I own the 317e version of this guitar, and purchased it for the same price these AD versions are going for today. Glad I did. I enjoy Taylor guitars for what they are. I don't like comparing them to martin or gibson. If you like a martin dreadnaught, then that's what you need to play. If not, then don't play this guitar. It's like complaining that a Ford isn't like a Chevy... no kidding? Taylor guitars are taylor guitars. They're different, with a different sound, feel, look, and construction. Taylor guitars are consistent, and the company provides good customer service. Haha, I see Taylor get so much hate, and I understand, but I'm also amazed so many consumers get stuck on things they think are fundamentals but aren't. Such as that X bracing or V bracing is the best, when the answer is, neither are. If you talk to enough luthiers you'll learn that there are as many ways to make a guitar as their are people on this world. It's almost as if many players have come to the conclusion that we've improved on all that's able to be improved on in the guitar making world. That the 000, OM, and Dreadnaught styles are likened to the trinity. Interestingly enough, CF martin came up with an X brace design that was so different because he was trying to innovate the guitar. And as it was in his day, so it is in ours; the mental inertia that people carry towards accepting anything different. Bolt-on's aren't bad. Leo fender made a break through with his telecaster. Martin did the same with his X brace, and Torres with his improvements over the soundboard of the guitar. Is Taylor making a break through with their new v-class... maybe.... maybe not? I'm not sure. Is it different? Yes. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Again, I've never seen anyone in a sound state of mind enter a Ford dealership looking for a brand spanking new Silverado. But in the guitar world, we always do this comparison from one maker to the next. And if you took the time to go down the rabbit hole, you'd realize how imperfect of an instrument the guitar really is. Laminated tops, solid tops, double tops, x bracing, hybrid bracing, carbon fiber, plywood, and nomex... it never ends. Taylor guitars aren't bass heavy, so... if you want that, buy a guitar that is. Taylors play different, and they sound different, and that's one reason why I like taylor guitars so much. I've never been able to conform to the norm, I guess. Do I like martins? absolutely. Do I own one, absolutely not. Do I want to own one? Absolutely yes. But after playing so many different brand guitars, I happened to be enamored by all of the characteristics that Taylor guitars carry. Even guitars made in the same factory with the same materials in the exact same way will sound different from one to the other. Actually, each guitar merits the requirement to be voiced uniquely. Woods are an organic thing and all things organic vary. Add these irregularities, and the variances from one luthier to the next, based on what they hear or feel.... annnnnd you'll be sure to enter the twilight zone at some point. For me, it's the consistency, the quality of materials, and the feel of the instrument that are all very attractive to me, including its particular "Taylor sound". Every maker should be unique... no matter how much you dislike them. haha, cheers guys. keep on playing and making music.
But it's no fun if we all agree! Martin vs Taylor battles are great fun! Apples to apples Martin GPC models sound 'better' to me than Taylors in general, it's a personal preference I guess.
Agreed Samuel. I have guitars from Gibson, Taylor, and Martin including the AD-17 shown here. Which is my favorite? Depends on my mood. The immature and insecure haters need to grow up.
I played this guitar today and really liked it. I’m not a huge Taylor fan, but this particular guitar I loved. It’s not a crazy powerful guitar, it’s mellow, the clarity is just okay, but it leaves a lot of room for vocals which I love. If you’re a medium to low volume signer, this is a perfect match :)
Very balanced tone nice bass response, deep sounding bass is a winner in my book, all strings ring out with a punchy tone, really a nice looking guitar also.
I own one Martin. A OM-21. The only reason I was able to afford it was because it was a demo, and I paid it off in installments. But, I have had a total of three Taylors. People say they all sound the same, and I would tend to agree, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing. I currently have a 210e (no cutaway model), a 214ce and I used to have a Mahogany GS Mini. As you said, Taylor guitars aren’t for everyone, but I think they have a space and sound that belongs. And I don’t necessarily believe you HAVE to use a certain brand to play a certain genre. People get hung up on only playing Martins for bluegrass, and Taylors for worship music, I think my dad’s Alvarez could take on any Martin for the bluegrass sound, and if you’re a good enough player you can play anything on anything. Love your channel Jeremy.
