Like you mate, I was blown away by the attention to detail and lifelike representation of everyone's favorite Wookiee when I first got him. He was one of my earliest as well. Besides the sculpt that could be better, every strand of fur, each scar, and the weathered appearance of his bandolier are awesome, staying true to his on-screen depiction. Despite Chewbacca's hulking size, the figure has an impressive range of articulation. No Star Wars is complete without Chewie, especially with Han. Awesome video mate.

Good point about the articulation, not something I went into all that much but yeah you can definitely get him in some fairly dynamic poses, although I like the more subtler poses, bit like you had him displayed in one of your recent shots on instagram. With the 50th anniversary coming up and improvements in our hobby, I’ve had a ton of ambivalence. After your video, I’ve thought I’d hang on to all of my Episode IV figures. I dunno, man. Hey John! It's a tricky one because you could sell and make a load of money at current prices but then we may not get newer versions for the 50th Anniversary! Apart from the face, which although is good, its just lacking something... Nice touch with the comb, but totally understand you not using it, as you could end up with a Kojak lookalike!

I really do think this is a more than decent representation of chewie, like you say with the passage of time and improvements now available a 2.0 would be possible but I wonder how much better could It really be? I think this guy is ace and a must for all trilogy fans. I think set him and leave him alone, you could get demented preening him with that little comb😂. Really enjoying your look back at trilogy figures, would love to have more of them in my collection but there is just so many figures competing for your money now isn’t there.? Haha yes when I first got him I did spend a good while combing him, but as soon as I started to see (admittedly small) tufts of hair coming out I've just left him as-is. Still pleased with it though, amazing figure! Yes when I started collecting there was no Mando line or Clone Wars or any of the TV series's really, but now there's so many demands on your cash its difficult to by backwards! SOO many figures! I don't think HT got it quite right with either of their attempts at Chewie but in my opinion this is the best Chewie. I'd love them to take another crack Chewie. A TESB version with 3P0 on his back would be amazing (and probably frighteningly expensive). When I was a kid my favourite Kenner toy was the biker scout and his speeder but Chewie was the first Star Wars figure my parents bought me and I loved him. I'd love this HT Chewie in my collection but I'd need to have him with Han and that's some big money to get them both. Cheers mate, thanks for the vid.
Yes I agree neither are quite right but their first attempt definitely turned out to be the best. Would really love then to do a TESB versions with 3PO for sure!! I just hope HT revisit the OT more, the Dewback is really good sign! Dude yeah I also had the Kenner Chewie, loved it!! Prices are pretty scary for Chewie and Han. Definitely a few hundred more now than when I got them. They were some of the earliest figures I got and I got them for a bargain (although didn't realise it at the time!!) Honestly gutted we didn't get more figures from Solo!! Mimban trooper and Range trooper (one of my fave designs!) and yeah Chewie! They made two Han's and no Chewie 🤷🏻♂️ Cheers for watching mate 👍🏻😀🍻
I did a lot of futzing, combing, and using some hair gel I was able to make him look more empire/Jedi chewie. Right out of the box, it’s not great but with some work you can make him look decent. Still MUCH better than the force awakens version.
I have the Force Awakens version that I ended up getting for free through a PayPal dispute, but it came with no accessories, no box or extra hands . I love him , but I hope they come out with an updated one .

I managed to get Chewie in a clearance sale from a local comic store, think I paid £150 ish (can't remember) He's an OK figure if hes with the newer characters hidden in the back. I tried to shape his hair to make him look better but couldn't. Think its about time for a V2.0 one ;) Great vid as usual

If you can believe it, I've had this figure and have never opened it yet. It's rough when you're working away from home a lot. That being said, I would love an updated 2.0 of him, despite already technically having him. I recently saw a custom that came very close to his on screen look.

Hmm.... I cannot tell a lie, so pardon my honesty, Chris. I would not want to own this figure because of that face. It's a shame that Hot Toys can produce something truly great like the Old Ben Kenobi figure, and then their other ANH figures are mostly meh. The ANH Luke does not look like Mark Hamill. The ANH Han Solo does not look like Harrison Ford. Still, you do a great service for the Hot Toys curious by giving us a good look at these figures. At one point I planned to collect all the ANH figures, but I now think less is more, and a person should just get the figures that really speak to them.
The Chewie head sculpt is a bit ropey to be honest, but I like the figure as a whole. I love the Han and Luke figures tho!! I mean they're not 'perfect' by any means but I don't think any other company has done better sixth scale representations of these characters (yet!). But I think a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder so to speak, so appreciate they may not be must-haves in *everyone's* collection. Cheers for watching and commenting mate 😀👍🏻
Mine is much, much darker than yours. 😞 Of the two, I prefer the "Force Awakens" version better, for that reason. It would be nice if they did a Bespin version, with C3PO on his back.
Ah ok didn't realise there were even darker versions! My TFA version looks orange tbh so I much prefer this one. But yes totally agree would love a Bespin version with C-3PO, or a RotJ version! 😀

