  • Seventeen seriously has a great team and how each of them sort of fill in the gaps that cover their weaknesses. I almost feel that Clap is a bit of an ode to their previous releases by going back to the "rowdyness" that they have shown before.
    Let me know what you want me to watch! Or better yet, suggest another type of content I should make that could help you learn more about dance! Whether you're an aspiring dancer, training to be a K-Pop idol, or just want to appreciate the art of dance-
    I want to share my knowledge with YOU.
    Hope ya'll enjoy this video!
    Quick about me:
    My real name is Tad, but DonKawaii/Don was simply an IGN name I created playing FF14 online, so I kinda just rolled with it. Lol. I am also a teacher, and I teach people dance. And normally, I teach my students dance through sharing my own choreography, giving people drills or exercises to build foundation and technique. and I've been dancing for 15 years mainly growing up through Hip Hop dance culture, but my foundation also includes minor areas in ballet, jazz, and tap. And how I got into K-Pop was because the main three groups, Wonder Girls, Big Bang, and SNSD. That followed with korean dramas, variety shows, and the rest is history.

    Here is a small fun fact about the Clap Choreography: The part at the end of the choreography where Vernon (Brown Hair) does a move solo and everyone follows right behind him, he actually is allowed to totally freestyle there and the rest of Seventeen has to follow him. There is a pretty large compilation of the different moves Vernon does that Seventeen has to follow!

      adding a similar fact to this one: the part where wonwoo pulls up another member (10:00) is also often improvised, and he varies who he picks to jump up or sometimes doesn't pick anyone!

    Fun facts about clap:
    -Clap choreo was somehow catered to fans to be “easy” (clapping) so we carats can dance along.
    -Vernon and Wonwoo’s part are mostly freestyled/impromtu actions on stages/concerts and it’s something we look forward to everytime.
    -Specialized Videotape Technology. Basically svt were playing with the fact that they self-produce and the video concept that is “how to make a music video” lol
    💖💙
    Can’t wait to see your reaction to the next one’s 🤩💖💙

    What you said about mirror images reminds of Hoshi saying Woozi is his mirror (because their styles are similar and complement each other) and so he often puts him on the opposite side of him (sandwiching center members) to make the formation look more balanced.
    Edit : forgot to add, when they rotate/shake their hands before clapping in the chorus, that's adapted from the sign language for clapping :)

    I think putting Woozi in the front just because he's the shortest and Mingyu at the end or the back coz he's the tallest is not part of SEVENTEEN's "image construction"? I dunno how to explain it. But what ur saying makes sense because that's what our eyes are used to see-- to see things chronologically. If maybe the person will move easier from center to left back or left to right, I think that's what they're doing.

    SEVENTEEN VIDS TWO DAYS IN A ROW !!
    seventeen actually got two candidates for their title track: clap and without you. without you is the "continuation" of dont wanna cry. it has the same solemn kinda vibes and the choreography really did well on conveying the song's emotion. the last formation of without you is the first formation in clap, with scoups in the center. so the whole trilogy (?) goes dont wanna cry - without you - clap. they need to pick one for the title track and decided to make clap the title track and without you for the bside track. without you is the title track we didn't have

    I don't remember if you've been told this or talked about it already, but one day you should watch Don't Wanna Cry, Without You, and Clap in that order! they connect to each other! you can tell by the starting and ending poses :) and if you looked at the lyrics - the story of Don't Wanna Cry is basically right after a breakup, Without You is the sort of trying to move on while you're still sad part, and then Clap is about like getting up and trying to make the best of every situation to help move on, like clapping and having fun to cheer yourself up! it's just fun to me that they connected them like that, and was kind of a magical part of the whole Teen,age album comeback! plus, just fun to know about the mv - the concept of it is that they're filming the mvs for the unit songs from Teen,age. if you look close you'll see references to Trauma, Change Up, Lilili Yabbay, and Pinwheel.

    The height difference in SEVENTEEN is really big. Mingyu (tallest) is a dancing skyscraper and Woozi is the smallest, iirc, also among all the active male kpop idols. Mingyu said that often times during choreo he would crouch a little when he's at the center or front to even out the height. I don't know how Woozi blends in their formations but I think despite his height, his limbs are long (no actual measurements but they look long to me HAHAHA) so it looks levelled with the other members.

    I totally get what you mean about the mirror thing!! Actually people have made compilations of how certain members do tend to be put opposite each other during the choreography - particularly during choruses. The pairs I'm thinking of are Hoshi and Woozi, and Vernon and Jun. They don't match heights as much as energy? I think? Similar sort of use of energy in their dance styles I'm guessing!! Not a dancer so I can't really tell but those two pairs are often mirroring each other.

    Their energies when performing CLAP go so much higher, more intense, on concert stages. It's really a sight to behold. You can't help but go 'jjak jjak jjak' with them too.
    I almost got offended when you were saying like there's some weaknesses being filled up by their choreo hahaha. But it's fine, looks like we have yet to establish the fact they're all skilled dancers. That, as you've already mentioned here, the major setback they have is the diff on their anatomy...
    I'm both curious and excited as you go through their next songs. The list from this (TEEN,AGE) album has diff vibes - WITHOUT YOU (full group), LILILI YABBAY (perf unit) and FLOWER (mixed unit)

    • @jadev164
      @jadev164 3 года назад

      I think he meant it more as they have such good teamwork they fill each other's weaknesses (because no one is perfect). Obviously they're all skilled but some are better singers (DK, Seungkwan, Woozi etc..) while others are better dancers (Hoshi, Dino etc...), that's normal. Seventeen's particularity though, is that you don't notice that difference. Instead of your eyes immediately picking out the best dancer/most charismatic one, you see the whole picture and your eyes follow who the choreo wants you to follow.
      They have a synergy together that elevates everyone beyond their own individual skills, to give an even better performance than they would have alone.

    • @khazelming
      @khazelming 3 года назад

      @@jadev164 Yeah, maybe it's just how he worded it. I'm more on the positive construction, like instead of saying 'weakness being filled in', I'd acknowledge that they are all great dancers with diff styles but they level them off to keep the balance on group dance. Like there's no weakness, but yes, their skill levels aren't all the same.
      Sorry, I'm rumbling. Anyways, I said I just almost felt offended but I didn't, don't worry :) I actually meant it to be a bit of a joke but maybe I didn't really sound like that😅 I understand him and I always like hearing his opinions and views. I also saw how he's still yet to dive in with each member.
      Thank you for your reply as well.