I have loved Taylor’s since Doyle Dykes gave me his prototype 615 Rose guitar. I have had many go through my hands and have loved them all! I’ve got to try one of these. Thank you Jeremy for this video. You always inspire me my friend!
Doyle has been a friend for many years. In his early years of traveling he began coming to our church. The first guitar that Bob Taylor built for him was a black 614 with the first inlaid rose on the headstock. The neck was 1 inch and seven eights. He said it was a little too wide for his hand and he wasn’t going to keep it. Doyle gave me his half of the guitar and I paid Bob Taylor a few dollars for the other half! Doyle told me that he played this guitar at The grand old Opry and at grandpa Jones‘s funeral. I will always treasure it and his friendship!
I've had a couple Taylors a810and 410 and played a I think it was a 412 for a few years and loved and miss them all never played a bad Taylor I play a breed love and a cooking now but love the taylors
I’m a subscriber to your Channel and I’ve been wanting to step up to a solid wood guitar and I really like Taylor’s and their sound. I’ve checked out the 300 series and they were at the top of my list. Then today I went out on a whim and tried an AD17. I was blown away, it had the best feel and sound of anything in my price range and was much cheaper than the 300 series. I fell in love. And thanks to my wonderful wife I now have my early 60th birthday present. I’m feeling a bit smug that I looked at your review after I bought it and you seem to agree.
I have Martins and Taylors and Larrivees etc. While I like my Taylor, the only reason I bought it and use it is because it has hassle-free musical tone from the ES-1 pickups. I gig a lot so the Tyalor gets constant use for live gigs and none of my other guitars leave my house. That being the case, the Taylor has earned me a living and all the others have not and are an indulgence.
I’m 54 years old (trumpet player in my former life). I have decided I want to learn guitar so I can serenade my wife next year for our 30th anniversary. My childhood friend manages a music store and suggested this for me. I am totally clueless about guitars but I gave him an up to $2k dollar amount not knowing if that was cheapo or what. What I’m finding out so far, is good. I’m excited to start what will no doubt be a journey of frustration and jubilation on my way to what will at least be a heartfelt serenade even if it isn’t very good.
I like martin guitars but I love the Taylor guitars.I own both but I would part with the Martin over any of my seven Taylor guitars ,I'm a huge Taylor fan.
I was also shopping on Sweetwater for the first time for an Acoustic electric guitar, I wanted the Taylor 214CE but couldn't quite swing it. I ended up with a Breedlove SWX OA Concert CE, it is beautiful and has a great sound. The top is European Spruce, the back and sides are Myrtlewood with black walnut binding. The neck is Hard Rock Maple and the fingerboard is African Ebony. This is my first brand new acoustic guitar and it is beautiful with a awesome sound.
I had one, it was okay! I compare my feelings about it to what you said about the new Gibson Gs. For that money I'd get a 15 or 17 series martin, or a used D-18.
For my next guitar it's between a 17 series Slope shoulder Martin, an Eastman E10ss-v slope shoulder, or an Epiphone inspired by Gibson J-45 or Epiphone Masterbuilt Texan. I really wanted an Iris guitar but they are a pretty penny compared to these. Not that they aren't worth it but yeah.
I didn't have that particular 17 but I did have its daddy the 717e and it was fantastic sounding and playing guitar. They are obviously venturing into Martin and Gibson territory with this guitar no doubt. I ended up selling it though. Wasn't quite attached to it as I am of my 1995 814, 2014 514, and Martin D28 Custom Shop.
I was close to pulling the trigger on one of these. But it showed up to my local shop with some very slight damage from being on display. And the sound did not wow me like I anticipated. I really wanted to love this guitar, guess I’ll keep “hunting”. 😁
I like my Taylor guitars. I don’t have a favorite because they all sound different. I also have a vintage seagull guitar. I truly love her! She is my favorite. I have had her for 17 years. I have tried Martin and Gibson but I just can’t wrap my head around them. Oh and Sweetwater is a great company! P.s. my AD12e is outstanding!
You can pick these up for under $1,000, with the ES2 pick-up. As a lefty I've owned and sold many guitars. This one actually records and plays great for someone who gigs, writes and records music. I ordered a Gibson Songwriter Standard and can't wait for it to come in, but I also own a Gibby 74 Custom Dove and a Taylor 814ce. I'll always love Taylor guitars, I gigged quite often with a 414ce and the Ovankol sound is one of a kind. Although I have played them all, a Taylor is great for live performances as it is the easiest for me to play. Just buy what feels right. Don't be afraid to return guitars quickly if you don't like the sound. Happy trails!!
