonderful mother. I have defended her from fans who think she is selfish, and whiny and all kinds of other things. I'm not taking anything away from her. My only point was that Jack is far from perfect. He has the same flaws everyone else has, but his genuine good nature and devotion to his family helps him overcome them. Plus, he, like Kevin, is not extremely open about his inner feelings so we don't see him breaking down very much. He keeps a lot bottled inside to keep this image of himself as being more confident than he is. We haven't seen him going for advice, hence why even Rebecca was surprised to hear it, but we have seen that Jack is not without flaws. None of them are. That's what makes all of the characters so compelling. We see so much of ourselves in them.
I've always wanted to see the face of the woman who did all these vocally soothing and calm film analysis videos. And well... she's as beautiful as i imagined she was.
My dad is nothing like jack but he is my Superman. He isn’t optimistic or funny or any of that but he is the first person I think of when something goes wrong and he is the one man in this world that I know will go down swinging for me and who taught me to do the same. My dad is a great man and it’s very cool to see another great man in jack
I think my favorite Jack scene was when Randall hallucinated him after ingesting mushrooms. Even when he's just imaginary, he's still pointing his kids in the right direction. And quite frankly nobody but Jack would have been able to help him after the bombshell with William and Rebecca.
This channel needs to do a video on Rebecca Pearson! Like she is a good representation of a mother who tries. Like she isn’t perfect, she never claims to be, but she is still caring and loving towards her children. she is the opposite of the typical Mother roles on where either the mother is extremely terrible or the mother legit does no wrong. She is the perfect balance and represents how much a mom sacrifices.
My dad wasn't exactly the warmest dad but i know he really loved me..all he thought about is how to protect me ,provide for me ,sometimes he used harsh words dealing with me and i thought he didn't love me so i was sometimes a jerk to him i did hurt him he passed away 3 years ago and it still hunts me that I can't apologize to him now ican't tell him i finally understand him and know how much he loved me , how i took him for granted so this show was a healing experience my dad wasn't jack but he was my jack love u dad
It's funny, for the past couple of years whenever I imagine myself as a father, one of the very FIRST pictures that immediately comes to my mind is the image of Jack Pearson!...Really! I identify myself so much with that continuous effort to make everything look "okay" even when it's not! (and yes, that's exhausting, dehumanizing and self-destructive sometimes!) and that willingness to say/do something goofy for the sake of making the day of those you love a little bit better. Jack Pearson is one of the best characters ever created and I love how you can clearly see a little bit of him in each one of his three children. Last but definitely not least, it takes a MONSTER of an actor to turn a fictional character into a giant real-life aspiration to millions, so kudos and praise to Milo Ventimiglia!!! Oh, by the way...just found out this very week me and my wife are pregnant, wish me luck! =)
This show is best of the best. Jack is best dad ever we could see in TV shows and movies. I adore him, every time when I see him it always make me cry. O my God I love him...
season 1-3 is about jack and season 4-6 is about rebecca I like how he is shown to be a super-hero dad. But in the end, he died like a hero (literaly) and Rebecca was the one to take care of what was left of their broken family
Fortunately it just made me appreciate mine even more. My dad's awesome like Jack is. They're very different guys, though, but still great dads all the same.
Oh man, this just made me want to cry aaaall over again :') This video also reminded me that I actually think that the Jack scene that gets me above *anything* else is his opening up to Kate about his alcoholism... I think just because it's a level of vulnerability he so rarely ever let himself get to around his kids, and it's equal parts heartbreaking and so incredibly sweet because of the connection he and Kate have!
That damn show can even make me tear up when just watching clips in a review or analysis video. And I'm not one to usually get misty over a TV show. It is so well written and the characters are so lovable and relatable. Best drama in quite some time imo. Well done analysis. Thank you!
Well done! The 11 minutes flew by! Was engrossed in it, big time! So many wonderful moments you brought into this. Thank you for making and uploading this!
Dang! I am so lucky to have a man like Jack! Jack is a devoted husband who makes sure to meet Rebbeca's needs and wants and then eventually Randall, Kate, and Kevin's needs. He deliberately wants what's best for his family, no matter how many times he has to sacrifice his time by working long hours. He makes romantic and memorable dates for Rebbeca to show how much he loves her and little other moments along the way. Jack makes his children respect him by opening lines of communication with them and talking to them about their feelings, negative or otherwise.
