- I walk around a local Chinese community in Nanjing China, a big Chinese city. I eat some Chinese street food, a local bread, look at a number of different stalls, watch old people playing Mahjong, poker and exercising in a big and lively community square in the centre of lots of Chinese alleys.
I see lots of interesting Chinese buildings and small residential apartments of working class people in an old district of Nanjing. I come across a man selling live pigeons and another selling live chickens as food. I also talk to a local electronics repair man and a shoe repair man as well as interacting with a few other locals.

Ordinary Chinese people are so kind and nice!
Thanks for your comment Scott. Yeah, Like most places, the majority of people are nice 😀
Thank you for filming these videos for us even if it can be a little awkward. It is thanks to people like you that we can experience daily life in other parts of the world.
Thank you very much, it’s my pleasure 🙂👍 I come across a lot of unique places living in China and hope through my videos I can begin to share a sense of being in these places with others too.
I totally agree 👍
i live in Nanjing, but this is the first time to see elders gathering together to play Majiang and pokers. good viedo and thanks for sharinv.
你的中國語 說的很好,中國 歡迎你
非常感谢!我的普通话还不是很好,但我希望今年能改进它。祝你今天过得愉快
My best friend, Great video. Love your channel. Keep up the excellent work!!! Wonderful upload! Keep it up! +thumb up3!
Thank you very much 🙂👍
Thanks. This is very familiar to me after many years in China. The number of small businesses is really impressive compared to a North American city.
Thanks Myles. I agree, it's amazing to see so many small businesses thriving and not only supermarkets everywhere. Almost all of my local shops back home in England disappeared many years ago. Supermarkets will never offer the same connection people have with a local shopkeeper / business.
cool video. Would love to learn about the history and the people more maybe through your narration as you walk through the streets
Thank you very much 🙂👍 I really appreciate your feedback, that’s a great idea. I will try to make some future videos where I learn more about some of these communities and the people living there and share it as I walk around.
Thank you for sharing scenes of ordinary daily life in Nanjing. It is a very interesting video
Thank you. I enjoy sharing everyday life here. I will be exploring more communities over the next few weeks 😁
Really interesting video of the daily lives of this local Chinese community. Everyone seems really friendly and happy to talk to you. Fascinating ! Thanks for posting. ☺

Another great video Adam! Getting some good views on this one! Keep them coming!
Thanks a lot! Yeah, the views on this one took off surprisingly quickly. Got a few more like this coming in the next week or so, it's fun exploring these areas.
Hello, fabulous video, I would love to try the food, beautiful daily life of Chinese citizens.
Thank you very much Victor 👍 There are so many different types of foods to choose from in China. Dishes from all different regions of the country.
Nice place love the wall art, we get lots of that in certain places here too
The wall art is cool, it seems to just be in certain areas where they have a lot of it, usually older neighborhoods, maybe to give them a bit of a face lift or to attract visitors to the area.
Thank you for presenting the real situation of the street scenes: be it good. Bad or ugly just the way it is.
Good job.
You’re welcome. That’s what I hope to achieve, to allow people to experience places the way they are and hopefully to allow people to connect with the place and experience / feel what it’s like there a little bit. thanks Michael 👍🙂
Looks just like Chinatown in NY.
5:44 Chinese usually have 烧饼 (Shāobǐng) for breakfast. If the vendor sells freshly prepared 油条 Yóutiáo, you should try the savory ones with 油条 Yóutiáo (sandwiched in between a cut opened 烧饼).
Thanks for the recommendation. I do like 烧饼 I’ll have a look out for your other recommendations. There are so many different breakfast foods to choose from here.
10:20 Vendors had no refrigerators in those earlier days, and hence, livestock were prepared when they were sold. Nowadays, people are still doing that for fresher meats, very much like how lobsters and crabs are prepared to serve in other countries.
That makes sense. I still see vendors walking down the street with live chickens in a basket now and then. I’m not used to seeing food directly prepared, I guess in the west we distance ourselves from the act of slaughtering an animal / the source of our food whereas here it’s a little more in your face.
It's for the departed to spend in the afterlife
I thought people believe in reincarnation. it will be a waste of paper money.
Oh, another one of these videos.
What do you mean? 🙂
Great, thanks for sharing. Let's hope that to show a true image of China, that one day you have the courage to talk a little about politics. (Personally I do not believe it for a second) The Chinese people are great but not the dictatorship.
Thank you very much 👍 I don’t plan to discuss politics in my videos. I do what I can to bring about a more peaceful world in my own small way. The world is a difficult place with lots of chaos but underlying all the madness and incredible suffering of many people and animals around the world, there is a sense of peace and connection that we can all experience. I hope to share a little of that experience and connection in my videos and in my own daily experience as often as possible.
