Hello there! I am a new subscriber! :) I have seen some of your videos before, but I think I've actually forgotten to subscribe earlier :P I really liked this video (and the others I've seen too, though, so don't worry! :) ), and if you spent like 20 hours on it, then that is insane. And great! Thanks a lot. I agree with most of what you have said, and I have also gained some new insight regarding some of these cards. I kind of did not notice at first that "Ironclad Slayer" could bring back a "Dead Weight" or "Choking Restraints", which makes it even better! It is kind of embarrassing, as my favourite archetype is black-white delirum decks in limited, and I tend to do well with those types of decks (I also just enjoy playing with them a lot more). I have actually used "Open the Armory" to get a "Bound By Moonsilver", for instance, so "Ironclad Slayer" seems just lovely now :P With regards to the "Thirsting Axe".. I have read the comments in this comment section, but I feel like I do understand what you mean. Your creature may just deal damage and "die", but on the other hand.. as others have said, it is quite a bit of damage, and to put it on spirit tokens or other disposable creatures can be good. Although you would lose a valuable resource in the game, which is something to take into consideration. What I wonder is if we forget that if you attack with several creatures, and another creature you control (say a creature with a somewhat higher toughness) gets blocked, survives and actually deals combat damage to another creature, then all you have to do is equip the axe to that creature. In this case, both creatures survive at the end of your turn, even if the other previously equipped creature didn't deal combat damage to a creature that turn, since the ability on the axe is a triggered ability on the end step with regards to the currently equipped creature :) If the opponent doesn't block at all when you attack with, say, four creatures.. then they are not blocking your four attacking creatures and is probably taking a lot of damage! I feel it can be quite great, and even greater in aggressive decks, obviously, but equipping it onto another creature second main phase can be relatively nifty^^ Oh, and I almost forgot, you CAN equip it to "Lone Rider", gain enough life to transform it and equip it to something else.. like a "Desperate Sentry" or an "Exultant Cultist" :) Just saying xD
Thirsting Axe is good for weenie aggro decks because it gives the opponent an ultimatum: take a bunch of damage or trade off a creature. Lunar Force is also pretty good for prowess decks because you can play it before your combat and counter a spell the next turn, which is surprisingly valuable tempo when played late game.
@GG Degree, its probably a good idea to put a link in the description for any videos you link to in the video. good work, the quality of your videos gets better and better
I think you may have misevaluated Thirsting Axe. With tokens (Spirits, Zombies, Eldrazi Horrors) you can equip to the token, forcing a block or minimum 5 damage per attack. Either way, you come out happy. Rinse and repeat next turn. Certainly only useful for specific decks, but very good in those.
Quick note on contingency plan - It seems to be the case that you choose how many cards you put in your graveyard. In other words you can put none in your graveyard, and you just scry'ed five.
Great video. I was wondering though if you have any videos on figuring out how to build your mana base in different situations. Ie. On the splash, when you have a lot of double color cards, when you have 1 or 2 good early drops in a second color, etc. etc...
Of note...the new green Traverse the Ulvenwald allows you, if you have delirium, to tutor for a creature and a land card for 1 green mana...it will forever be used in eternal formats for that reason. I have a jund colors modern madness deck that uses it and boy, is it an all-star in the build.
Hey Thanks for this video. It's great to see what cards might be useful. Just a minor nitpick/constructive feedback. Sometimes when you transition to the next cards you do it way too fast. When you were showing the 3 werewolf cards that transform the othersides were on screen for like 1.5 seconds and i had to rewind the pause it and read them. I understand that this isn't meant to be a "spoiler/reveal" video. just some feedback. Do with it what you will. :) Great video though
Awesome video and very detailed review, thank you but may I recommend a a different mic or audio situation? There's a distracting "in the bathroom/tin room" sound.
Didn't know if anyone's said it but I didn't read all of the comments, if you get by chance THIRSTING AXE and HARMLESS OFFERIG, then it's a possible great card, but harmless offering is unfortunately a rare, so probably not going to happen for prerelease for very many of us.
Just curious but when you said there was no mana fixing did you just feel it wasn't worth mentioning the duel lands that could be in your sealed pool? Like the likelihood was too low to care about?
