This song was actually never in the musical. Rather, it was a special treat from Yorkey & Kitt, written with collaborative input from the fans over Twitter back in '09. If I remember correctly, the song was meant to in theory follow "Aftershocks." I stopped following the project before the song was finished, though, so this is my first time hearing it too! It's lovely!
gabe: have you drained all your recourses? have you overshot the mark? is the man with all the answers only grasping in the dark? you've taken from her memory the life that she survived and you can't see that without me she's really not alive you had your chance she's still not healed deep inside you still don't see the truth she keeps concealed something i can't see makes you think that she'll be fine something i can't see keeps you crossing that same line and you doctors have your ways to try and make me disappear but she's lost somewhere that you can't reach and me i'm still right here so how you think that this'll set her free is something i can't see dr. madden: i follow every guideline ask the questions check each chart but healing mind and soul is not just science it's an art with everything she's lost it's hard to see the things she's won i've done the best i could, but now at best she's come undone dr. madden (and gabe): she won't be cured (she won't be cured) she won't be tamed (she won't be tamed) she won't let go of something that she knows cannot be named something i can't see (something i can't see) dr. madden: it's alive, it's like her mind dr. madden (and gabe): something i can't see (something i can't see) dr. madden: means it's something i can't find and the mind can be so certain while the soul is full of doubt and the mind lets in the fears you hope the brain would just shut out like the fear i'll never find the final key is something i can't see dr. madden: (and gabe): i see he holds her still (i hold her still) a dream of hope that kills (i hold her still) i know there's so much left to try (i will until) i want to help, but how can i? I love how this song give some insight into Dr. Madden's character. Really shows how he cares about Dianna getting better.

How did I just find this. What I would do for an official recording of this.... Breathtaking.
gabe:
have you drained all your recourses?
have you overshot the mark?
is the man with all the answers
only grasping in the dark?
you've taken from her memory
the life that she survived
and you can't see that without me
she's really not alive
you had your chance
she's still not healed
deep inside you still don't see
the truth she keeps concealed
something i can't see
makes you think that she'll be fine
something i can't see
keeps you crossing that same line
and you doctors have your ways
to try and make me disappear
but she's lost somewhere that you can't reach
and me i'm still right here
so how you think that this'll set her free
is something i can't see
dr. madden:
i follow every guideline
ask the questions check each chart
but healing mind and soul
is not just science it's an art
with everything she's lost
it's hard to see the things she's won
i've done the best i could, but now
at best she's come undone
dr. madden (and gabe):
she won't be cured (she won't be cured)
she won't be tamed (she won't be tamed)
she won't let go of something
that she knows cannot be named
something i can't see (something i can't see)
dr. madden:
it's alive, it's like her mind
dr. madden (and gabe):
something i can't see (something i can't see)
dr. madden:
means it's something i can't find
and the mind can be so certain
while the soul is full of doubt
and the mind lets in the fears
you hope the brain would just shut out
like the fear i'll never find the final key
is something i can't see
dr. madden: (and gabe):
i see he holds her still (i hold her still)
a dream of hope that kills (i hold her still)
i know there's so much left to try (i will until)
i want to help, but how can i? (let her go)
i don't know what i don't know (you don't know)
but all i know is
dr. madden and gabe:
i can't let her go
something i can't see (something i can't see)
gabe:
leaves you somehow wanting more
gabe (and dr. madden):
something i can't see (something i can't see)
something i can't see (that i somehow)
that you somehow (that i somehow can't ignore)
dr. madden:
and i fear i've gone to far
but there's still so far to run
dr. madden and gabe:
and the race is far from over
gabe:
oh, the race has just begun
dr. madden:
and i will keep on fighting till she's free
dr. madden (and gabe):
from something i can't see (something i can't see)
something i can't see (something i can't see)
dr. madden and gabe:
something i can't see
Thank you ❤️
1:15 ugh the 'and you dOctors' makes me happy
3:13 the note at the end of that phrase - damn
3:39 oOOh :)
4:02-4:07 love that harmony
I'm actually crying from how beautiful this song is oh my gosh
This is beautiful, the harmonies are breathtaking!
That moment when you find a new Aaron Tveit video.... Sigh
My theory is that they are singing this while Dianna is recovering from AZT!! Beautiful song!!!!
I really wish this had been in the show. We have so little of Dr Fine/Madden.
How have I never heard this before?! This is breathtakingly gorgeous!! When was it cut from the musical and at what point would it have appeared?
Glorious
They should have added this. Or made it a bonus track on the soundtrack
My favorite parts 3:25 - 3:35
wau!! Aaron Tveit!
“You have a duet with Aaron Tviet tomorrow afternoon.”
Me: Note to self; call in sick tomorrow.
LOVE THIS
[loud, heavy breathing]
Is this the same as Wish I Were Here? I think they have basically the same melody.
Am I the only one who hears Jenn at 3:34??
That's Aaron Tveit's voice
