This is my second video ever watching these tournaments, really fun to watch. I grew up with Street Fighter II in the early 90's when I was a teenager, it was such a phenomenon in 1991 and I would go about every week to the arcades to play. I was never really great, and I got decent with the SNES version. What sucked was being pretty good on a controller, but going to the arcade stick kind of threw me off doing dragon punches. I quit playing after Turbo Edition, SF had kind of runs its course and was getting older. Anyway, really cool to see such talent these days and seeing them play with older characters in this tournament helps me relate a little more. So awesome those arcade sticks, too, that's what I needed back in the day at home.
To people asking why they use old style characters... It's not just a graphical thing. The old characters actually have slightly different move sets/ priority and frame differences, stronger damage hadoken , quicker dp etc etc.
Is there a technical reason why these pro players choose old school sprites? Visually they jar so badly against the HD backdrops. ...Also how do you get the SSF2 /SSF2 Turbo options at the character selection screen? Thanks.
And people bitching about SF4 being imbalance. Look at Ken VS Vega match when ken does throw+jump loop, might as well dropped the gamepad as you can never escape something like that.
They probably changed it back to original sprites so that there are no shifts in hitboxes and it's the same for everybody. Most of the people that have played this don't know the new HD sprites and their hitboxes as well as the old original ones.
The floor on Ryu stage is so horrible what were the artists thinking? The wooden slats are scaled way too bit, and there is no blending with the rear wall. Its shocking that the most famous stage in the game on a reboot of the game nearly 20 years on was subjected to this :( And do not get me started on the lack of flying midgies!
COMPLETELY agree with the Arcade Cabinet comments. I'm transitioning to "Lap Style" currently. The SFxT VS stick helps quite a bit... Looking forward to the Razer Atrox...
I really liked the championship hacked version the best. super slow fire balls that barely move across the screen , and throw 3 fire balls that are still in the screen. infinite Dragon punches that just keep you climbing the screen . do you guys ever play that version. it was my favorite...
awesome. asians losing is something that warms me heart in gaming . because ive always seen soo many of them so good. its nice to see that everyone is equal
I kind of agree with you, but it depends on the matchup. In that Sagat mirror fight, it was more of a poker match than anything else. Reading your opponent and predicting what they'll do.
Why aren't they playing the actual arcade version? That'd be a better championship. Or at least give them a bit bigger screen. What is that a nineteen inch screen? You'd think they could at least give em a 30 inch or something :/
There are bigger 1ms TN panels. PC monitors are probably faster than TV's though. But even a lot of them have speakers that can double as a TV which is what I do with my monitor. lol.
I've actually improved a little just from watching this video. I mean I suck, i'm a total noob at SSF"THDR, but I love it, it's my first SF game and one of the few fighting titles I play, and I want to improve.
The shouken on 1:36:26 wasn't even a hit... And the one at the ending at 1:36:42 was supposed to actually be a hit! ...It *HURTS* to see the best SF title like this!
It's not really sporting, but every fighting game has its own strategy. In MvC it's all about air juggling and wall-banging, where in this it's about hitting your opponent in the knees with a fireball when they're jumping. That's why I play fighters casually, with other casuals. :X I have a lot more fun.
The Sagat vs. Sagat match beginning at about 10:15 reaffirms my belief that fighting games need some sort of 'ammo' or 'mana' system for fireballs. Just look at that shit.
You're not recognizing the spacing or differences in timing between the fireballs. If you tried to just "spam" as many fireballs as possible you'd be demolished at this level of play. Most fireballs are responses to movement patterns or predictions. If they're mindless or follow too simple a pattern they're quite easily punishable by someone who knows what to look for (which these players do). Try not being so confrontational in youtube comments. It only detracts from your argument.
It's not empty at all, actually. Watch around 39:15. The first couple of rows are just cordoned off for some reason. There's still a nice crowd behind them.
+M Luminoth Capcom sponsorship. Alos I don't think Super Turbo was ported to any console available at the time aside from Super Turbo. So unless you wanna provide cabinets, controller support becomes a real hassle.
+M Luminoth Maybe I am a weirdo, but I honestly hate the art style in HD Remix. It just looks...I don't know...cheap to me, I guess. It makes it look like an old M.U.G.E.N. mod to me. But ehh, most people seem happy with it, so I guess it is just me.
I have not been caught up with professional gaming for a while or e-sports. Who is the current world champion of Street fighter? They should make the world champion play all the Street fighter games including the original Street Fighter 1 not just the popular Street Fighter 2 and up etc. They should list all the world champions for gaming for the fans so we know all the best players from around the world.
I don't. The pro players have it down to a science, I could probably look up all the 'optimum' combos and the frame delays for every character and such, but I wouldn't be having as much fun.

1:21:12 John Choi (Guile) v Afro Legends (Balrog)
1:29:12 Damdai (Ryu) v Afro Legends (Dee Jay)
The old sprites on the crispy new backgrounds look really bad. They should've just played HDRMX or play ST on a Supergun or something.
Probably because of the hitboxes. I love the new art but wish the players weren't so beefy.

There were some amazingly clutch plays and tight matchups. These guys earn their titles of being among the best in the biz. Thanks for the video!

Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix THE BEST
I really want to play SF2T again. I miss this a lot!
Do you know what a emulator is
Is there a technical reason why these pro players choose old school sprites? Visually they jar so badly against the HD backdrops. ...Also how do you get the SSF2 /SSF2 Turbo options at the character selection screen? Thanks.
You have to be in classic mode to have the SSF2/Turbo options
cruziero15
Ahhh, thanks.
cruziero15 That doesn't explain why they're using the old graphics, though.
To answer someone, in oder to play classic versions you have to play classic mode. Many don't like HDR chars
The HD sprites look ugly as piss, probably
Good fight between Tokido and Afro Legends. That was hype.
I just want to say that Tiger! because Tiger! and this match was kinda Tiger! because that second player was kinda Tiger!
Did you Tiger!?
+Muhan C.A. Tiger! for everybody
😂😂😂
I tigered!
Global tournament without Mao,Otochun,AniKen,Muteki,Yuuvega,Sasori,Gian,Tsuji
and Komoda.
Seriously, where are the Japanese players?
That dude Afro Legends does a excelent DeeJay
Yes I was very impressed I like deejay but dont see him much
that T HAWK play was crazy
Those Tiger shots were fast as lightining.
That Dee Jay player was amazing.
And people bitching about SF4 being imbalance. Look at Ken VS Vega match when ken does throw+jump loop, might as well dropped the gamepad as you can never escape something like that.
he can with either counter throw or reversal. Watch higher level Claws like MAO or Opemai for reference

What brand is the controller deck they are using?
Tigers at 10:15
it is the "HD Remix" balanced and resprited SSF2T and only avalaible for ps3 and xbox360
How are the graphics different? Looks good!

Great statement (at 0:52:06) ..."Sometimes with Ryu, the threat of the super (fireball combo) is greater than the super itself."
Is the skill ceiling that high in this game? How long does it take tot learn it?
great Tournament and good commentator thank
love how the background characters look better than the actual fighters
They're using the old character sprites.
I better buy this game looks great ;)
That was awesome!
I kind of agree with you, but it depends on the matchup. In that Sagat mirror fight, it was more of a poker match than anything else. Reading your opponent and predicting what they'll do.
what joystick are they using?
I really enjoy the way the graphics have all been improved.. Except for the character sprites themselves.
Thank you sir. That is all.
That was great. Makes me want to join a tournament. On the SNES though.
Hi do you want death for only 00.99 $

Please tell me why did some players don’t have the super bar?
Damn ryu looks good. I’m gonna start playing as him.
so they changed up the timing in this one so you can chain fireballs with a super quick recovery time?
do you have fireball troubles bro?
I like the capcom street fighter wallpaper behind the commentators.
Damdai was awesome Ryu for the win. John Choi also very good
The shouken on 1:36:26 wasn't even a hit... And the one at the ending at 1:36:42 was supposed to actually be a hit! ...It *HURTS* to see the best SF title like this!
Wow kenpachi just threw projectiles and dropped back lol he needs to learn to bait while keeping his ground as sagat.
No offense but I feel like people who complain about fireball spamming don't really understand the intricacies and skill of the zoning game.
So Afro player only plays with afro characters?
Why are there just hd background and no hd characters? I ve got the game but its different..
It's not really sporting, but every fighting game has its own strategy. In MvC it's all about air juggling and wall-banging, where in this it's about hitting your opponent in the knees with a fireball when they're jumping.
That's why I play fighters casually, with other casuals. :X I have a lot more fun.
How come no one jumps into their opponent with a late fierce?
Cuz they didn’t buy the vhs
For what system is this game?
why do they fight on ryu stage only?
Good question.
Great job to Damdai!
Thanks for this upload.

seems kind of odd that the room is empty except for the players. And supposedly this is a global tournament. What gives?
no one plays sf2 anymore. Only a small group of people. The tournament consist of more than one game.
It's not empty at all, actually. Watch around 39:15. The first couple of rows are just cordoned off for some reason. There's still a nice crowd behind them.
right yeah, I noticed it the second time around ^.^
Tokido young af. This was before Akuma and the murder face 🧒 lol
GOD! The number of ads
why are there only like five ppl in the audience?
if i did that tap throw tap throw all match back in the day at the arcade places i will get knocked tf out for doing cheaps.

Why do they keep calling it fireball? It's freaking Hadouken!

Before I go I must say that Laugh never looks like he enjoys himself at any events.
Kinda an ironic name choice if ya think about it
I agree he looks miserable all the time.
He looks like a serial killer. He probably killed a few hookers, after he lost to Murder Face.
hahah wouldnt doubt it.

I'm thinking about buying this does anyone know if its still popular?
How do you play as Akuma? Not allowed because he's secret character?

you can change the settings to have the original sprites
We use to play this in super ness!!
dude is been ages since i played this. im up for challenge. i can beat anyone anytime.
I like the new HD drawings but I think its lacking frames of animation, SNES version has more
This game will skip frames from time to time, so that's why you see less animation. All of the animations are still there.
Great commentary!
adamlar bu işi biliyor, 10 numara. Ryu tek geçerim :)
Was this an all asians tournament? Only 1 guy from Cali...
Nvm there were more players that didnt get anounced
This is just plain Super Turbo. You have the option of playing with HD Remix changes or the original game it was based on and for some reason they're using the original game instead of HD Remix.

Reminds me of the first time me and my friend played Tekken Tag 2
My eyes are going to the bg instead of the fighters because of the blurry sprites contrasting to the higher def bg
