The importance of the early rounds varies a lot with compositions and starting packs. If one player starts with very low health, they're in danger of getting tempoed if they lose early rounds hard. Also, some units like mustangs scale extremely well with levels, so getting them snowballing early can be a huge huge deal. But in some games both players are playing compositions where they don't particularly care if they lose some early rounds, especially if it's not by a lot. Rule of thumb, if you've got something that's annoying for your opponent to deal with, you value early victories more so you can level them. This forces them to do something new to deal with them, which makes them predictable, and restricts their ability to deal with anything else you do at the same time. The third game with the steel balls is actually a pretty good illustration of that. They leveled those early, and they were quite scary. I think they misplayed their position some after that, but it was still a very good position for them at that point.
Crawler spam was absolutely the right decision the first couple games. Any time an opponent refuses to deal with something, especially something cheap, spamming more of that thing until you see their counter and then countering that is a very valid choice. Or if it's a carry they're not dealing with, just doing neutral moves to improve your board in general like getting more chaff or flanks. Often if they wait too long, it's insurmountable anyway.

When you click on one of your units, you can see how much damage it did last round and in the match so far in the bottom left. That can help you decide which units to promote, and which to give tech to. Promoting units that are just dying quickly every round without doing any damage often just feeds your enemy more xp without benefit.

Snipers are the best counter for respawning phoenix. Use the electromagnetic shots!!!!

Yes, they stop the respawn. But they don't kill them fast if phoenixes have shields.

More Mechabellum innit! I'm so hooked on this game, it's frankly riddiculous, both playing it and watching your vids. Still have a lot of learning to do obviously, but I'm starting to hold my own pretty consistently against players at or near my MMR. I feel my biggest weakness still is dealing with asymmetric plays by my opponent. Keep 'em coming, good stuff!

You can use the promote even if you can't afford it right away to keep the cooldown ticking and guarantee something that might not be likely to get the kills a level.

if he had gotten armour for his wraiths they would have dealt with your mustangs easily.

How is the new player population? Some of the Steam reviews say it’s pretty sweaty even for new players

Eh. Low elo is just kind of do what you want land. It's really not that tryhard lol. Like people will try to make what they're doing work, but they're not religiously following guides or anything like that. You see some *strange* things down there. I think the new player experience is basically fine. Game's got a large enough playerbase with enough churn that you'll exclusively play against other new players, or people who play about as well as them.
