Finally!!-Someone who knows how to tune a radio properly!!-I have watched several you tubers review the HRD and could not tune the radio properly to show it's features. He was the first one to find that the HRD also has long wave just by adding the correct antenna. Many thanks to him I am seriously considering buying one.
I mentioned this on another channel, but I am really digging these micro portables. I have the RADDY version of this, the RF750, the RETEKESS TR105 and V115, and the CountyComm GP-7/SSB. They aren't the best in the world but for their size they do very well especially with a long wire antenna. Because the speakers are so small I use a set of KOSS QZ-99 headphones, they sound great for voice communications.
Bro it looks like i am looking for the same type of portable radio can u give me some suggestions i am considering tr 110.. Do u have any suggestions my priority is fm ,good reception, clear audio my country India
I think those are clones and this hrd is the original? Raddy and tek seem to cost double of the hrd in this video? Software same but with different name on the front? Got the raddy rf320 and like it. Was looking for something for something more as a novice without breaking the bank since idk if this is for me in long run
Hello from the Urals. Thanks for the review. I'm thinking of getting a 747. Now I have a Texan600 and a 737 and you did a very good job comparing these receivers. Thank you very much.
The test is very informative and deserves thanks and recognition. Unfortunately, one crucial point has not been taken into account in the test procedure. The display of the PL 600 is a source of interference. If the HRD 747 comes close to the PL 600's display with its antenna, it picks up the noise. This is not a fair test. Only one radio may be in operation. If two radios are operated in close proximity with AM/SSB - demodulation, they will interfere with each other.
The Tecsun will be a much better radio for SSB /ECSS use due to that pure clean low noise audio. The DSP radios all have a harshness to the audio with distortion and they cut off too much bass frequencies. I have had many DSP radios but I prefer my Tecsun pure analogue radio the most because of it's low noise floor and fantastic SSB audio, a true SWL DX'er radio. They can use DSP all they want to minimise the size of the radio but it will never help sound quality especially on SSB so I will never accept DSP as superior technology until SSB audio issues have been resolved which seems highly unlikely.
@@o00scorpion00o The wide band front end of the 747 makes it very prone to overload and noise. Also the tiny speaker accentuates the noise. It's better using headphones. I have an HRD 747 and an XHDATA 808. The difference is very noticeable on most bands. The tiny 747 is very much a compromise with so many features in a tiny package whereas the 808 is a great portable.
Have one on order under the name Retekess TR110. Will be interesting to see the performance connected with a USB to Earth ground cable on the -50MHz frequencies.
My HRD-747 performed great for the first 2 weeks, until it just suddenly went completely def couldn't even pick up local FM anymore. It did sour my liking for this or other brand variants.
I bought a radio like this but retekess tr110 when I switch to sw and press to switch to ssb it keeps doing the search, right after it just sizzles low as if it had to activate something. I am not able to access the side bands when I put it in the first option after Lsb Am it works normally.
When I saw this yesterday I ordered one. It seems to make a big difference. Of course, I've also ordered the Retekess TR-110 (same radio) to go with it!
Ijust got a rf 760 raddy and I can not grasp th em anual nor their customer support person I asked for asstance to prgram. I wanted to program it to scan the 10 merter band their doreftion was uselss i giv eup after 2 weeks
747 good reception on mediumwave, MW antenna is at the bottom of the radio. By holding the radio you become a larger antenna. Also cleans up messy MW signals. Yes, I know about how to tune in longwave, with the external antenna.
So what look how small the radio is it shifted big deal but he's clear as a bell you can't always get what you want for that price point it's a damn good little radio compared to these other ones they're charging $200,300 for sideband it's a damn good deal cuz it does a lot that's my story and I'm sticking to it just enjoy it man you can listen to the world in the palm of your hand 👌✋✋✋
the 747 has very good fm radio reception for music.....the tecsun has more room for filtering, the tiny one doesn't have....in such a tiny package its an amazing radio.
I have one but I can’t set the frequency 160.050 It goes 016.50 :( I hope to find out what am I doing wrong :( Nevertheless it’s nice to see it work on some experienced hands!!!

I had this radio for 2 months, but I wasn't that impressed. It has some nice features, but my had very unresponsive tuning wheel. It technically should work on VHF and UHF frequencies, but it worked rather poorly. I later changed it for tecsun PL-368 and I like it much more, especially the fact that it has a keyboard which is very helpful.

After watching your video, I got this AM antenna and although it does "activate" long wave reception (which is of little or no use at all outside Europe) it blocks the actual MW band reception! Also happens in other radios I tried it on. It seemed like a nice and cool antenna but it doesn't (at least in my case) work at all. Nice video in general though.
Hi, thank you for the test ... I also have this radio that I love. The only reproach I could do is USB/LSB .... mine is struggling to clarify with the wheel ... Maybe a defect on mine? ... Otherwise I tested it on the other bands ... including VHF ... UHF ... It receives perfectly. I ordered the HRD767 that I should receive soon. .. I will test too ... 🙂

This could have been easily the best handheld receiver if it didn't have so many bugs and issues. I mean holy crap LW/SW/VHF/UHF coverage, I don't think there is any other handheld receiver that boasts that kind of frequency coverage.
Frequency coverage is the easiest part on a receiver. It does not need special tech skills to open it (or find the pcb photo online) and realize that there are no band pass filters at all.
@@maxit-mw yeah it's easy because these are all DSP based receivers, all it takes is selecting the proper DSP for the frequency coverage (but many cheap receivers use DSPs are aren't really suited for shortwave coverage but can still do it but with massive gaps in frequency coverage). there are far more issues than no bandpass filters.
