- Hello Darlings, in today's video Chi and I will be comparing our home languages that come from the same tribe (Nguni). isiXhosa and Ndebele are quite similar but also very different as certain words mean different things. Hope you enjoy this video, don't forget to Like, Comment and Subscribe and I will see you in my next video!

Basically Zim Ndebeles, zulus, xhosas and the guys from Swaziland can meet for the first time without ever speaking the other languages but still they will understand each other without any problems.

Nope... I try to watch isiNdebele news and I dont understand a word.

Happy to see my Ndebele home girl representing us very well. Siyabonga MaVumabalanda. This is a brilliant video. Thank you for this. I didn't have a problem adjusting to the socio-cultural environment when I started living in Port Elizabeth. I must add that isiXhosa is an official language of the Republic of Zimbabwe and there are many Xhosa speaking communities and rural areas in Zimbabwe. There is an official chieftaincy of the Xhosa people in Zimbabwe led by McCleod Isolengwe Tshawe and many rites of passage practiced by Xhosa people. In fact, of the 16 official languages spoken in Zimbabwe, 9 or 10 of them are also indigenous languages in South Africa, including Tswana, Sotho, Xhosa, Tsonga, etc... All spoken in one dialectical form or another. The problem is the onslaught of cultural genocide perpetrated by the government. Basically, I'm saying Africa is a continuum of culture and languages. Great work ladies!
This woman speaks very bad siNdebele: For example, we use igama, ithangazi (or ithanga), uyakhuluma, umlilo uyavutha in standard siNdebele. She must have learnt siNdebele from the street of Bulawayo. Umlenze ngowenkukhu or inyamazana. She has made a lot of mistakes, I don't know where she comes from. Proper siNdebele is spoeken in Esigodini, Filabusi, Ntabazinduna, Spezini, Lupane, Nkayi, Bubi and parts of Tsholotsho. Ndebele sometimes has 3 to 4 words for each meaning, reflecting how it developed as a language. Such word may have been brought into it by the Zulu, Swati and Xhosa- the main groups that controbuted to siNdebele nation. SiNdebele is not a language, it is a Zulu dialect.

So in other words, the siNdebele vocabulary is a conglomerate inculcation of isiZulu siSwati and isiXhosa, making it a big vocabulary
EsiNdebeleni akula Moyo lihole leli
Hello I'm shona but I can speak ndebele. I would also like to learn Xhosa it's such a beautiful language. Ndiyaluthanda ulimi lwakho ndifuna ukuluthetha
In Zimbabwe Ndebeles and Xhosas we stay together
I am Shona and I learnt to isiZulu/Ndebele mix in Pretoria but when I moved down to Cape Town, isiXhosa almost finished me, lol. These guys can click the tongue I don`t in how many different ways. The first time I heard a lady saying to one of my guy, ''Úyageza", I was like whats wrong with that and how does it connect with the kind of agreement we were having😄😄😄only to learn later that ukugeza is not batjhing in isiXhosa but being disrespectful.
I love the xhosa ascent i liked hearing my friend speaking it

It is interesting how the Bantu languages are similar. In Uganda, the major Bantu languages (Luganda, Runyankore, Rukiga etc) have similar words and terms with the same meaning as Nguni words, "Nyama" is meat and in Uganda it is mainly pronounced "Enyama" to mean "meat". it is also used in Kiswahili.
Just like shona and venda some of the words sounds similar but sometimes different meaning
Liked when I heard Bulawayo! Hometown represent.

In South Africa we have two versions of IsiNdebele language. One is influenced by Sepedi and the other sounds more like Xhosa and Afrikaans
That’s interesting I’m also a Mabena and the zim Ndebele is influenced mainly by the amaNala dialect.

I am Zulu and I go to Zulu Catholic Mass and we've been singing the Gloria in Ndebele and I found out like 3years letter that, that Ndebele and tune was from Zim and actually nit Zulu Ndebele, the way it is so similar to Zulu. I thought maybe there was a miss print in "Kweliphezulu' intsead of 'Kweziphezulu'
Now curious to know which tune of udumo?
The fact that you only discovered that means that Northern Ndebele is more like a dialect of Zulu than it's own language
Well done ladies.
Please look for AmaXhosa akuMbembeezi, it would be great to compare IsiXhosa Sethu.

To the zim lady “ijwabu” in Ndebele is skin as in the skin on your body but I have also heard the word ijwabu being used for foreskin. Fatty meat is simply inyama elamafutha and if it has gristle its called “inyama elemsipha”.

Ngwani is from the word kowani which is Sotho or Tswana word and thus the Ndebele language incorporated many language along the way.

Northern Ndebele is from Zimbabwe. Southern Ndebele is Limpopo. The Ndebele evolution is one of travel. Passed through the Limpopo's etc. The real Ndebele's are the Limpopo guys. We are hybrid Nguni's and non-Nguni's of Swati, Zulu, Ndebele, Hlubi, Xhosa, Sotho, Pedi, Venda, Tswana and Kalanga stock. The majority are Kalanga's influenced by Zulu Nduna's.
In Zimbabwe we speak all the SA languages and more.
@@t.bozmkw3562 what do you mean by "REAL Ndebeles"? We all originate from KZN but fled during the battles in days of Shaka. Those who settled in Limpopo (ba ga Kekana) were influenced by Pedi speaking people
Yeah, it seems (please do correct me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to learn!) that there are three Ndebele groups. The Southern Ndebele in SA, the Northern Ndebele in SA and the Northern Ndebele in Zim.

How is she Ndebele nxa esithi abakibo baqhamuka eMashonaland🤨
Ndebele is her mother tongue. Her father is Shona
So she’s a Shona who speaks Ndebele then, she not a Ndebele herself.
Not that there’s an issue with her being Shona but considering the dynamics of oppression it gets a bit politIcal when Shonas go to Matebeleland and start calling themselves Ndebele just because they speak the language
@@Thabo616 but then again there is assimilation dating back from Mzilikazi. Hence Ndebele people in Zim we are separated into 3. AbeZansi ( True Ndebeles oKhumalo) forgot the middle one then AmaHole (those who were assimilated into the Ndebele Kingdom by Mzilikazi). I have a Shangaan surname but l was raised by a Sotho mother however l identify myself as Ndebele not Shangaan or Sotho.
Just because her father is Shona does not mean she has no choice to identify with her mother's roots. She was raised by a Ndebele mother, speaking isiNdebele and following the Ndebele traditions. She was assimilated into the Ndebele Kingdom qha.

Bokwe is not Xhosa. Goat is Imbuzi!!! Bhokwe comes from Bok (buck).
thank you!!!
You are correct but not 100%. In Frontier batter economy the original goat and sheep stock were replaced by Merino sheep and Boer bok. The Xhosas took the new name of Bokhwe for the goat and for the sheep the name for sheep became igusha. The name igusha is of Khoisan origin, so Xhosas adopted it for the new breed of sheep. This is because the Khoisan were also participants in the Frontier exchange economy. It might be that Xhosas were differentiating indigenous specifies from acquired species. However the Xhosa bible translators are using imvana or ixhwane for the lamb(sheep) . The Zulus adapted these new species for economic reasons but kept using the indigenous names.