I have the Taylor GTe blacktop and absolutely love it. It is my go to guitar and I play it everyday. If I didn't have a Taylor 322 CE I would buy an AD.
I had an 814ce that I ended up trading in because it was so bright and pop-y. that kinda soured me on Taylor for a while...until I played the all Koa 224ce. hot damn that thing was so easy to play and sounded exceptional for a $1600 guitar!. gotta get me one of those thing. I also tried one of these and was not impressed. thanks for the update brotha!
Have you tried the 324ce? it really sounds great with that deep bass sound. Looks like a hot rod. Just curious your thoughts on the 324ce. I like Martin but not over Taylor and yet I have 2 weeks to decide on this guitar. I never thought I’d even own a 2000 dollar guitar. I own 3 Taylor’s now and love them all for their uniqueness. My next one might be a different brand to try but for now I love Taylor.
The back on your AD is awesome. I got myself a 327e this year, luckily it was b stock and the same price as the AD series new. The AD was a great option I also considered. The black top especially.
I just wanted to add on the comment about Sweetwater and Taylor both are very exceptional when it come to customers . I got a builders edition K24ce from them and we’ll when it arrived 😐 had a crack long enough and big enough to see inside the guitar. So I called my rep and they had a replacement in the mail next day delivery. Coolest thing is I’ve been after this guitar since it’s release and for a week I had two in my house lol . Actually 3 in total I have a 816 builders edition too so I was getting goosebumps and my stomach would drop when I walked in my room just on account of the amount of really nice guitars I all of a sudden acquired but point is I’m all about local music store support but I think Sweetwater is really amazing honestly. Just wanted put that in
I had a guitar for past the return days with them and they still let me return my prs for a taylor deal they had going on they even paid for shipping for me. Their customer service is the best
I recently spent about an hour in the largest Taylor dealer in the region and sampled (I'm a beginner, so I can't say I "played") a dozen or so guitars, mostly Taylors, including two or three AD-17's. That was first-hand experience in how different guitars, even of the same model, can sound very different. Of the three AD-17's, one was love-at-first-strum, but alas, I wasn't at a point where I could pull the trigger on a purchase. But, I now know that when that time comes, I will take the time to find one that plays as well as that one, assuming that one isn't still there.....fingers crossed.......
Great video Jeramy! You know, I had thought about buying one of these while back but then I played a J 15 with walnut back and sides and I was really impressed. I might move more that direction in the future. I’d still love to try the AD17 though.
I bought the ad 27 and tried to upgrade my bridge pines too ebony ! And it killed the tone !! I put back the plastic ones !! But i have too admit the ebony ones gave a much more warmer tone all around and less buzzing with heavy strumming !
I want to add something about Taylor/Martin guitars; I bought this same guitar the month they came out last year, I noticed graphing on the top like Jeremy's AD17e (you can see it at some point in the video - braces showing through the top), which can be normal, more pronounced with the matte black.... anyways, I took it to the factory to get it looked at, and they confirmed it was out of spec (top was too thin). They offered me a replacement, I asked if I could upgrade to the one with electronics and pay the difference, they gave it to me free of charge since I had a problem with a brand new guitar. That blew me away, but if I ran a company like Taylor I would do the same.... Now lets talk Martin, I have several 8+, but one in particular (OM-28E - $3,500), needed a neck reset the first year of ownership, and a bridge re-glue. All under warranty....its at the factory as I type this getting the bridge re-glued or the top looked at, who knows, it keeps getting a gap and the local luthiers cant fix it.... needless to say, it's been a massive disappointment... I have owned it for almost 2 years and has had the issues of a 40+ year old guitar. Martin wont replace it. I'm stuck with it, no chance in selling it and being honest to the buyer about the guitar's extensive issues, I wont do that. I have spent so much time / energy / and money driving around to take it to different martin "authorized repair shops" and talking to the CS rep over email. so much so, that the last time the bridge got re-glued they swapped my Fishman electronics for the LR baggs anthem (pick up had to be removed, so I asked...).. pretty nice, but I still think a company that sells a product that is faulty - such as my OM-28E - should replace it, like Taylor did. I get that they have their long standing policy/history (or whatever) of not replacing guitars, but it seems a little outdated, irresponsible, and immoral to force a buyer to be stuck with a product that isn't satisfactory / faulty, especially when it costs $3,500.
