Or because there is an evil that will not stop until someone stands up to it. War is awful, but I won't go so low to say our veterans were simply "fools who were tricked."
Although WW2 had many more casualties and was a bigger over all conflict, I think WW1 was a much scarier war. During 1914-1918 soldiers would still bludgeon each other to death, while there were more advanced weapons used on helpless civilians and soldiers. All Quiet on the Western Front was an amazing film, but the shear detail of the movie disturbed me. It changed my entire mindset about war, and made me realise that the Germans were just the same as all of the other soldiers, because in the end, we’re all people. I hope that our generation will not have to go through anything as bad as the first two world wars. Respect to all the Jews, French, British, American and even German people who died during both of the wars.
What I love about this movie is that it doesn't try to show any "good" aspects of war as many movies do. There's no glory, no heroes. It is what it really is: only hell. There are no winners. The only winner is Death who takes all no matter what flag they carry. In the end we are all human beings, and no one deserves to live under such circumstances and witness those horrid things on the battlefield, to be stripped off any humanity and compassion and kindness.
For those who enjoyed this movie. It was meant to not enjoy it. It was meant to show people that war is not a game, not a funny adventure, it's terrible. Be thankful to your ancestors that they fought in a war so you are not forced to do it.
You can enjoy any media, regardless of it being grim and mature. I love this film for its technical aspects, the performances and the visceral grounded depiction of WW1. But it’s important to remember that even though this is based on true events, it’s still a piece of fictional media. I enjoy seeing brutal violence and gore in fiction, but of course in real life it’s completely different. At the end of the day, a film is a piece of commercialised art, and is in-part designed for entertainment - even depressing, dark and disturbing art can be entertaining. We should definitely respect and remember our courageous ancestors who were forced to endure unimaginable horrors no man should see when most of them were still practically children - but that has bearing on enjoying a movie depicting such things, since at the end of the day this is fiction, not real life.
As the second commenter on this video and adding onto the first, I'd like to expand upon their point. War is amongst the most awful, torturous events that the human psyche can experience, and yet we hoist it a top a pedestal in almost all aspects of modern day pop culture, be it video games, literature, movies, etc. All the while we'd never wish to actually experience such an astoundingly grotesque aspect of the human nature first hand
The best response I have read, regarding war. A lot of people think it's like a computer game: you are safely in your bedroom, maybe you eat some food or drink a refreshment while you are killing the bad guys. No one can harm you. Reality is quite the opposite and horrible all together. I have done my service to the army and although I never went to war, the whole experience was quite miserable: the fact that you are trained to take a great number of lives is horryfing.
@@AndrewSiachos1992I’m currently doing my service, thank you for yours. It’s not looking good for me I’ve always dreaded war and it’s becoming a reality for me very quickly.
Imagine this, Bullets flying past you as you run through a muddy hell hole. Your fellow soldiers within arms reach getting jolted by the rattling gunfire ahead. Explosions leaving you deafened and all you can see is the flash of muzzles in the horizon. We never got to experience anything the soldiers in WW1 and WW2. Crazy to think that they weren’t fighting the good fight for nothing, but for the great land we stand on today. Nothing but Respect to the Men & Women who fought 🤝
Only men fought in world war 1, and women only served in non combative roles in world war 2, respect to the *men* who built this world and made it work.
My cousin died in Ukraine war. My friend wants to enlist and go to this damn war. I'm trying to stop him and change his mind but it's not working. And im just a russian boy, wich hopes for the best. Praying this shit to end as soon as possible. But things gets even worse. I don't think that anyone will read this, but if you're reading i hope that you are doing fine. At least better than me.. All the best and value your life. ❤
Prayers to you, This senseless war must stop. War is senseless, Unlogical. War starts to simply show to the world what they are capable of?! It's as if many people don't want peace. How many more casualties innocent or not must occur until our planet is doomed?!
My friend. You must remember that this life is just a highway, some will get to the end faster, some slower. It's not at all important. This life is not as important as we think. Do not cry my Russian friend. Christ is the only one who matters. Do not ever think that you are alone or that you will ever be. I give you as much love as my not so pure Polish heart can give😉
@@David-A. I am rather confused with your assessment of 'peace'. Peace is not just confined to the notion of- no killing or no war. I may disagree with you.
Yeah my dad’s long time friend just got drafted but he just had a baby girl and bought a house. He will probably die just when his life started to turn around. Tell your friend my dad’s friend didn’t have a choice but he does. He still has a chance to live a life. I pray he doesn’t choose death before he has truly lived. If insanity was a thing we could touch that’s what war is.
War is something glorified through games and Airsoft, by normal people like me, none of us will probably experience such horrific pain and misery or the emotional things soldiers go through in the time of war. We wish to see it, meanwhile soldiers wish to unsee it. I am the first comment

I'm going to guess yr from India (sorry for assuming). You could always join the territorial army. I am aware it's more of a Paramilitary organization and it's not the same as the actual thing. Regardless, you can always serve in a different capacity and utilize that mindset, such as being part of the civil service.
You’re absolutely right! Be thankful to your ancestors and thankful for the life that has been given to us by god in this beautiful world in which the modern movement (lgbtq) does nothing but complain about

Thats a very reductive opinion of war ! It may be true for one side, but the other side is just fighting for survival, old or young

I enjoyed the realism, the fact they never used a different camera shot during the whole film, the historical accuracy, and the acting.
