- It isn’t all doom and gloom. Despite more frequent extreme weather events, and the UN warning we are ‘significantly off’ meeting the Paris Climate Agreement target, there are some glimmers of hope when it comes to climate change.
Sky News' Science Correspondent Thomas Moore takes a look at what progress we have made in recent years - and what we need to do next.

If the UK is creating more electricity with solar and wind, then why are we still getting ridiculous increases on our utlility bills ?
Because gas prices are up and the energy that wind and solar can’t always produce has to be made up for by burning gas.
Nowhere did they say those savings would passed down to the consumer.

Inflation is the main reason it has little to do with the newer technology
Because renewable energy is much more expensive than fossil fuels. It costs so much to manufacture and maintain a wind turbine, that the operator will not receive enough in return to cover the cost in the 15 year expected lifetime, so the Governments have to pay them compensation for energy that is not produced when there is no wind and for energy produced when it is not required by the consumer, during off peak periods.

Why doesn't she have a go at the Chinese? If she has, I haven't heard it. I'm sure they'd all take notice of her.
As much as I strongly dislike her because of her attitude or ignorance towards the working class, I still recognise she does genuinely care about the environment. If China had her over there to talk about the environment, I'm sure she'd go over there and give them a lecture. She's that -naive- brave.
But China don't want her. Here in the western nations we have good old capitalism and private media. The media likes her because she makes a lot of noise and noise = money to the media. Especially when that noise is about an important topic that effects everyone and it's coming from a little girl. It ticks all of the boxes that earns the media money and so they love her.
As for our governments, they don't like her either. She's proposing things that'll cost an absolute fortune for the government, that'll result in significantly less jobs for the lower-class and won't have any immediate visible effects to the population. In other words doing what she says is a clear an obvious route towards not getting re-elected. So governments would never actually do what she says and don't really like her. Fortunately for our governments, she's useful. She's a great political tool. Have her sit down with the PM/president for 30 mins, have a chat and then all of the climate activists will approve of that political party. They don't have to actually do anything, just say a few words, stress out how important the climate is, spend a tiny amount of cash here and there on saving the environment so that they can claim they're doing something and bam. Everyone's happy.
Can't blame this girl for being a political tool. She's just doing whatever she can to be heard about an issue she cares about. But she's never gonna go to China. They don't care about getting re-elected when politics are cut-throat and elections are rigged. They have no reason to use this girl even as a political tool.

They stopped talking about the ozone layer because that's not really the immediate problem here. The only reason they spoke about it initially was a political tool, because destruction of the ozone layer would result in complete extinction for not only the human race, but most animals too.
But the ozone layer would still take a long time to break down even after 2050, the real problem they are turning to now is increasing temperature and more specifically melting of the ice-caps, which can significantly raise sea level and cause human catastrophes.
It's just a shift of focus :)

In 2000 we were told by "climate scientists" that snow would no longer be seen in Britain. In the last twenty winters my snow shovel has had a lot of use and I've got it ready for the next one.
Never understood why some people want to deny all this stuff. I was told that some people fear change and deny things as a way of dealing with their fears. Must be a lot of scared people out there.
Well before that they said we were going to have an ice age. All I can see is polor icecaps melting which has happened before on this planet. I don't really care who is right and frankly I don't think they really know for sure but one thing I do know is that we are overpopulating the planet and polluting our air and water. Regardless of what it does or does not do to the climate, it is detrimental to our health.
In the West Country uk our autumn started in late august, leaves already turning brown! They sprayed the sky everyday!
Strange then that in my working days one could almost guarantee not being able to get to work,due to snow blocking our rural roads……..very little snow in past 15 yrs………but cuts to my Tory run County Council (£220m….£20m) in their main Govt. grant,means even a dusting causes chaos.

During the last climate change meeting certain things were agreed. Just how many were implemented? Just how many of the cop26 agreements will be implemented? Just how much will it cost the public as none of the rich will suffer.

Climate change doesn’t mean it gets hotter everywhere. The average is hotter. This can make some places colder though.
For example in the northern hemisphere the arctic jet stream is becoming more unstable due to the warming of the air above the summer sea ice- this means Europe/North America/Russia will become more prone to the extremes of temperature

If climate change is real? Why didn't the Greens support Brexit? Building plants in countries with cheap labour for profit increased exponentially the supply chains and HGV miles needed to ferry produce back to where it is needed, hence all the problems now. Before EU componants were mainly an electric fork lift ride away from assembly lines. Now shipping componants 1,200 miles for financial efficiency makes a carbon footprint increase from a postage stamp to a football field. Money, profit, globalisation= pollution!! Brexit first step to cleaning up for UK, Trump USA first following same principle, let the rest of the world follow.

The answer is actually rather simple.
If the government gives us free electricity, then we'll leave a significantly less carbon footprint.
Or perhaps if the government actually did their job properly and managed to stop being greedy and selfish, then we'd all have enough money to afford electric cars, solar panels, wind turbines and so on.
There are so many simple answers to this problem. But none are practical because the people in this world are dumb af. And we're just gonna have to accept the fact. Instead we have to rely on the intelligent people and the innovators to be able to develop things that make saving the environment easier or develop rockets to take us off this planet.

So they extrapolate the Earth warming, imagine the graph. Now what happens when we've all gone net zero and the curve begins to flatten. At which point they presumably extrapolate (like they did on the way up) that the Earth is now cooling. At what point do we all need to rush out a start using antique petrol cars again to stop the apocalyptic cooling?

We are 8,100 years past the peak of the current interglacial, so temperatures will decline towards the next ice age. If humans are contributing to warming, then it will hopefully delay it getting too cold to live in the Northern hemisphere. If the mean global temperature did rise by 3c, the thermohaline ocean currents would change and push us quickly into the next ice age. Global mean temperatures over the past 780,000 years, have never gone above 3c higher than now, before dropping into the next ice age.
