  • In this video, I get the bottom half the trailer prime painted. It was crunch time all week and the top half is getting painted by me with a Roll and Tip method.
Our guest painter Paul Williams will be laying down the Avocado mist with his spray gun Saturday May 8th! (Paul was on the restoration team of original 1966 Batmobile, working closely with George Barris.)

Your videos on the scamp have been the most helpful of all - thank you for doing this! One question, do you have a shop that would consider doing work on an old campster we have? We are local and it's mostly spider cracking that is our issue. TIA!

It really pleases me to see all the hard work and dedication you are putting into this beauty. Scamp has only made 1-500 of these things every year since 1971 (Including the one year-1979 they had to name them "Acorn's, due to a name dispute with another Rv company"). That may sound like a bunch, but if you do the math, these are not a "Dime a Dozen". Everyone of them should be cherished and preserved just like this. Keep it up Johnny!!!

Hi Chris, I didn’t know Scamp made no more than 500 in any given year. That’s less than 2 a day produced. You’re right, we need to save these little eggs. BTW I hope you heard the shout out I gave you and how you restored so many of these. 👍🏼 Thank you for your support!

Hi there, I’ve been watching all your super helpful videos for my boiler restoration. One question, is there any other option for priming besides a paint gun? Are there any fibreglass primers in rattle cans?

Hi Kirsty, the type of primer really depends on the finish coat (your paint color). If you are using a catalyzed paint then you would need a catalyzed primer which is what I used. I did use spray paint primer in an area and the paint started bubbling. If your rolling and tipping, the paint store should be able to tell you the best primers.

Hey Johnny, I’m working on a similar project, a Boler, and so far I have found your product recommendations to be great. Love the kitty hair filler! I’m wondering if you have a master list of the products that you’re using to do the body work and the painting? I would find something like that super helpful if that’s not too difficult to put together! Love your videos and have learned so much! Keep it up man!!!

Johnny , my door is sagging 3 or 4 inches at the bottom seams . I'm going to check and see if my hinges shifted at there mounting positions . The door shuts and latches easy though . It's like the door lost its shape at bottom only . I'm wondering if water had caused the damage from just sitting at the bottom for time .

Hi Troy, no the fiberglass will never lose its shape due to moisture. Many boats are fiberglass.. but your hinges may need adjusting.

Do you always need to use the kitty hair or can you just use the everclear coat putty?

Hi Leilani, it really depends on the extent of the repair. If very minor then no need to have any fiberglass added. If the repair area has holes all the way through, if more than 1/4”.. then some kitty hair (fiberglass reinforcement should be used) Thanks for stopping by! 👍🏼

@@westcoast_johnny thanks! Looking for more advice. My Boler’s previous owner added silicone to seal everything. I was told not to sand it off as it embeds it into the fiberglass making it more difficult to remove and failure of the paint to stick. Any recommendations? Some say use a silicone remover.
