Amazing show this week. We have an inspirational and open guest on the podcast with Ethan Suplee (My Name is Earl, The Wolf of Wall Street).
Ethan and I discuss his troubled experience with how he perceived his body throughout his life and the catalyst that drove the incredible weight loss transformation that turned him into who he is today.
We also get into his experience with drug addiction and rehab, his work in learning to love himself despite his habitual disgust, and his almost unbelievable start in this industry as an actor.

Wow, when Ethan explained the StarBucks scenario at 34:00 mins, everything just made sense to me. Even mentioning where to stand. I get stuck doing this, always have. And when it doesn’t work out how I planned, I feel shit for days. Thank you. Now I know I’m not alone, why I do it and how a to get past it.

I’ve been listening to many of these the last 2 months catching up but this was my favorite episode. Ethan’s story 💯 real shit.
I can’t tell you how much his story about being overweight resonated with me; how your family trying to « help » you with diet as a kid gives you a shitty sense of your body. I was 10 when my mom decided that I had to stop milk and I had to drink shakes for diner (so no one other that us would know since I came back from school for dinner). How food is a drug you cannot wean yourself off. This sense of being a burden, of trying to take as less space as possible. This sense of being grotesque and still to this day being disgusted with yourself when you see a picture. I never did drugs. Never even tried because I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop if I started. Still it’s always good to have your struggles shared. So thanks to you guys.
BTW Smallville is the most accurate presentation of Kansas (coming from a native of Kansas, and from a town that would resemble smallville) that i have seen in any movie even the old Superman movies. Also Michael and Tom play the best Lex and Clark Kent.
This week’s episode was wonderful. Ethan definitely opened up. I agree that it is up to the person to make a change in their life.
Love this episode, he described everything about his life since so young facing the life, being rebel , and it’s amazing how he got recovered, it’s so beautiful the way he talks about his wife and family 💕 gorgeous episode Michael!! Congratulations 😘😘

It’s fascinating that someone can have so much early success in a biz where the odds are stacked against you, still be his own worst enemy, and bounce back from the brink.
We are truly prisoners in our own cell, and only we have the key (not my idea;) Ethan really brings that home.

Ethan seems like a very contemplative person; I especially liked the discussion about how the way other people described us as children affects our idea of self throughout our lives, and that there will be no perfection (which is true because no one is perfect...we all have things to work on).
It’s crazy how on almost every episode with every person I find alittle of my self inside of their struggles . Amazing episode as always ! Still the best lex Luthor
My heart breaks hearing he was forced to go on diets as early as 5 years old. There is nothing more damaging for a child to be made feel rejected and not accepted by their family. It kills self esteem 😔💔
It's better then having a miserable over weight kid that can't function and gets made fun of

Michael, I just discovered your show. It is fascinating. Before I started acting myself I had no idea what an emotional (and other) struggle it is to be an actor. You are constantly rejected. 90% of auditions is a rejection. Its like your entire life is a job interview. You train all the time to become better or to not loose the feeling to become somebody else. You kind of live for any kind of feedback and the less you get the more you think you suck... Oh boy this is a mental strain. And you talk about this in your show. It is so refreshing and honestly really helpful to hear that established actors have the same problems and that I am not nuts and different.
Thank you for this. I will watch many of your older shows now. Many guests that I like.

I really enjoyed this episode. I've seen other interviews of Ethan Suplee and I love his story, very impressive what he has accomplished. Also, he sounds very wise and I can see that he has got to a point where he really knows who he is.

So many things I can relate to in this conversation.. for me, for people in my life.. Most of all loving yourself through loving others, through being loved by others... I do stuff to care for my self, but loving myself is hard.. I recently got (I hope?) a new friend.. having this person want to be with me made me want to live, want to do all the things I've been putting off.. Most of it seems sort of unreal, almost fake now.. All the stuff I've managed to do is real, and I'm happy I've done it. But I'm not sure if I mean anything to this person.. and I'm not able to help this person in return. I guess we can't help people who doesn't want help. In between he agrees, but the next second it's forgotten or he says he can do it himself. I keep trying, and I give more of myself than I should.. I don't regret anything, but my depression sort of feels worse in the periods he wants to be alone in his misery. And all the stuff I've done.. what was the point.. I'm trying my best to not care too much about him, to better take care of myself. ... It's really hard to care about my self when noone else shows they care. I know there are people who care about me, but when I rarely see these people.. The thought alone doesn't count.

On a more serious note, it's awesome to see him where he is these days. He was always a great actor with a lot of range and has a lot of great roles in his career, but it's great to see him having addressed his personal stuff and potentially avoided a Farley/Belushi/Candy kind of situation.
