People talk about how clean Praia is, unfortunately this is not true everywhere. On Sal island (Which is the most popular island for tourists) the centre of the main tourist town, Santa Maria, is kept quite clean, but walk just a few minutes from the centre and it is horrifically dirty and you are still surrounded by small hotels and tourist apartment buildings so you are not "Out in the sticks" so to speak. There is so much rubbish, dog faeces and building rubble everywhere it really is disgraceful for an Island that relies so heavily on tourism. if you ask a local person about the things that are not good on Sal they will all say the same thing "All the money stays in Praia".
Don't get me wrong, I like being on Sal in winter, the climate and longer hours of daylight compared to the UK is an obvious bonus, and the local people are generally nice and pretty laid back, but the lack of cleanliness in Santa Maria is disgraceful and makes me wonder if this is true on other Islands.

    • @WillieFungo

Statues do not give vibes, where are the man? Do they have cycling lanes here? They do not have plenty of tree lines along the roads/pavement. Dominant hard surface, grey infrastructure and limited green spaces in the high street. I am learning how Portuguese lack sense of building with nature and people into built. It looks like heat Island zone, pollution drawbacks. They have slightly similar traffic lights design to South Africa. Fresh Market place is clean big up to that, most vegetables here from African decent.

Get your listening skills right my friend. I said it was the first secondary school in Praia, not the whole of Cape Verde. There was another opened in 1860. But I'm not counting that because It only lasted for 2 years. I make my content very carefully.