Thirsting Axe really isn't garbage. Let me explain. You pay the cost to bring it out. You center your deck around small creatures, preferably tokens, that can be used for cheap damage or chump blocking or even anthem benefits. Attach the axe onto a token when it can attack pre-combat phase, and swing with a 5-1. Most things will die to 5 damage if they choose to block, if they don't choose to block then you just dealt a 1/4 of their life total with a 1/1. Repeat this process to eliminate large creatures you couldn't normally deal with, or to get some cheap damage in on the opponent. No its not the best by any means, but it's definitely not garbage.
What color combinations are best for prerelease, just to give me an idea. Idk what to do, I feel like white and blue are maybe good because of all the flyers, but I also feel green had good combat tricks and red has decent burn. Please Read this and Help!
It's kind of hard to say, because it all comes down to your pool and not many people have played this format besides people who are testing it with friends (something I'd highly recommend doing if you can). But you seem to have a decent handle on it. Since you didn't mention black I'd say it had some of the best removal and at common a lot of solid, if not amazing, cards.
I disagree about the axe being bad if your running an aggressive deck with a ton of little warriors or what not your opponent Either blocks and most likely kills his or her creature or takes 5+ damage. not bad if u ask me
Why would you not want to run contingency plan? Even if you're just using it to fix your draw for the next couple of turn, it seems reasonable to use it. 2 mana, dig 5 deep, seems good enough to me.
I still have a bias towards GW humans and any combination of GWB delirium. But this time around I'm hoping I can open at least a decent version of UW skies.
I also enjoyed drafting UR tempo with lots of pieces at common level like the tappy zombie mangler, niblis of dusk, voldaren duelist, just the wind etc
"only one black madness card in this entire set" is in fact not true, but given that this video is only about common/uncommon I can see why you might have not related that. because Voldaren Pariah is a sweeeeet madness card in black, though BBB cost madness is a bit hard, a 3/3 flyer for 3cmc is great. plus with zombie generation this set, the flip ability can be bonkers.
I went 5-0 at my prerelease playing a janky 3 color deck by riding the 2 blood mists I pulled straight through my rounds. I didn't deal with any enchantment removal and people just can't handle a creature will double strike every turn. They kill it you just double strike another creature. Stick it on a creature with Lifelink and watch your opponents cry.
that axe isnt a terrible card. it gives you plus 4 attack and IF they dont block you lose your creature so put it on a 1/1 and you just scored 5 damage to the player.. and if they do block, you can take out a creature up to */5 so it can be a decent card for the beginning of a game. you have a nice headstart on their life counter. or it can also be useful for powering up a creature at any time or used to take them out near the end. even if you have to sacrifice a creature of any power level its still 4 additional points off the players life. lets say its a 5/4 creature ok well you just took off 9 life points.. thats like attacking with two creatures and landing two hits and them blocking and killing both but you still landed the hits and you only lost 1 creature. granted it did cost 5 mana to play. theyre going to want to block it because its a lot of life points and so youd kill their creature maybe and then attack them again on the next turn. youd have to use it very strategically for sure.
+MrStrangechange yeah, max of 19, assuming packs are normal. Of course, there is hardly any chance of this, maybe one person in the whole world who goes to a prerelease will get this many.
The fact that you make this argument without mentioning that both decks had Tamiyo in them is a little shifty. Plus, I'm not in the habit of making decisions based on small sample sizes with large outliers :p
+GG Degree I will agree that those decks came together to make Tamyo work, and they did have mana troubles, yet they were still very solid decks. If they were good only because of Tamyo, they would have made it as far as they did. Well, anyway I will be going to several prerelease events, and I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to see three color decks in action.
Thirsting axe is great i dont know how you dont see that. You just put it on an exchangable creature, and then they either block( probably losing a creature of their own) and you keep yours OR they dont and take ATLEAST 4 dmg. Mostly 5-7. HOW IS THAT A BAD CARD. The card is great and just provides a clock for your opponent.
Thanks for the great analysis! You're doing an awesome job with this channel.
splendid guide. Thank you. I always enjoy your focus on commons and uncommons, ie the cards you will actually see in sealed.
I'm glad that there are still a few channels that have digestible and high quality prerelease prep video.
Great video, helped a lot with preparation and what to draft when I attend the prerelease on Sunday :)Thanks a lot man
Pronunciation on point!... and great insights. Thanks.
Brilliant video, as usual!!!
These are the best type of videos :D
that last bit is appreciated.
:)
Cheers, this was a great way to do last minute pre release prep :P
Glad you enjoyed it :D
WELCOME TO THE FIGHT CLUB!
nice tip as usual. thanks Luc!

