What a nifty idea! We love corn bread and love dumplings so this is awesome. I can't wait to try it. I also make a similar variation that my family's crazy about. I like to make a homemade Sweet Corn Bread Stuffing/Dressing and serve it on top of chili, soups, etc... They love it. It's an awesome combination of SWEET (from the brown sugar & honey) and the SAVORY (from the herbs & seasonings like sea salt, sage, parsley, etc...) I can't wait to give your dumplings a try!
hmmmmm....leftover parfait.............sounds absolutely REVOLTING!!! ;-) I am very glad to hear that such a concoction came from the mind of a writer rather than an actual Mum!!! Cornbread dumplings, on the other hand, now THAT'S some smart comfort food cooking!
Oh yeahhh! I will be making these to go in a pot of turnip and mustard greens. My brothers will think I channeled the spirits of my great granny. lol. Thanks for this recipe.
Noreen you are getting me in so much trouble. I share with the hubby all your great recipes now he is after me to make them all lol. We love our cornbread and we love chili so this one is definitely going on the top of the must try list. I cant wait to try it with my ham and bean soup. Yum! Keep sharing love you guys so much.
I don't think I can eat a regular parfait now without thinking about leftovers. Hmmmm. Thanks for the laugh and always for the great recipe Noreen. Blessings! :-) The Mrs.
lol my best friend growing up, her mother always called all the leftovers in a casserole "mustgo" shudders, sometimes they were good, but mostly misses
We are vegan and gluten free. Would this recipe work with oat milk (I’ll add vinegar to make buttermilk substitute) and with gluten free flour instead of regular flour?
If you like tamales, then I'll bet that is a really great way to replicate that flavor without all the TONS of work! I don't enjoy tamales. Even after living in Arizona for thirty years, it is one of the tastes I never acquired. Rick likes them but the rest of us, not so much.
Teresa bradley YES! We love Navajo tacos. I love fry bread. Never met anyone who didn't love a piece of fried dough. That is on my list to share as well. Got the recipe from my sister-in-law's mother, whom I watched make fry bread before they got married. Ms. Priscilla is a Navajo and she knows what she is doing. That is the only way to learn something. Right from the source!
Oh my word! I would never have thought about cornbread dumplings! Genius!
This Just the dumplings I was looking for today. Looks Delicious and easy. 😋👩🍳

We are vegan and gluten free.
Would this recipe work with oat milk (I’ll add vinegar to make buttermilk substitute) and with gluten free flour instead of regular flour?
Would honey work with it? Because I don't cook with sugar.
Sure, just sub it out for the sugar.
Noreen could you use these for the chicken dumpling recipe?
Love it can you make sweet corn tamales?
Do you have to use buttermilk? Or can you use regular milk?
You need to use buttermilk here
I actually came up with a tamale soup tht I use masa for dumplings. So much easier then hrs of making tons of tamales. Taste just like a tamale :)
