'The Hunt for Gollum' is a working title and I guess it's misdirection. It's odd that this is the first of two films because Aragorn only captures Gollum about a year before the main story begins. On the other hand, the hunt itself is not very eventful. I think there is likely to be a lot of Aragorn and Arwen and perhaps, some invented adventure for them (assuming Arwen stays like in the film as opposed to book-Arwen, who mainly looks pretty and does embroidery).
That would leave the setting-out of the Nazgul and their dealings with Saruman and Wormtongue for the second film. We know Aragorn has met them and also that he enters Moria. There is plenty of material albeit much of it is in Unfinished Tales -- Warners absolutely has to license that if they are not to repeat Amazon's mistakes. All depends on the creative vision PJ and co bring to the party, but for now let's be hopeful.

Well, I feel old!
There are things missing, granted, in the original LOTR, but I can't see anyone doing it better than what we ended up with.
Gollum....hmmm. What are we going to do with the characters, for sure? The new actors would always be unfavorably compared to the originals.

I never said I don’t want to see these stories. All I said was that I don’t think Warner Bros can make films based on the Second Age as Amazon have that deal on blame with Embracer Group or whoever owns these rights nowadays.

whats the fascination with Gollum?
Amazing performance which has become so iconic. However, it’s definitely best suited as a side character not the lead in a movie or game.
It's one of the few unanswered parts of the story. It's all been addressed without redoing the stories that had been touched upon.No one is going to accept a redo.
@tonette6592 but we know some of his stories, and some is a mystery. That's what makes him a good character.
