    why fade to black after boss battles?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  10 месяцев назад +60

      It's a frame perfect trick called a fadeout. Pressing the start button on the correct frame after a boss explosion will cause the game to attempt to open the menu, but the process is interrupted and the screen fades to black early instead. It saves approximately 20 frames, or 1/3rd of a second, each time it's used.

    Is this using the JPN release (Rockman X) because the text boxes are slightly faster or something? Are there other glitches unique to this version that help speedrunning?
    Edit: Also, does Sting Chameleon's cloaking sound effect sound weird because of the fade out glitch?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  9 месяцев назад +4

      This run is done specifically on the JP release for faster text boxes, yes. The JP version saves 11.6 seconds over the ENG version due the differences in text boxes. This is also the v1.0 ROM, which was chosen specifically because of the allowance of 'item juggling', where we use additional boomerangs to delay how long it takes for an item to return to X, and is used only once during the run at 8:17. The v1.1 ROM in both ENG and JP does not allow item juggling.
      Great ear on the Sting Chameleon sound effect by the way. It's not due to the fadeout, but rather just another difference between v1.0 and v1.1 of the ROM. As far as I know, it's the only audio-related change between the two versions.

    First time I see that phantom grab of the heart in the mammoth stage!!

  • @YoghurtKiss
    @YoghurtKiss 7 месяцев назад

    15:47 the TAS is done with the one part in every speedrun that I do not understand. The return to Penguin doesn't make sense to me. It takes the TAS 57 seconds to do it from Boss, to entering Penguin stage to getting heart and exiting stage.
    Surely it must be a larger timesave to just get the heart the first time, by using the Mechsuit, going the path under, then circling back to the area where the heart is and destroying the dome with the Mech suit?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  7 месяцев назад

      There is currently no known way to get the mech up to where the heart is. Going underneath only leads to another large blue pole that the mech cannot jump over, and even if you made it past that somehow, the jump afterwards to make it to the upper path is still not possible, the mech won't reach even halfway up the wall.

      @@OhTrials Oh, you mean that a TAS/RTA of MMX (for example) ends before the credits start? (when the player no longer controls anything maybe except skipping credits)?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  10 месяцев назад +7

      @@kirbaran2039 By RTA timing, the run starts when the player presses start on the main menu and it ends on the final hit of Big Sig. By TAS timing, the run starts when the console powers on and ends when the last input is given, in this case, the final text box closes. That said, TAS videos still let the remainder of the game play out even if there are no inputs required, so that the game is displayed completely from absolute start to absolute end.
      The timer I added was to help MMX speedrunners reference parts of the run, so it follows standard RTA timing procedures, but I also allowed the game to play out in full to adhere to standard TAS practices.

    For Sigma 2 boss, is it not feasible to charge ice shot to give you a platform to haduken the final phase? Or would it be slower?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  2 месяца назад

      @@ARSVids You can absolutely do that, but unfortunately hadoukening the nose is slightly slower than just using chameleon sting. There are ways to use the hadouken more effectively, but they're not viable in RTA runs because it's dependent on the RNG from the eyes, and a human player has no way to predict that their setup would work for a given eye pattern.

    • @OhTrials

      Mostly from strategies that require inputs humans cannot perform. Examples would be a wall clip in Spark Mandrill stage that requires around a dozen frame perfect sequential inputs to save ~3 seconds, turnaround wallkicks that require both left and right to be pressed on the d-pad simultaneously that physical controllers cannot do, and a total of 11 phantom grabs through the run whereas this Human Theory TAS and actual speedrunners will only ever perform 5 of them.

    Is the pillar hurdle at 4:34 truly optimized? Looks like you slide right into it and then jump over it, as opposed to jumping earlier

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  10 месяцев назад +8

      Yes, it is optimal to do it the way that is shown. If you jump from further back and with dash-speed, you have to do an extra wall kick to make it over the pillar. Instead, like shown here, you can dash up to it and turn back to the left for just a few frames to gain what's called 'slope speed' from the angled ground. You must be at walking speed to attain slope speed, but the main purpose is to gain the extra jump height that slope speed affords, allowing us to reach the top of the pillar in a single jump instead of two. Doing it as shown in this video saves between 5 and 10 frames, depending on how well you execute it.

      I forget the technical details of it, but the short version is that specific situations can corrupt the data that tells the game what object the Boomerang has grabbed, letting it transform into other often illegal objects, such as that platform, at which point you ride the platform as it gets pulled to you
      To quote the uploader from another comment about the same moment at 11 mins
      > Both that and the moment in Sigma 1 with the platform are called phantom grabs. It's a semi-complex trick that requires the runner to load specific items into the game's memory the frame after collecting an item from a boomerang. Phantom grabs have been a staple in high level Mega Man X speedruns for over a decade now, definitely one of the flashier tricks we use!

    Is there a way to manipulate the RNG and make the Hadouken capsule appear every time?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  9 месяцев назад +2

      There is no RNG associated with the hadouken capsule, only a set of conditions that must be met. The ledge where the capsule spawns has to be 'seen' a total of 5 times. On the fifth and final time, the player must have collected all hearts, all subtanks, all armour upgrades, all boss weapons, and must be at full health (the contents of your subtanks does not matter). If all of these conditions are met, the capsule spawns.

    Why do you kill yourself three times at the armadillo stage?

    • @OhTrials
      @OhTrials  9 месяцев назад +1

      It is to facilitate one of the requirements for the hadouken capsule to spawn. The ledge where the capsule spawns must be 'seen' a total of five times. The first time is during the normal playthrough of Armadillo's stage. After all of the bosses are defeated and items collected, you re-enter Armadillo's stage to view the ledge three more times, falling in the pit each time to reset the stage, which is faster than exiting the stage and traversing all the way back there.
      The fifth time the ledge has been seen, and you have met all of the other conditions, the hadouken capsule will spawn, which is necessary for 100% completion of the game.

It's used in the RTA any% category as it's much faster than the homing torpedo Kuwanger refight. Since this Human Theory TAS is a showcase of current optimal strats for the RTA speedrun, Kuwanger skip doesn't belong here.

      @@OhTrialsI doubt a human can press a button 4~5 times in 0,1 second, but if you say so...

      @@rafaelogenio819 You're clearly mistaken if you think that the shooting in this video was "4 to 5 times in 0.1 seconds". That is not even possible at any level, as the game runs at 60 FPS. The MAXIMUM speed that a TAS could ever shoot at is 30 times per second (3 times in 0.1 seconds). That is the absolute limit of the hardware involved. The shooting speed in this video never exceeded 20 times per second (2 times in 0.1 seconds). That is a rate that has been done by many people, including myself. I have videos on this very channel displaying my shooting speed.
      It would be wrong of me and downright strange to make a 'Human Theory' TAS that shoots slower than actual human speedrunners.

      Dude, I could mash faster than this while blindfolded. It’s super doable for a human

      @@rafaelogenio819 This mashing isn't THAT absurd, I can manage that with decent consistency even and I don't even speedrun, not for the full length of the run I'm sure, thats a feat of stamina rather than physical execution limit though, as for the menuing, super reasonable, the stage select is stupid fast responsive and if you know what you plan to do you don't need to think just slam buttons
