  • Gene Autry is an American icon whose career influenced entertainment in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. He became a successful businessman in broadcasting and baseball later in life. In the late 1980s, Gene Autry and his sidekick pal Pat Buttram hosted The Nashville Network (TNN) television series "Melody Ranch Theater" where they introduced their movies and offered anecdotes about the Westerns and the people in them. With a total of 91 episodes that included several guests from Western films and music, Gene and Pat's conversations covered a variety of topics. Gene Autry Entertainment has reviewed this treasure trove of firsthand, personal accounts on film making, music, horses, baseball, rodeos, and more and created the "Presenting..... Gene Autry" series with episodes on specific subjects from Gene Autry's life and career.

ABOUT THE NASHVILLE NETWORK (TNN) SERIES "MELODY RANCH THEATER"
The program featured Gene Autry's classic B Western movies, cut down for television, with original opening and closing segments with America's favorite singing cowboy and his comedic sidekick Pat Buttram reminiscing about the making of the movies and events in the industry at the time. Guests also visited with Gene and Pat, including Pee Wee King, George Sherman, Ann Rutherford, and Roy Rogers. A total of 91 episodes were made and The Nashville Network received some of its highest ratings with "Melody Ranch Theater." In 2001, after a yearlong search, these conversations, known as wraparounds, were found and restored by Gene Autry Entertainment. Each film's wraparounds can be seen on the DVD releases as bonus material. Read more:

I remember this. This was back in the days of TNN. Gone forever now. Gene was my childhood hero. I had a hat, cap pistol, spurs and I even chewed Double Mint gum. That was when the gum was the real stuff.

Had not seen this video until now. Gene was my childhood cowboy hero. I visited the museum again this past July when in L.A. Hope to see his other museum in Oklahoma next year. Great memories!

I watched the TV program - Gene Autry, oy Rogers, and Hopalong Cassidy were my 3 favorite shows. I still enjoy Gene's Christmas songs, especially Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer - Great Memories.

"Barbed Wire" was, in fact, one of Gene's best films. I'm also a fan of his usual sidekick, Smiley Burnette, something of a professional "sidekicker", appearing over 20 years with not only Autry, but at other times with Roy Rogers, Charlie Starrett and who knows how many others. 😉

I have loved the Autry Museum since just about day one and have visited MANY times. One of my favorite places on earth. I wonder what Gene would think of the museum today.

Poor Pat does not look well here. I think he died from cancer, so admire for not letting it interrupt his career. It's also a shame that Gene's longtime side kick, the talented Smiley Burnette, died at such a relatively young age. It have been marvelous seeing all three here. 👏👏👏👏😉
