That is a multi scale bass with fanned frets, the heavier (thicker) the string gauge the longer the scale (string length), this creates higher tension on the heavier gauges, which in turn gives a tighter sound, On the lighter gauges you get shorter scale but fuller sound. The frets are then fanned to match the scale length of each string to attain the correct pitch.