Worth buying for the branded comb alone lol! It’s a must have figure for any Star Wars collection. Think Hot Toys did a pretty decent job with this one, and it still holds up today, after 8 years! This is definitely the version to have. As for the ‘Force Awakens’ Chewie - OMG - it’s simply awful and one of Hot Toys worst!! Love seeing these retro reviews Chris, and looking forward to seeing more. Now you’ve shown that comb, I’m tempted to use it on my new W100 Wonder Woman lol….

I'm always puzzled when people mention the Han and Chewbacca 2-pack 🤔 Didn't Hot Toys release an updated Han Solo and Chewbacca for the sequel trilogy? 💁♂️ 😂 One of my favorite aspects of your reviews is that you show these legacy figures the care and attention they deserve. I think that there's something to be said for the effort that Hot Toys put into creating some of their earlier offerings, when the headsculpt prototypes were done by hand and each figure was assembled and finished by hand ✋️ I recently secured one of my personal grails, the DX07 Two-Pack and I couldn't be more pleased. The fact that it doesn't look like the new Bespin Luke is the icing on the cake for me 👍 great review mate cheers 🍻
Yes Hot Toys released both the ANH Han and Chewie as a 2-pack and TFA Han and Chewie as a 2-pack as well. And all of them could be bought separately. So I have the ANH versions as separates but TFA versions as a 2-pack. Yeah definitely like to take good care of these tbh. Particularly the older figures. And congrats on the DX07! I love that set. Not long after I bought that they announced the reissue Bespin Luke, but I was still so glad to have the DX07 in the collection. I recently got this one with Han in the 2 pack. In my case the 2 pack was my only option because we had built up credit at a store over time trading things in and it was on 20% off day. Something you said got me thinking, you mentioned that it will do for now until they bring another out. I personally absolutely love this figure and Han, I actually think the likeness is spot on. However what if a new one comes out from ANH then people with the 2 pack have got one of the expensive grails but one figure will be replaced with a new version. You keep them both but want to display new chewie, what a shame it would be to store an expensive rare chewie figure. Oh, remember I was asking you about weather I should get Tarkin because it's so expensive? Well we gathered up our credit from that store and went there last night. We picked up the AT-AT Driver new but displayed in store for $499 CAD and Tarkin $899 CAD. Same situation, only displayed once in store glass case. I admit Tarkin looks great, can't fault it but I was surprised because it really doesn't have the shelf presence I expected, I put him with vader and he just fades away. AT-AT Driver on the other hand was better than I could have expected. Really happy with both but wow AT-AT Driver really impressed me. Interestingly it came out the sane year as this chewie.
Don't get me wrong I think it looks amazing on the shelf, but really close up the headsculpt/face is just not quite there for me, but I still love it, it's still amazing and there's zero chance it would ever leave the collection. Interesting point you make though about potentially boxing this one up if a 2.0 was released, but I think you could legitimately have 2 Chewies on display. You could get 2.0 and move old Chewie to another shelf, like ESB or even RotJ shelf (if you could make the hair have a centre parting 😅). CONGRATS on the Tarkin / AT-AT Driver haul!! Honestly made up for you mate!! I'm still amazed by the AT-AT driver every time I look at it! And Tarkin... WOW. I understand what you mean about shelf presence, this is why I have him front and centre on the top shelf in my display, gives him a bit more gravitas. Did you get the chair? Might be an option to have him seated with Vader stood slightly behind and see if that looks better?
Yeah we got the chair and I was thinking the sane thing. It's a shame because in hand it's a great figure but in a detolf he's like a lamp post in the background 😂 You brought up something there I was thinking of. The parting on chewie, have you tried doing the ROTJ parting? I think I'm too scared I will mess it up and not be able to get it back. If you do try it, it would make a great video! I'm closely watching these new releases because I want them to make that really cool trooper from Mando season 3 and Greeve's gold droid with the green eyes. Tell you what though, I'm having to be seriously picky now, we just ran out of room, like completely out of room and no idea what to do because we have stupidly big stuff coming like Blurg and AT-RT we had to get rid of the jaba and throne for some breathing room.

