Display on this is so small it almost needs a magnifying glass. Changing modes requires multiple button pushes. SSB is off with no recalibration possible. Antenna is so thin it's just asking to be destroyed. A positive point is that this has amazing sensitivity on mediumwave.
Most DSP synthesized radio receivers has this annoying chuffing or muting between stations while tuning. Only the high end receivers features the continuous seamless tuning like the analogue radios. Wish manufacturers of all brands paid attention to correct this major flaw Cheers! New Delhi
It is very annoying indeed. I think they are all based on si4732 or similar chips, and those are not able to do continuous tuning. I guess they didn't have tunung in mind. The use case they covered is you scan for stations and use theme from memory. Too bad.
@@batica81 couldn't agree more on this. Honestly, with much expectations I had recently bought another DSP synthesised radio receiver but, sadly it is now heading to become a junk as I hate the chuffing/muting effect while tuning. It's so damn bugging that the so called RUclips radio ace radio reviewers stops short of mentioning this major flaw. I regret wating money on such junks
@@shandybrandy5407 Ah too bad. Yes, it is a huge flaw and almost nobody mentions it, like everyone got used to it being so. I can recommend Belka DX receiver, it has perfect continuous tuning and works very well. Although it is a bit expensive and mostly ham oriented so it does not have other fancy SWL features like automatic tuning and band selection. Look it up, it has plenty reviews online and still seems available although shipped from Belarus.
@@shandybrandy5407 Tecsun did an amazing job with the H501x, sounds a lot better on SSB than the PL-880,990x and S-8800 and the 4 Khz filter works on SSB on the H501x it doesn't on the 880,990x or S-8800 + the audio sounds very muffled and pretty bad distortion at the beginning of a transmission on SSB worse with strong signals. The H501x fixes the filters making the radio sound much better, still some distortion but it's not nearly as bad. Pretty much all the DSP radios have the issue of distortion at the beginning of a transmission some are worse than others. The PL-330 is a really good radio too for it's size having SSB is amazing and it supports external antenna for LW/MW same as the H501x. The H501 audio in general is really good from it's built in speakers. The PL-680 has decent audio from it's speaker too and it sounds best of all dsp radios on SSB free from any form of DSP related distortion, it's filters are a bit wide for SSB but still nice clean audio and sounds great using ECSS on an AM station, way better than the DSP radios and with external antenna there's not going to be more you will hear on a dsp radio than the PL-680.
Nice radio for about $100 to $140. Good on MW, FM, shortwave, airband and weather band (USA). VHF and UHF is a continuous 30-520 MHz. Tunes longwave with external TECSUN antenna, beacons really come in. Just give it time to read the instructions and play with it.
Is 'Frequence' even a word when it comes to radio? I love Chinese typos on equipment. One piece of gear I have has a 'CHRAGE' connector HI. 73 de G0MOH.
LW will work if you use Tecsun external antenna, 150-1710 khz. This antenna is used with ATS DP 368 and 360 radios, and can be ordered separately. I have several of them. When I put the antenna on my 747 it immediately tuned to 153 khz, and received a aero beacon on 332 khz. Also improved MW reception.
Very good review Paul. If you plug in an external antenna this radio suddenly comes alive starting at 153khz (turn it off then on again)so only then does it display Long Wave...could be the same for 160M? Maybe the successor to this (HRD-757?) will have a direct tuning numeric keypad on the front, a bit like the Tecsun PL-368 (the PL-365 was lacking a numeric keypad which was annoying). My Tecsun Pl-368 stopped working on all AM bands so now I have an ATS-100 on order at a really good sale price from Ali, hopefully will have it this coming week. 73
@@ashab1 I have it exactly 12 months and I didn't really use it that much at first..it was mostly still in its box.., only in the past 5-6 months did I start to really used it, I found the external AM antenna socket great as I could connect it to my loop and hear LW, MW and SW...the ETM function is class! Maybe it got a shot of static from me, I don't know but the AM section is completely broken. As I said I have the ATS-100 on order, got it for a good bit cheaper than the HRD-747 here...but I've seen it at much higher prices.
HanRongDa HRD-767 is like Mini Walkman of AM (522 - 1620 / 520 - 1710 kHz, 9 or 10 kHz AM stepping switch), Japanese FM band (76 - 108 MHz) and Air Band (118 - 138 MHz) but it doesn’t have MP3 player, same body as HRD-602 but no air band.
In some models, conecting an external antenna an the socket jack while radio is in MW, radio himself changes to LW band. Seems that this feature is not documented in the user manual.
Thank you. I like this radio. It is slightly bigger than my Pioneer XMP3 satellite radio and when it comes available via Radiotty, I am going to get it.
Thanks for such a comprehensive review. I am looking forward to my hrd-747. I am sure I will be able to use it without a manual by now. If it will not go astray...
I saw a video where someone plugged in an external antenna to the jack at the top and long wave frequencies appeared, I dont know about 160 Metres though, look on youtube and you will find it I think he had an Irish accent.
My inglish not very good. I speak Portuguese Brazil. As pessoas dizem que esse radio é muito bom para a Air e as outras frequências não são tão bom. Isso procede?

Is there WiFi capabilities? This presentation was very helpful and very well done !!! Thank You. Ricky from IBM, Ret K4VMS Florida USA
Interesting review. I've bought its rebranded version the Retekess TR-110 and I'm thoroughly disappointed. In an urban environment with FM transmitters around it's completely deaf. Other, cheaper radios like the Sihuadon R-108 fare way better in the same environment. Yes, they're bigger too. I shall probably return it unless another test in a quieter environment gives completely different results.
@@OM0ET Thanks for your reply. I hadn't heard of this new beast.
