I saw Damien with Alain Caron (one of the best bass player in the world) a few years ago in Saint-Eustache, Québec. They even filmed their performance and I have a video of it. I was at the front row, may be 25 feet away from Damien Schmitt. What an experience...
A few years ago this would have sounded just very random to me. But after watching reactions and hearing about the technique and terminology, I’m starting to hear all of the layers being played.

Y'all been schooled by Damien Schmidt and the cosmic combo of jazz fusion, funk, hip hop (and even a little metal drumming mixed in) genre of drumming. Some of the comments posted so far just don't get it, must be over their heads. Damien comes from the pedigree of Mahavishnu Orchestra, the Billy Cobham and Narada Michael Walden school of percussion. im really hoping you will react to Blind Guardians And then there will be silence one day, its a long one(almost 15 mins) . the song is based on The Iliad by Homer and on the Aeneid by Virgil, and narrates the final days of Troy, as foreseen by Cassandra, daughter of the king of the destroyed city who foresaw the event. the Drummer is Thomas Stauch, Nicknamed the Omen. known for his fast and technical drumming skill, especially on the Blind Guardian album A Night at the Opera, where he mixes the traditional intensity and speed of the band's older style, And then there was Silence was recorded for that album.