@@TK421Collectibles Haha! yeah just about! I'm never spending that much on 1 figure again, that's for sure, at least it was just credit we accumulated from various things we didn't want anymore. Yeah, I can see your point, I feel like it will be ok if you're gentle, I guess the way to do it would be to gently do it bit by bit, one side at a time and if any comes out just gently comb it back to how it was and call it a day. Yeah, to be honest, I think collecting 1/6 scale, hot toys especially will come to a head this year for many people, I think you will see a lot of youtubers selling off their collections, Jeda Patrol did it the other day, he live auctioned them on youtube. We only have so much space and with the rate stuff is coming out, it has to hit a wall sooner rather than later. I think we have 9 left on pre-order coming in the next 12 months and no room for them and I bet most people are in the same boat, it's not sustainable as a hobby. Don't get me wrong, I love it but what can you do? For some reason my notifications stopped working properly, I never know if you replied anymore when we chat in comments, I have to go searching for them so if I don't reply at some point, I'm not being rude or anything.

I know he used to sell loads of stuff but seemed to be things I would *never* sell like Hoth Leia etc. But that was years ago tbh not watched the channel for a good while. But yeah you're right everyone (well most of us) definitely have limits to what we can collect and I'm starting to question its sustainability too! Dude I'm the same, RUclips does not notify me hardly at all regarding replies. I can filter by new unread comments, but the "comments with new replies" filter seems really flakey. So yeah I get it if you don't reply you're not being rude 😀 and likewise if I go silent its because I don't know there's a reply, and when there's loads of comments its difficult to spot new replies! While not perfect i think this is so much better than TFA version. I have no idea whats going on with the headsculpt on that one

Never been much of a Han & Chewie fan. Always been more interested in Luke & Leia. Plus, there are enough cat hairs in this house as it is.
Haha yeah I noticed after having him stood next to Han, Han was covered in Chewie hairs! 😅
Hmm.... I cannot tell a lie, so pardon my honesty, Chris. I would not want to own this figure because of that face. It's a shame that Hot Toys can produce something truly great like the Old Ben Kenobi figure, and then their other ANH figures are mostly meh. The ANH Luke does not look like Mark Hamill. The ANH Han Solo does not look like Harrison Ford. Still, you do a great service for the Hot Toys curious by giving us a good look at these figures. At one point I planned to collect all the ANH figures, but I now think less is more, and a person should just get the figures that really speak to them.
The Chewie head sculpt is a bit ropey to be honest, but I like the figure as a whole. I love the Han and Luke figures tho!! I mean they're not 'perfect' by any means but I don't think any other company has done better sixth scale representations of these characters (yet!). But I think a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder so to speak, so appreciate they may not be must-haves in *everyone's* collection. Cheers for watching and commenting mate 😀👍🏻

Mine is much, much darker than yours. 😞 Of the two, I prefer the "Force Awakens" version better, for that reason. It would be nice if they did a Bespin version, with C3PO on his back.
Ah ok didn't realise there were even darker versions! My TFA version looks orange tbh so I much prefer this one. But yes totally agree would love a Bespin version with C-3PO, or a RotJ version! 😀
@@TK421Collectibles I recall running across another RUclipsr years ago who likewise had a very dark version, like mine. It seems there were two separate production runs of the figure. RoTJ version - like R2D2, wouldn't he be the same as the others?

Worth buying for the branded comb alone lol! It’s a must have figure for any Star Wars collection. Think Hot Toys did a pretty decent job with this one, and it still holds up today, after 8 years! This is definitely the version to have. As for the ‘Force Awakens’ Chewie - OMG - it’s simply awful and one of Hot Toys worst!! Love seeing these retro reviews Chris, and looking forward to seeing more. Now you’ve shown that comb, I’m tempted to use it on my new W100 Wonder Woman lol….

The hair looks great on that tbh 👍🏻 But yeah this Chewie is definitely the better of the two. Not quite sure what went wrong with TFA Chewie tbh. One of my favorite aspects of your reviews is that you show these legacy figures the care and attention they deserve. I think that there's something to be said for the effort that Hot Toys put into creating some of their earlier offerings, when the headsculpt prototypes were done by hand and each figure was assembled and finished by hand ✋️
I recently secured one of my personal grails, the DX07 Two-Pack and I couldn't be more pleased. The fact that it doesn't look like the new Bespin Luke is the icing on the cake for me 👍 great review mate cheers 🍻
Yes Hot Toys released both the ANH Han and Chewie as a 2-pack and TFA Han and Chewie as a 2-pack as well. And all of them could be bought separately. So I have the ANH versions as separates but TFA versions as a 2-pack.
Yeah definitely like to take good care of these tbh. Particularly the older figures. And congrats on the DX07! I love that set. Not long after I bought that they announced the reissue Bespin Luke, but I was still so glad to have the DX07 in the collection. Fantastic set and bit of history there with it being the first Star Wars Hot Toy!