I don't understand the people who could press dislike on this, or any, of your guy's videos. I love everything you guys make and this is no exception. Thank you for making great content.
I cried during every episode of This Is Us, and now I’m crying during the analysis of this show. Well done! I need to change my shirt now, my sleeves are drenched in tears and snot.
I just started watching the show and after realizing that Jack is my favorite character, I immediately liked to see if you guys had a video on the show. Thanks for this awesome video 👌🏾😘
Dear Susannah and Debra, Great content, as always! Jack Pearson is an amazing character, and his death in the house fire was really devastating to watch. I was surprised to find that this is the only video that you did on "This is Us". In my opinion, This is Us has plenty of important and deep topics to talk about. To name a few: grief, death, trauma, family relationships, adoption, racism, life of a Hollywood celebrity, obesity issues, substance abuse, Alzheimer's, politics, what makes a good marriage, good and bad parental figures, and war veterans as well (and many more). I think The Take is great in talking about deeper stuff and societal issues too, and "This is Us" is full of them. It would be great to watch more The Take episodes about this amazing show. Thank you so much for the great work that you do, and I hope you get this message. Maybe if you create some more videos about it, more people will watch "This is Us". Keep up the good work!
Seeing jack relationship with kate made me appreciate way more the efforts my father always did to make me happy and feel confident about myself. Like kate, i didnt always like it and i cant explain why but this show gave me my parents perspective on everything i never thought of that i know they did just out of love. Its not always the best decision and the one that ends up bringing good seeds, but it always came with the best of intetions
YES! Please more This Is Us videos. Could you do a character analysis of how Adam Braverman from Parenthood and Jack from This Is Us are great archetypes for brotherhood and family.
Please do one on Rebecca. I think the current season is showing just how amazing she is and what it is to be a mother. Sometimes Jack got all the credit for being an amazing dad, but it was Rebecca who didn't get any credit. Until they release they're going to lose her
Wow! I am seriously in love with your work. I had ZERO interest in this show before watching this (I don't watch tv with commercials so I never knew what the show was about). Now I need to see it, thank you!
My mom convinced me to watch it. It's great. If it wasn't for her, I would never watch this great piece of TV. Sure if can get a little preachy with morals and a bit cheesy with other stuff, but the good outweights the bad.
I loved that Rebecca mentioned Tom Hanks, because I love Tom and I always compare him to my dad and I always think "Yeah my dad is the best". And Tom is really hard to top!
I LOVE Jack Pearson, I LOVE Milo Ventimiglia and I absolutely LOVE "THIS IS US!!" Thank you Mr. Fogelman for the stories you create for each actor, they are truly AMAZING!! Looking forward for Season 3 on 9/25/18. Love all you guys.
Aaand now Im crying. But I gotta say though, I don't think Kate was Jack's "favorite" but rather his little girl, which is a relationship that automatically manifests itself in a different way from having two sons. Not better, just different.
ScreenPrism, Jack is a truly extraordinary man who has ordinary strengths and weaknesses but he sincerely loves the children he adopts with Rebecca. Rebecca and Jack's love story is truly unique and beautiful in every way because he continues to fall in love with her every day he is married to Rebecca. I love your channel so much because I was addicted once I watched your Cinderella video. Bravo!
This is the truth about Jack is that he is a good father and a good husband but he is a flawed person in the most normal way. He doesn't have these big over the top issues that will wreck havoc on his life but it does have some negative impact.
Honestly, I would have loved for him or man like him as my father! My dad wasn’t involved in my life.. but if I could have had anyone, it’d be someone like him💔
I stopped watching it around Season 2 mid-way mostly because I was waiting and scared to see Jack's death. Seeing your video popping up just motivated me to finish it just so I can watch your analysis and video. Really great work and a great video you put out there. I would love it if you can explain how does these writers and directors are able to create such a masterpiece, basically being able to pace 3 different timelines into episodes after episodes. While able to recruit such a great chemistry between casts and written these storyboards.