I had an issue with my Martin 000. I kept hearing something rattle inside the body- it turned out to be wood shavings. I thought no biggie just clean it out and all will be fine. Two days later after taking it out of case to play, I noticed it again. Contacted customer support and was told got to go to Martin certified luthier in my area to see if there wasn’t any serious issues going on. I was very fortunate I had just picked up this guitar at guitar center less than two weeks before contacting Martin, and I just decided to return it to guitar center for a full refund no questions asked. Thankful I did because any guitar costing close or above $2k should not have any issues, especially brand new!
@@aa.mirezZ yup. Martin actually replaced my OM-28 for a brand new one and this new one has finish issues. Cloudy finish on the back and front. This is insane to me.
It's funny when I think of Taylor I think church worship band. They have been sort of the "go to" for people in my area. While I own one and used it for years of ministry and loved it to death but for me they seem to lack a certain mojo (even my old "go to" guitar) that appeals to me currently. That said I think they are built well, are consistent and have a strong appeal and important place for many.
sold my Taylor GC3 to my daughter (she had wanted it for years) and got an AD17e. Love it! Last night I realized she go the 'better' guitar overall even though it's older and a 'lower' model level....BUT they play so well togeher and we share giutars anyway....Very proud to own them both. The ovangkol and eucalyptus are awesome...very natural sounding.
Sounds great! I think I tried one of these recently and wasn't completely blown away but this sound fab. Open tuning, perhaps? That might be helping with the rich tone.
I have 2 dream guitars. One is a 1965 D18 that was a friend of mine’s. He passed and I got his banjo. Later my father in law got his guitar. Lucky me, I get to play it and I will own it some day. The other is a 1942 D-18 another friend owns. I don’t think I have a chance. It’s worth a ton and I think family might get it. Maybe they’ll sell it and I’ll hit the lottery.
I personally don't care about the tone, they all seem to sound the same. The quality has dropped from 20 years ago. Love my tailor 12 555. But my MARTIN kills it.
@@jeffsquires6620 Jeff, I've found, like with any other guitars, the tone wood makes a huge difference in sound. I've played an old Taylor 710, mahogany/spruce dred that sounded great! My GAMC, cedar/mahogany is awesome for finger style. The 914C, rosewood/Inglemann is a nice all around player. I must admit, all of my Taylors are from the mid 90's, so I don't have any experience with their new guitars. That said, I thought Jeremy's guitar sounded very good.
I did they same thing, I bought a Huss & Dalton RD-R and a Gibson J45 and have not looked back. Taylors are well built and sound good but I prefer the character of my J-45 and Huss & Dalton now.
@@rosewoodsteel6656 they sound great amplified. Still sound the same. Not a fan of satin tops. I also have a 91 J200, it is maple. Sounds different from my other acoustics. Ever play a classical.
The R 10 :) I just got one for my students. Cool little ribbon. Sweetwater is an amazing company! Nobody stands behind their sales like they do. I've been in the business for 40 years and they are the absolute best.
I just bought a 1976 Moze 18D-45. He worked with Taylor, Radding, and Breedlove at Dreams Guitar MFG. Quite a story about that shop and the people who worked there.
I have an Ovangkol b/s guitar and it’s my favorite tone wood. Rich and deep low end with bright high end, but not quite the scooped mid range of rosewood.
Taylor guitars do support their products, and some of their guitars are without comparison like the 816ce Builders Edition with the sound port that doesn't hurt people's hearing aids. I've had great results with Martin. Not so much with Huss and Dalton Brand new guitar.
Not sure if I am seeing correctly or if it is the light or maybe a mark from Jeremy’s hand, but in the video it looks like there is a dent/dip in the top, in front of the bridge, above the low E string. As for the guitar overall, it sounds good, but isn’t it just Taylor’s take the Gibson slope shoulder/Southern Jumbos?