I recently got this one with Han in the 2 pack. In my case the 2 pack was my only option because we had built up credit at a store over time trading things in and it was on 20% off day. Something you said got me thinking, you mentioned that it will do for now until they bring another out. I personally absolutely love this figure and Han, I actually think the likeness is spot on. However what if a new one comes out from ANH then people with the 2 pack have got one of the expensive grails but one figure will be replaced with a new version. You keep them both but want to display new chewie, what a shame it would be to store an expensive rare chewie figure.
Oh, remember I was asking you about weather I should get Tarkin because it's so expensive? Well we gathered up our credit from that store and went there last night. We picked up the AT-AT Driver new but displayed in store for $499 CAD and Tarkin $899 CAD. Same situation, only displayed once in store glass case. I admit Tarkin looks great, can't fault it but I was surprised because it really doesn't have the shelf presence I expected, I put him with vader and he just fades away. AT-AT Driver on the other hand was better than I could have expected. Really happy with both but wow AT-AT Driver really impressed me. Interestingly it came out the sane year as this chewie.
Don't get me wrong I think it looks amazing on the shelf, but really close up the headsculpt/face is just not quite there for me, but I still love it, it's still amazing and there's zero chance it would ever leave the collection. Interesting point you make though about potentially boxing this one up if a 2.0 was released, but I think you could legitimately have 2 Chewies on display. You could get 2.0 and move old Chewie to another shelf, like ESB or even RotJ shelf (if you could make the hair have a centre parting 😅).
CONGRATS on the Tarkin / AT-AT Driver haul!! Honestly made up for you mate!! I'm still amazed by the AT-AT driver every time I look at it! And Tarkin... WOW. I understand what you mean about shelf presence, this is why I have him front and centre on the top shelf in my display, gives him a bit more gravitas. Did you get the chair? Might be an option to have him seated with Vader stood slightly behind and see if that looks better?
Yeah we got the chair and I was thinking the sane thing. It's a shame because in hand it's a great figure but in a detolf he's like a lamp post in the background 😂
You brought up something there I was thinking of. The parting on chewie, have you tried doing the ROTJ parting? I think I'm too scared I will mess it up and not be able to get it back. If you do try it, it would make a great video!
I'm closely watching these new releases because I want them to make that really cool trooper from Mando season 3 and Greeve's gold droid with the green eyes. Tell you what though, I'm having to be seriously picky now, we just ran out of room, like completely out of room and no idea what to do because we have stupidly big stuff coming like Blurg and AT-RT we had to get rid of the jaba and throne for some breathing room.

@@TK421Collectibles Haha! yeah just about! I'm never spending that much on 1 figure again, that's for sure, at least it was just credit we accumulated from various things we didn't want anymore. Yeah, I can see your point, I feel like it will be ok if you're gentle, I guess the way to do it would be to gently do it bit by bit, one side at a time and if any comes out just gently comb it back to how it was and call it a day. Yeah, to be honest, I think collecting 1/6 scale, hot toys especially will come to a head this year for many people, I think you will see a lot of youtubers selling off their collections, Jeda Patrol did it the other day, he live auctioned them on youtube. We only have so much space and with the rate stuff is coming out, it has to hit a wall sooner rather than later. I think we have 9 left on pre-order coming in the next 12 months and no room for them and I bet most people are in the same boat, it's not sustainable as a hobby. Don't get me wrong, I love it but what can you do? For some reason my notifications stopped working properly, I never know if you replied anymore when we chat in comments, I have to go searching for them so if I don't reply at some point, I'm not being rude or anything.
@@OdinAnon yeah collecting is definitely going to get interesting space-wise this year and next... What did Jedha Patrol auction off? I know he used to sell loads of stuff but seemed to be things I would *never* sell like Hoth Leia etc. But that was years ago tbh not watched the channel for a good while. But yeah you're right everyone (well most of us) definitely have limits to what we can collect and I'm starting to question its sustainability too!

@@TK421Collectibles The bodies of the Chewies are fine, but the heads are like the masks of mediocre Chewie cosplay costumes. All I really wanted from HT’s ROTJ 40th anniversary announcements was a Chewie who actually looked like Chewie!
40th anniversary would have been ideal. Perhaps they’re worried the demand may not be there, particularly after how TFA version turned out
@@TK421Collectibles Not exactly a standard figure, no! With the new finer hair they’re using for Wonder Woman, Joker and Anakin, they could do a much better job with Chewie’s face fur and face shape. Figure would cost well over £400 but would be worth it!