ScreenPrism. Jack Pearson is the kind of guy who would be used up and tossed away by his wife within 10 years.
Just some Bloke. Yes. Jack's "perfect fatherhood" won't be appreciated by either his wife or society when divorce/separation time comes.
We need portrayals of families that are healthy AND realistic. Jack and Rebecca aren't actually perfect but they are good parents and lovers.
Claire Scott
Yeah but here’s the thing: that’s utterly boring.
Mark Zuccciniburg crotchbook ceo i disagree.

Jack is literally the kind of dad i want to be when I have kids. Props to the writers and Milo for his portrayal of Jack.
same. IF i decide to have kids tho lol
It's pretty awesome how great a job Milo does considering he's unmarried and childfree IRL.
Hope you are

I married a man similar to "Jack". He doesn't think he's a good dad or husband, but he's literally the best and we're so lucky to have him.

And mothers for that matter.
Jack Pearson is the archetypal hero and good father. It’s refreshing to see this on display in modern television.

Fortunately it just made me appreciate mine even more. My dad's awesome like Jack is. They're very different guys, though, but still great dads all the same.
He really reminds me of mine since he died when I was young and I strive to be more like my father everyday.
I already resented my crappy (step)father years before this show existed, so no worries.
Oh man, this just made me want to cry aaaall over again :')
This video also reminded me that I actually think that the Jack scene that gets me above *anything* else is his opening up to Kate about his alcoholism... I think just because it's a level of vulnerability he so rarely ever let himself get to around his kids, and it's equal parts heartbreaking and so incredibly sweet because of the connection he and Kate have!
Season 2 is over.. and i cried just from watching this video essay... that's how Great ' THIS IS US' is... 💕💕💕
This analysis makes me want to watch the show
Under The Sun binge it on Hulu!
Under The Sun Oh you should. There hasn't been TV this good in a long while.
And you should. And if you like it when you tune in, then try the shows "Parenthood" and "Friday Night Lights" too!
You should!!!
My husband is exactly like jack in so many ways but most of all on how amazing of a father and partner he is 🥰
THIS CHANNEL IS THE ONLY REVIEW THAT YOU NEED TO SEE
Please do more about this is us!!! Especially about the last season! It's so beautiful writing!
Per usual wonderful analysis! I would love more videos on This is Us! Keep up the wonderful work!
I will marry a man like Jack you hear that Universe bring him to me when I’m ready!
You will one day
That damn show can even make me tear up when just watching clips in a review or analysis video. And I'm not one to usually get misty over a TV show. It is so well written and the characters are so lovable and relatable. Best drama in quite some time imo. Well done analysis. Thank you!
I've been waiting for a This is Us video essay for so long thank you so much!!!!
I've never seen this show, but this analysis really almost made me cry oh my god.
I love this channel so much. Please never stop making videos.
Milo is such a great actor. he deserves more appreciation man i felt everything with him and died with him as well
I always really love your analyses on things. Thank you for these videos, and for talking about this amazing show.
Can’t wait for more This is Us content! It’s such an amazing and well written show!
I just started watching the show and after realizing that Jack is my favorite character, I immediately liked to see if you guys had a video on the show. Thanks for this awesome video 👌🏾😘
Dear Susannah and Debra,
Great content, as always!
This analysis convinced me to check this out, just the way you described it brought me to tears. What a wholesome show
Love This is Us, I almost cried with your analysis too, pieces of Jack reminds me of my dad...great show and cast
Great job guys 👍 been waiting for a video on ‘this is us’ , worth it !
This channel is the best! You ladies are the best! Great video as always.
Yup. I'm crying at work.
He reminds me so much of my husband. 😩
Please do one on Rebecca. I think the current season is showing just how amazing she is and what it is to be a mother. Sometimes Jack got all the credit for being an amazing dad, but it was Rebecca who didn't get any credit. Until they release they're going to lose her
Oh y’all gotta do ALL the characters now. I’m invested!
I love this channel so much! Every video is amazing, congrats on the nice job 😊😊😊
I love everything about this video
Best. Show. Ever.
I cry every episode!! Last episode Hit me hard, how to tell my dad I love him very much even though he was sleeping
he's so perfect I tear up everytime I see him...
Wow! I am seriously in love with your work. I had ZERO interest in this show before watching this (I don't watch tv with commercials so I never knew what the show was about). Now I need to see it, thank you!
siriusthecat watch it on Hulu!
My mom convinced me to watch it. It's great. If it wasn't for her, I would never watch this great piece of TV. Sure if can get a little preachy with morals and a bit cheesy with other stuff, but the good outweights the bad.
siriusthecat u neeed tooo
I loved that Rebecca mentioned Tom Hanks, because I love Tom and I always compare him to my dad and I always think "Yeah my dad is the best". And Tom is really hard to top!
I want to be a dad just like Jack.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand I'm crying all over again and haven't even seen the funeral episode. Boy oh boy...
You guys explained this stuff really well. Great job guys!
The fact that he is such an amazing father given the role model he had is what makes him near perfect in spite of his flaws.
love this video, love you guys. thank you for your always wonderful work!
such a woderful video!! GAH!! I adore the videos you make :)
It's been a few months since I dont watch This Is Us and now I'm crying with this video because I remembered how much I love Jack Pearson
Jack Pearson is one of my favourite characters. The abuse he's faced is so realistic and sad but I love that it's only made him strong and protective.
I cry so much watching this is us the show, I just shed a tear watching this. Jack is amazing..
I eagerly wait for your videos
ScreenPrism, Jack is a truly extraordinary man who has ordinary strengths and weaknesses but he sincerely loves the children he adopts with Rebecca. Rebecca and Jack's love story is truly unique and beautiful in every way because he continues to fall in love with her every day he is married to Rebecca. I love your channel so much because I was addicted once I watched your Cinderella video. Bravo!
Why did you have to make me cry? I was 12 when my father died and it's so hard to follow his footsteps.
Jack is one of the Top 10 TV Dads. Loved this video!
I can't watch this show without crying. So beautiful!
This is the truth about Jack is that he is a good father and a good husband but he is a flawed person in the most normal way. He doesn't have these big over the top issues that will wreck havoc on his life but it does have some negative impact.
I never seen the show before but I’m crying like I lost a family member! I will watch it.
This made me cry and I don't even watch the show. Great job!
i just love milo so much. he plays jack so beautifully !
Am I the only crying since minute 2:00? Great video! right in a soft spot.
Awesome channel BTW ScreenPrism. Just binged 5 of your videos. Subbed!
I've never seen this show and yet i'm crying right now
Honestly, I would have loved for him or man like him as my father!
Awesome! Best show, Best Dad Ever! Thanks
I absolutely loved this character analysis!!!
I relate too much to him and I’m a woman. Seriously I’m also trying to be better than what my past would determine me to be
I honestly am binge watching this is us for Jack!!!!!
Oh my God, I'm in tears all over again. ❤❤