Thanks for the review. I have my Baby Taylor with me on this deployment with the Army. I think my wife is going to pull the trigger and buy this for me when I get home.
I've always been pretty fond of Taylor guitars. I recently got a 424ce walnut for about the same price as that AD17e and I love it. That Grand Auditorium body style is something I just really vibe with. I fingerpick, flatpick and strum and it's just perfect for all those things. Sounds wonderful recorded too. I've never tried an American Dream series guitar before but I'd like to try one. My dream guitar has always been the K24ce.
@@ekrasavin Thomann's 70th anniversary sale. They currently have a 517e for way below MSRP too. As for my 424ce, I love it! I've wanted an instrument in this class for many years. It's quite the experience; I'm amazed at how it sounds just strumming the same chord repeatedly. It plays great, love the wider neck. It records wonderfully too.
@@EzyoMusic yeah, i know about 70th ann, and ive picked up one 214 dlx for 1190 euro, but it was in january, and now i think about 517, but im not sure about urban ironbark wood ))
@@ekrasavin Nice. I got the 424ce for €1849. Normal pricing seems to be around €2999-3399. I wasn't sure about all-walnut but the deal was to good to pass up so I went for it.
Jeremy hey! What do you think of the 324ce ? I just bought one and I really love it for the sound and the looks. It’s not that spruce top type boom but it’s very nice sounding and has that deep tone but yet it hits the highs and mids. In my opinion. I don’t always have the best ear. Do you like the 324ce? I have a few weeks left to decide but I think I’m staying with it. Would love your opinion. And Kris over at Sweetwater in sweet home Indiana is an awesome dude who works there. He always answers every question and never is pushy. Love Sweetwater!! Let me know your thoughts if you have a minute. Blessings !!
I bought an Taylor Academy 10e as my first acoustic. I really like it. Maybe if I ever get somewhat more than a beginner, I’d get that AD017e. Looks pretty. I like how it sounds
I love the look and the sound. I'm thinking of buying one. BTW, love the shirt, can you put a link in the description for that particular shirt please? Thank you! You're awesome
I just ordered an AD17e Blacktop that I'm taking on my European tour in June and at the end, I'm going to find a deserving Ukranian refugee who lost their guitar(s) back home - and I'm going to give them the guitar as my gift of hope and love from Nashville. Let me know if you know of someone or just send them to my show in Prague June 24th so I can meet them. I'm stoked to be doing some good on this tour. Aloha!
I know you try a lot of guitars. How is this similar and different from a DSS-17? Both stripped back slope shouldered dreadnaughts at about the same price and released within a few years of each other. I was surprised I couldn't find any comparison vidoes.
Wow, this is ironic. If you freeze the video at 7:11 which is exactly when you reference TOP CRACKS, you can see this new V Bracing very badly stressing the top of this $1,600 guitar- as if it is about to crack at any moment. You can see it just in front of the bridge above the thick (top) E string. No thanks. For those who roll the dice, what happens after the warranty is over? You would be out a lot of money. It must be the new V bracing and perhaps thinner tops? Instead of this AD guitar, I am going to pick up a tried and true Martin OM-28 and be done. It about 2x the price but it is actually the better value. To my ears, the sound and quality is night and day better. I won't have to worry as much about it cracking and I won't be inclined to sell it in a year or two and taking a ~$800 loss. I was very close to buying a 414ce, then the nicer 714ce but I am just not hearing much base with the new V bracing. It's very disappointing because they are beautiful guitars and they feel great to play. The tone is just too tiny for me and nearly no base- it's obviously lacking unless you plug in and crank up the base. Even this guitar seemed to have more base than a far more expensive 714ce but the tone was not as nearly as good. I definitely would still consider a 414 or 714 but it would have to be before 2018 and I am not seeming many of them out there. I also worry about buying a used 4+ year guitar, not knowing how it was cared for. No idea why Taylor went to V bracing- they have lost a lot of customers.
I just watched your video on the Sheeran and was wandering if you still liked the blacktop. So I went to look for the first video when you got it, so I could ask about it. Way ahead of me. Lol Thanks for all your videos!
I appreciate their craftsmanship but their prices are astronomical for what you get. They can ask $1800 for a guitar like this because of the name on the head stock; Yes, I understand many others do as well. I’d love to see you do a review on Yamaha’s A series or their Red Labels or on Alvarez’s Masterworks series guitars. All Solid wood guitars that are a better bang for the buck than Taylor’s in my opinion.
