  • Is your knee pain an ACL injury? Here are the three tests you need to do to find out! Presented by a doctor of physical therapy to help you better understand your knee pain and figure out your best plan of action moving forward.
    ==================================
    ACL HOME EXERCISE ROUTINE VIDEO: • Home Exercises To Reha...
    ==================================
    WHAT IS YOUR ACL?
    Your anterior cruciate ligament (or “ACL”) is one of the 4 ligaments that holds your knee together. It runs from the front of your tibia (shin bone) to the back of your femur (thigh bone) and prevents the tibia from sliding forward out from under your knee.
    HOW DOES THE ACL GET INJURED?
    The most common injuries to the ACL happen when the knee twists, rotates, or buckles inward. This most often occurs in athletic events (soccer, football, and basketball are the three that I see the most) and the injuries can be contact or non-contact.
    CONTACT INJURY - when another person runs into your knee and injures your ACL.
    NON-CONTACT INJURY - planting and twising/rotating and injuring your ACL.
    While ACL injuries are fairly common, they are often mistook for different injuries.
    So how do your painful knee is an ACL injury? How can you check your ACL to see if it is torn and how do you know the next steps to take in managing your knee symptoms?
    THREE TESTS FOR AN ACL INJURY
    HOW TO CHECK AT HOME
    1. (1:55) HISTORY - How did the injury happen? Did you hear of feel a “pop”? Was there swelling and/or bruising? Does it feel unstable or have episodes of “giving way”? These are all indications that you may have injured your ACL.
    The nest two tests require the assistance of a partner to perform.
    2. (3:25) LACHMAN’S
    3. (4:45) ANTERIOR DRAWER
    WHAT TO DO NEXT?
    Now if you do find that you have an ACL tear, don’t worry. They are highly manageable and surgery is highly successful. But whether you will need surgery or not, the truth is EVERY person with an ACL tear should be performing some quad and hamstring exercises to help strengthen and stabilize the knee.
    This will improve function and decrease pain if no surgery is required but improve results and decrease down time if it is.
    ⭐️⭐️ If you’re looking for the right exercises to help you with your ACL tear please click on the following video: • Home Exercises To Reha... ⭐️⭐️
    This is the follow up exercise routine to this video to help that knee feel better fast.

    I've done both ACLs at different times. The 1st one was pretty obvious and it was eventually repaired. The 2nd one was looked at by both a GP and Physio and both thought it wasn't torn. When it didn't respond to treatment I got referred for an MRI and the ACL was found to be ruptured. That one was left as-is after consultation with a specialist.

    Walking my puppy, slipped on black ice and my kneecap hit the sidewalk. This was back in March, I spoke with my best friend whose a nurse, followed her recommendations for resting and taking it easy. In April, I started working as a merchandiser, going down on my knees 5 to 7 times a day, started feeling more pain 3 weeks ago, and yesterday I felt the snap.

Or if you are laying and you cross cross your ankles, bad leg over good leg. Knee pain when straightening, standing, and walking?

    I can't bend my knee at a 90 degree angle, it feels like there are rubber bands inside my knee ready to snap when I try--I cringed just watching this. Lol. I was bucked from my horse about a month ago & landed on the inside of my right knee with it bent at 90 degrees and face down. Nothing showed on xrays & CAT scan in ER. Followed up with ortho and he suspects ACL injury but I won't know until I have an MRI done on the 19th. Hoping to get some answers.

    Jared,
    A long time ago I tripped over a pallet backwards and I fell funny on my left knee and I heard a pop / felt a pop in it. It felt like it was unstable when I tried to get up from the fall. I suspect that I may have torn my ACL in my left knee. I’m not sure if it swelled up or not because I don’t swell up that easily. The bones are moving and shifting all over the place. It wakes me up at night. Ice seems to burn it and anything warm turns it fire engine red. I haven’t seen a doctor or orthopedic surgeon on it. Should I be concerned that I suspect that I may have torn my ACL?
