      It definitely usually is.. but at the end of the day black orphans and fostered kids need to be adopted too so someone has to do it.
      That's why we created this space for education and open communication.

    Love your videos that I have watched. As a white mother of interracial adopted children I found joining my local foster/adoptive parent association very helpful. I hope that it helped my kids see that there were other families that looked like ours, my husband and I got support in how to help our kids navigate the racial divide in the USA and we did fun stuff. This was back before the internet so for hair care help I would ask black women shoppers in Target/Walmart for advice. They were all very helpful and kind.

    I hope you both had as good a childhood as possible. I'm British so somewhat naive about the nature of race relations in the USA, but when I visited New York I was struck by the segragation and emphasis on it. I can understand that parents of a different race adopted child will need to think deeply about the experience of that child. What I find sad is that as children in the home it may not be so much of an issue, but more outside things can and will come up that need to be discussed.
    In terms of the way to cope with the experience of race in US culture, I would be curious where you stand on the views of writers like Ibram X Khendi/Robin DiAngelo vs Coleman Hughes or John McWhorter?

    • @AdoptedGals
      @AdoptedGals  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you for taking the time out to write a well thought out through message.
      It may seem like it's not an issue at home, but it actually is. It starts at home.
      The way the kids perceive themselves based on conditioning from the home will set a standard for how they show up to the world.
      You have a little girl who does not get positive attention at home from mom and dad, she will go out and try to find that validation from outside and get burned in the end
      Same with adoption. If your race and cultural identity is not celebrated, normalized and accepted, then adopted kids go out and try to find culture and identity and often hurt themselves, others or their relationship with their adoptive family.
      Will have to look these authors up. Thank you for the referral.

      @@AdoptedGals ok thanks for letting me know about this aspect. I was told that children tend not to see race in the same way as adults which is why I said that, but I can see what you mean. Best wishes.