What are the strings ya got there? Can't quite tell. Might be a nickel/monel? Martin Retros (ironically) are THE string for my Taylor AD 27e, with the mahogany top. Very clear sounding strings (not a lot of zing) and the Mahogany-Sapele combo is an interesting twist on a Taylor-treble sound. (For the Taylor hater talks, I own four guitars: Santa Cruz D-12 Norman Blake, Martin M-36, Guild M-20 and the Taylor AD27e.
@@JeremySheppard Interesting. Some folks don't like them with rosewood and ovankol is said to be rosewood-esque. They do work great with pick-ups, I know. Keep me posted.
Guitars come and go. Your buying power increase or decreases. Likes and dislikes change. Playing styles change. Your guitar’s purpose in your life changes. One brand is not unequivocally better than the rest. I recently sold my Martin GPC-16E in rosewood and replaced it with a Taylor 314CE Ltd with a Torrified top and Sapele. That doesn’t mean the Martin is junk and now Taylor’s are to be worshipped. Having different guitars come in and out of a person’s life is a gift. Try to enjoy each and everyone of them for their differences. It will make you a better player.
very, very well said! ^ that was poetic man. this is the most expensive guitar to date ive bought, but theres something that always wishes it had something "better" being as this is the most affordable 'merican made all-wood guitar i could find. Hoping to get a gibson dove someday or martin d28.
I notice that your guitar appears to have a 2-piece back. My AD17e seems to have a 3 or possibly 4 piece back. (I really like it. It’s really responsive and packs a good punch.) I’ve checked the specs on the Taylor website and it says the ad17s have 2-piece backs. However mine isn’t the only one I’ve seen with a 3 (or 4?) piece back. What are your thoughts about this? Do you think the back construction makes much of a difference here?
Taylor Make Beautifull guitars but the pick up E2 system is ounds like car board I have a K24ce but I play it unplugged !! I am stresed out everytime I plugged it Iwish they came with the Lr baggs Anthem
These come with medium gauge strings. Just so everyone knows. Basically Taylor’s sales have taken a dive after the media’s pushing of the V-bracing has quieted down. V bracing may give better intonation and whatever else Taylor said, but it killed and washed out the quality of sound produced by a Taylor guitar with it. So to combat that, they are putting medium gauge strings on these newer models. It will be happening to the other models if the sales continue to slide. On the plus side used Taylor guitars with X bracing have really held their value.
Honestly I wasn't that impressed with the sound. However, I have been very impressed with some other models of Taylor I've played. Maybe I'd have to hear it in person. The looks however are beautiful. I believe my next guitar will be the Martin D-15M Streetmaster.
@@JeremySheppard gotcha, they may have changed it at some point then because the website says Mahogany now. Beautiful guitar nonetheless, I may need to pick one up!
I have a big baby Taylor. I think it sounds the same but I believe your playing is different than mine. We might be different people in this life ;) lollllllllll
I'm seriously considering buying this for my 50th birthday next month. Update....went Guitar Center in Avondale AZ to play one and that is the worst managed guitar store I've ever been in. Their acoustic section is downright terrible. The guitars (all of them) are set up poorly and the selection is brutally bad. They had one of these in stock and it was a poor representation of a Taylor guitar. Super dusty, high action and the strings must have been dead. Needless to say I didn't buy one.
Jeremy. Nice video. Actually Taylor is not my thing, though they make a great instrument with price points for nearly everyone. To me personally, they seem too trendy. It that is just me. It looks like you bought one at a reasonable retail price. But for lower, the perspective buyer needs to check to be sure they know what they are buying-- is the wood a laminate or solid? Both are ok, but know before buying. Learning afterwards is disheartening regardless of how great the sound may be.
personally if i have the money i would rather choose furch. the canadian brand claude. collings and washburn guitars if they still exist. also greenfield guitars .
That guitar looks great. I go back and forth on Taylor’s. To date, I couldn’t pull the trigger on a solid wood Taylor due to the price point. Instead, purchased a Gibson J15 before their pricing shot up. I really like the J15 sound. How would you compare this? Thank you and thanks for your videos
@@JeremySheppard I have a 20 year old Martin D15. Lots of dings and no binding. No separation so hopefully your Taylor experiences the same good fortune. Cheers.