I was sent here from SBMTG. Great video.
Really? Awesome :) Can you post the video they said that in? I'm curious.
@GG Degree, its probably a good idea to put a link in the description for any videos you link to in the video. good work, the quality of your videos gets better and better
Added links to the description and added spotlights so you can click on the video. Was just busy being passed out :)
I got a Nahiri from a midnight pre-release of Shadows over Innistrad. Maybe I'll get a cool mythic this weekend. Thanks for posting this video.

it might be interesting with some sac outlets and emerge spells.

Haven't done a video on that, sorry :p
GG Degree No worries. Maybe a consideration for the future.
MrStrangechange
Yeah, not a bad idea :)

I know it's offtopic... But seeing Lunar Force I am very happy to have enough Sun Titans to make a deck :-D
Heck, you can do it in standard with Starfield of Nyx :)
omg... that's right. This seems even stronger o.O
+GG Degree are u going to star city in organ
good video man!
sooo impressed that it's out this early
since wizards says we're all planeswalkers does that mean heroes downfall and ruinous path are instant winds?
wins *
+Dylan Lawrence Probably not, nice hair👍.
Impressive !
subtle but brilliant.
quick concise and whitty.... im in
There is the black vampire with madness that you can sacrifice 3 creatures to transform it and your opponent sacrifices 3 creatures
that ending though, :)

I tap 3 a red and a green to cast..... GG THE KRALLENHORDE!
You noticed! I was wondering if that was wayyy to subtle xD
Voldaren Pariah is also a black madness card... :p
I want Liliana last hope. It's not because I think it is good, it's because of the sentimental attachment I have to it.
1:38 there is color fixing, you get two shadows over innistrad packs
Just curious but when you said there was no mana fixing did you just feel it wasn't worth mentioning the duel lands that could be in your sealed pool? Like the likelihood was too low to care about?
Thirsting Axe seems like it would do well with token decks
Doesn't the opponent get to choose the order in which they attack, in regards to Blessed Alliance?
good
Thirsting Axe really isn't garbage. Let me explain. You pay the cost to bring it out. You center your deck around small creatures, preferably tokens, that can be used for cheap damage or chump blocking or even anthem benefits. Slightly incorrect, LoadingReadyRun did a pre-prerelease last Saturday, and live streamed the whole thing.
The axe is fine, as it almost forces your opponent to block, and if they don't, they're likely taking around 6 on average, maybe more.
What color combinations are best for prerelease, just to give me an idea. Idk what to do, I feel like white and blue are maybe good because of all the flyers, but I also feel green had good combat tricks and red has decent burn. Please Read this and Help!

+MrStrangechange Thanks for the tips, so how should I go about testing the cards? Proxies
Bijan Ashtiani Pretty much. I've been using sealed simulators and using proxies accordingly.
I disagree about the axe being bad if your running an aggressive deck with a ton of little warriors or what not your opponent Either blocks and most likely kills his or her creature or takes 5+ damage. not bad if u ask me
Its can be especially good in the late game where its either they block it or they die.
Mini Zem very true!
Why would you not want to run contingency plan? Even if you're just using it to fix your draw for the next couple of turn, it seems reasonable to use it. 2 mana, dig 5 deep, seems good enough to me.
I agree, heck! its basically a scry 5 and dump your shit cards in the graveyard.
What arcutypes does everyone like?
I still have a bias towards GW humans and any combination of GWB delirium. But this time around I'm hoping I can open at least a decent version of UW skies.
MrStrangechange Yh i'm really likeing U/W Flyers, Evasion for days!
GW Humans was the peanut butter and jelly on SOI, very consistent; but I hope I get a good RW pool.
I also enjoyed drafting UR tempo with lots of pieces at common level like the tappy zombie mangler, niblis of dusk, voldaren duelist, just the wind etc
Running a Boros deck, ride down is fucking god! It's just a reprint in EM tho. Mostly useless in standard.

6 Rares because you get your promo as well
7
Possibly even more with foils and double faced cards.
+MrStrangechange yeah, max of 19, assuming packs are normal. Of course, there is hardly any chance of this, maybe one person in the whole world who goes to a prerelease will get this many.
Frederick Noe *fingers crossed*
Lol same
7 you will have 7 rares but still right about the rare thing
could have a foil rare in each pack.
"PLAY TWO COLORS THIS TIME" He says, while two of the top 4 LRR pre-prerelease decks were Bant. Full on.
The fact that you make this argument without mentioning that both decks had Tamiyo in them is a little shifty. Plus, I'm not in the habit of making decisions based on small sample sizes with large outliers :p

How is "Contigency Plan" bad ? Even when you dont play deli you can still fix your draw for 5 turns for only 2 mana, instant pick in blue limited ;d
There should be a "basically" count on his videos...
I rather like ride down. Not only am i destroying your blocker but im blowing through you too.
The card is great and just provides a clock for your opponent.
contingency plan - 2 mana scry 5. + extra delirium or zombie shenanigans.... and you say don't play this...
There is actually 7 rares
couldn't terraion be classified as janky color fixing?