I have an academy 10e, and I played the ad17 at the store and I gotta say, for the money, my academy is a better sounding, more playable guitar, just in my own experience
@@rosewoodsteel6656 perhaps! All my speakers, earphones and headphones seem to be have a Martin bias, most Martins sound good through them especially the vintage ones Jeremy found in the Shenandoah valley! ruclips.net/video/zZu0EZpN80I/видео.html
gauge 11 i think is the proper strings for taylor guitarsvnot the twelve nor 10 . thirteen is too tough 10 is too thin 12. is deaf and hard to fret pluck or strum. and the string brand is ghs not elixir.
taylor guitars must improve in their pick ups gadget. theres sonething wrong with the volume or the gadget per se. ive searched far and wide for a guitar ampli for my tailor but to no avail tge cukprit is in taylors pick up itself. it wont give you the volume nor faithful sound it should project. i bought mine in san francisco usa and brought it here to the philippines. its sturdy . but its not the same sound. here when i test playedvit in usa.
Me too. My assistant came over the other day and in the middle of a sentence got lost. Looking at the Taylor and said, " that guitar is so beautiful..."
Very well said, Samuel.
But it's no fun if we all agree! Martin vs Taylor battles are great fun! Apples to apples Martin GPC models sound 'better' to me than Taylors in general, it's a personal preference I guess.
@@BanglaAve totally agree and completely justified
Even the same model of guitar will sound different to each other,
but its fun to compare.
You’ve made a good point well said 🎸🎶✌️
Agreed Samuel. I have guitars from Gibson, Taylor, and Martin including the AD-17 shown here. Which is my favorite? Depends on my mood. The immature and insecure haters need to grow up.
I actually bought one of these 2 weeks ago. Best guitar I've ever played let alone owned. Thanks.
Went back and purchased it :) Very happy :)
Wow! How 😎 cool! Now that is a story that you could expound on, please. I'd like to hear more!
Well said… at 66, I got rid of all my “indulgences”, and gig with a RainSong with a Stagepro Anthem…
Recording King OM for 1099 is better than this. Ebony, adirondack, rosewood, abalone. No fugazi 'eco conscious' woods like ovangkol and eucalyptus
How did it go?
I have purchased four guitars from Sweetwater. Nothing but good things to say about them!
@@williamcatalano1762 I love my Iris. Not sure I can afford another guitar for years.
@@bphh I'd love one too, but I just got a Gibson L-00 4 months ago so I'm not really wanting to break the bank again yet haha
@@williamcatalano1762 00017's are amazing, but have you tried the 00015sm? I ve got one and it is pretty sweet .
@@rosslynemrys5829 Nope haven't seen one in person, but they look awesome!! I have a D-15m though already. I've had that for 12 years now and love it.
I bought the AD17e twenty minutes ago and THEN visited your video! Nice to know I made a good decision. And I bought it from Sweetwater.
Hey Jeremy, I also meant to tell you that I loved the song! Keep singing for us….we are listening.
I played a AD17 black top today. It sounded amazing to me, like most Taylor guitars I’ve played.
It's cool to see/hear your playing. You've improved over the years! good sounds
William, I was thinking the exact same thing. Jeremy has moved to another level before our very eyes.
I really liked your instrumental riff about 4 minutes in. I'm planning on getting one of these this summer. Thanks for helping me with the decision.
Martin is ass when it comes to warranties. They act like people need their company more than their company needs them.
@@isadorealire5722 I get the same feeling - i owe them, not the other way around. Shameful.
Good choice!
Sounds great! I think I tried one of these recently and wasn't completely blown away but this sound fab. Open tuning, perhaps? That might be helping with the rich tone.
Honestly it could be the stores set up or lack there of etc as well of the one you tried out
I have 2 dream guitars.
The guitar sounds awesome.
Nice job 🎶👍
I’ve gotten over Taylor guitars. I have sold all of mine except my GS-Mini. I favor the tones of my Martins and Gibson acoustic guitars.

Taylor's have never done anything for me but ...... this one sounds great I must say.
They have one of these at my local place. I'm going to take a look.
Taylor guitars do support their products, and some of their guitars are without comparison like the 816ce Builders Edition with the sound port that doesn't hurt people's hearing aids. I've had great results with Martin. Not so much with Huss and Dalton Brand new guitar.
One of my dream guitar.😭❤❤
@Jeremy Sheppard - which would you recommend? Taylor AD17, AD27 or 214? Using in a church band setting. Thank you!
I know you try a lot of guitars. How is this similar and different from a DSS-17? Both stripped back slope shouldered dreadnaughts at about the same price and released within a few years of each other. I was surprised I couldn't find any comparison vidoes.
1699 I mean I payed almost 2000 for my 224 koa deluxe and mine is made in Mexico and yours is American made right?
Just woke up, I guess I'll watch it with the coffee 😅
Hey Jeremy, how do you think these would cut through in a mid to large bluegrass jam-with D-28s or in a bluegrass band
Like playing air guitar? 😂
I am not too happy with the sound of Ad27e, thinking about this model ..
Martin retros, you put the bug in my ear.
@@JeremySheppard Interesting. Some folks don't like them with rosewood and ovankol is said to be rosewood-esque. They do work great with pick-ups, I know. Keep me posted.
I've always found Taylor guitars to be a hit/miss. Sometimes they can be a bit too bright sounding for my ears.
That high E string though, or maybe all three treble strings just sound harsh to me, yo7 can hear this really harsh clanging sound to them.
How would you compare this with a j45? Thanks
I've had Gtars come and go , but not all go ...
very, very well said!

Aren’t these walnut back and sides? I believe the natural colored tops are the ovangkol
It was ovankol. I just double checked the spec sheet from my order from Sweetwater
Jeremy, if you get a head cold, drape a hot towel over the fret board and breathe deeply.
Hahah
😂🤣😂🤣😆😂
Omg, this is priceless!
I belong to the sound hole sniffer club and this should be on a sticker and t-shirt!
Get a j45 and call it a day
Every Friday look forward too live show, what happened?
I love a good warm sounding bass but GOD I HATE the shape of dread noughts
I'm seriously considering buying this for my 50th birthday next month. Update....went Guitar Center in Avondale AZ to play one and that is the worst managed guitar store I've ever been in. Their acoustic section is downright terrible. The guitars (all of them) are set up poorly and the selection is brutally bad. They had one of these in stock and it was a poor representation of a Taylor guitar. Super dusty, high action and the strings must have been dead. Needless to say I didn't buy one.
Sweet looking guitar ,
I wanna try one so badly!
Jeremy.
I'd love to hear the whole song
personally if i have the money i would rather choose furch. the canadian brand claude. collings and washburn guitars if they still exist. also greenfield guitars .
I just played a few Furch's and loved them. I ordered a Yellow deluxe
Does the black finish result in fingerprints showing up?
Not much. It's pretty glossy for a satin finish. It needs to be seen in person, it's so cool.
I'll stick with my martins
That guitar looks great. I go back and forth on Taylor’s. To date, I couldn’t pull the trigger on a solid wood Taylor due to the price point. Instead, purchased a Gibson J15 before their pricing shot up. I really like the J15 sound. How would you compare this?
Thank you and thanks for your videos
I loove the J-15. It's brighter and more traditional sounding. Both are cool, they're pretty different. I dig the gloss on the Gibson too.
@@JeremySheppard I have a 20 year old Martin D15. Lots of dings and no binding. No separation so hopefully your Taylor experiences the same good fortune. Cheers.
What strings do you have on that guitar?
Dadarrio nickel bronze lights.
How would it do with drop C tuning?
That's pretty hard to do on any guitar. It would be better with the longer scale length.
I have an academy 10e, and I played the ad17 at the store and I gotta say, for the money, my academy is a better sounding, more playable guitar, just in my own experience
I am not getting the sound described by Jeremy through my computer speakers.. may sound different in person.
Time for a new set of speakers. :)
Yeah after comparing again this sounds too much like my walnut taylor mini
I like the paint job,saw it at Sam Ash the other day..🤣
Me too. My assistant came over the other day and in the middle of a sentence got lost. Looking at the Taylor and said, " that guitar is so beautiful..."
Can do some tutorials..😁👍🏻
